Hi, guys i have a 400D and i wanna ask advice for a lens. I like to do close up photograph(Photography jewelry and Nature). I was looking at the EF 180mm f/3.5L Macro USM but the Closest Focusing Distance (ft) is 1.59ft compared to the EF 75-300mm f/4-5.6 IS USM with the Closest Focusing Distance (ft) 4.9ft so if i zoom all the way im guessing i would magnify the image more than the macro lens plus i like the IS in the lens. Underwater photography is nice to have IS.

Added Sigma 70-300mm F4-5.6 APO DG MACRO-Minimum Focusing Distance: 150cm / (95cm Macro mode)59.1 in. / (37.4 in. Macro mode) also thinking bout this but wanna ask sifu's for advice.

Yes, that's the best lens in the Canon range, L-lens somemore, good optics! thumbup.gif
Depending on the depth, the IS mechanism might go haywire due to pressure, if you're only doing snorkeling then okay.

Hmm didnt think about that. Ok thanks, probably no need IS than must control my buoyancy until like IS lo..hahaha

Than I'll get Canon EF 75-300mm F4.0-5.6 III USM or the Sigma

So you do underwater photography? My colleague told me that a DSLR dome casing can cost as much as RM30k. Pressure shall not be an issue since the max usually people dive is 100ft, and the cam shall be fine under the casing.
Usually people use wide angle under water due to the following:
1. You want to stay as close to the object as possible to avoid capturing particles in the water.
2. When you use flash, a long range will unlikely to be light up.

Well not really people always use wide angle..There are lot of macro divers too..
For lighting im getting an external strobe..

Decided to get a macro lens instead of a zoom lens because underwater more water between you and your subject is worse.

Some update on the professional models for those who is interested and those 'going pro' very soon ...
Here's the Canon EOS 1D Mark IIN brows.gif

user posted image

Some lowdown on the camera - Still featuring 8.2MP at 8.5fps, the EOS 1D Mark IIN has a buffer that sucks in 48 frame burst in JPEG and 22 frame burst in RAW. LCD monitor increased to 2.5" from the 2" of Mark II, dual CF and SD memory card slots provided for separate RAW and JPEG recording, good news to those who shoots either format or couldn't decide which one, haha! Imagine, the camera still whacks at least 8fps recording BOTH format ... gosh.

Here's the poison ... currently available at Rm10,000+ (not more than Rm11K) for a used unit. Reasons why I will consider this camera (which my current one do not have) and pay the extra buck :

- 8.2MP and DIGIC II
- 2.5" 230K Colour TFT screen with 10x Playback Zoom (I always kena marah when girls can see themselves up close) cry.gif
- USB 1.1 (mine has only IEEE 1394)
- Dual slot for SD and CF memory card (imagine 2x 4GB cards, yeeehaaaa!)
- Battery saving (The Mark IIN conserve enough for at least 800 images per charge, mine won't last more than 400)
- Lighter? Nahh...

Italics show my UTMOST priority in changing over from my current body, there's always that quest for shooting longer, shooting more and better quality images icon_rolleyes.gif

My shooting requirements would call for a camera that can shoot faster and perform better. Personally I would get a used EOS 1Ds (non-Mark II) and keep it at home for studio purposes tongue.gif

Can I know how much is the EF75-300 (or the newer 70-300 IS)?
I'm in the market for one and would like to know agak-agak how much it costs.

Also, the Sigma, how much ah? and is it also IS one ah? I'm leaning towards IS because of camera shake. Even with current Kit lens, camera shake quite prevalent in my shots. (actually, 3rd party lenses got IS one ah?)

Thanks

If not mistaken i asked in 1 Utame Fotokem, was either RM2+K or RM4+K for the same lens.

BTW, how much is a 70-300 w/ IS ah? (I know w/o IS ~RM1K only but would prefer IS)

What lens you want? Maybe I can BORROW one and RENT it to you? Any lens as long as it's a Canon, up to 300mm F2.8 Supertelephoto.
Hey, that would be Cool. I'm looking for a lens to complement my kit lens and thinking of a up to 300mm one prefer with IS and would really like to know how it performs before plonking money down it.

Can Ah?? I'm KL person
