QUOTE(frankzane @ Nov 23 2016, 03:28 PM) Thanks. I think this is what a lot of people mention as rubber band effect. Most CVT gearbox will have this effect due to it's design. Google it to understand. There's one more peculiar sound when we accelerate from an almost stop position. Like something is loose. This mainly happens when we accelerate for instance after T&G, or bumpers (car slow but not completely stop)...The SC said it could be sound produced from new CVT. Any ideas? https://practicalmotoring.com.au/car-advice...sion-explained/ "THE PROBLEM WITH CVT CVTs sometimes feel awful; like a rubber band is stretching, and many drivers think there’s something wrong with the car. " CVT are meant to be driven smooth and not for sudden high speed acceleration due to it is design to help maximize fuel economy. If you want sporty drive, you will need to use the paddle shifter to manually shift the "virtual" 6-speed auto but just destroying the point of having A CVT first.. |

Yes, I bought the WRX after test driving the Forester XT actually. But you can test drive in PJ HQ. Any idea which branch that offer a test drive? Been eyeing for one actually. Also, can you summarize pro and con so far you been owning one? Cons? Needs more power. 350 on wheel hp should be nice. Pros? I never get bored driving that car. |

QUOTE(frankzane @ Nov 23 2016, 02:28 PM) Thanks. Driving a CVT transmission is not the same as driving a normal auto transmission with gears. There's one more peculiar sound when we accelerate from an almost stop position. Like something is loose. This mainly happens when we accelerate for instance after T&G, or bumpers (car slow but not completely stop)...The SC said it could be sound produced from new CVT. Any ideas? On normal auto transmission with gears, you just stomp your foot on the accelerator and the gear changes up by itself. On the CVT, there are no "gears", if you stomp you foot on it, there is a rubber band effect whereby the RPM will be high for one or two second until it sorts itself out. In order to minimize this, you will have to control or "feather" the accelerator so that the CVT ratio would change more quickly and the rubber band effect is minimized. From my view, the method is like driving a manual gear box whereby on first gear, you gradually press the accelerator while releasing the clutch to increase speed but with the CVT, there is no clutch to release. This is how I drive my XV and I find it solves the problem of the rubber band effect. Just my two cents. This post has been edited by matow: Nov 24 2016, 02:16 PM |

I think it's because the ratio of both cvt wheels are at it's largest, that is why the you get the noise because it is spinning at a high speed.Unless the rubber band effect produces sounds as well? |

Very hard to explain the sound but it is like spoilt clutch of manual car. |

QUOTE(Cynox @ Nov 24 2016, 01:18 PM) wow..wow..wow.... so NICE!!!! din know the signature blue is so nice, it appears darker shade in these photos. Eyeing for the WRX and STI but a bit reluctant to switch back to sedan after driving the XV for almost 3 years. For your info, that not the signature World Rally Blue. I wife doesn't like the signature blue. This is Lapis Blue. A bit darker then the signature blue. |
