RGX4400
This thread is specially for all of you who have the {Innacomm,Innatech} RGX4400 WiFi router. It is one of two routers provided by TM to UniFi subscribers. For free! The other being the the D-Link DIR-850L.

Now, before you dump the router, in favour of a new TPLink, DLink, or Asus, just because it's a stock TM router - stock TM routers suck right? - take a step back, have a 2nd look, it's actually pretty awesome. You can't beat the price for sure.

Anyway this is here with info, tips & tricks, experiences (both good and bad), to answer a few FAQs and for users to help/confuse/annoy/flame each other. No holds barred, if you think your RGX4400 is better than my RGX4400, let it be known here!

By the way, googling doesn't work for this router. It has almost zero info about it. However there's decent documentation in the CD that came with it. Yeah, there's actually a CD but not all of us have CD drives. But hey, who reads manuals right?

Design wise, it's fantastic.

Alright, maybe not, it looks almost identical, in its silver plastic box, to the RG4332 or TRG212M. The latter 2 which you can literally throw away. No offence to the company who makes them: http://www.innacomm.com.my/

Issues with the RGX4400

FTP ALG
ALG doesn't seem to be working for FTP. Had to manually forward PASV ports for passive mode to work. Requires further testing.


Multiple SSID with Rate Control (/WLAN/Basic Setting/Multiple AP)
Untested but when you use multiple SSIDs, it seems that you can set maximum rates for each SSID. For example, you can set "GuestWiFi" to as low as 6mbps while your "OfficeWiFi" is at a higher rate. Must check this out later.
Does not seem to work or could not get it working.


Dynamic DNS
This is a big oversight. Only dyndns.org & TZO supported. Both of which are no longer free.



Tips & Tricks

Admin Password
Default admin password is nothing, blank, don't type anything. Highly recommended that you change it. Passwords can be changed in /Maintenance/Password.

Username: admin
Password:


Operator Password
Default operator login is below. It's a good idea to change it.

Username: operator
Password: Opr@XXXX

where XXXX is the last four characters of the Ethernet MAC address in capitals. You can find your MAC address on the labels.

MAC address is also available from the admin login.



UPNP (/Service/UPNP)
UPNP is disabled by default. You may want to enable it.


Custom DNS
Let's say we want to use 8.8.8.8 as our custom DNS. There're 2 ways to do it.

Method 1: /Service/DHCP


Method 2: /Service/DHCP & /Service/DNS Server



Port Forwarding (/Firewall/Port Forwarding)
Port Forwarding example:



Dynamic DNS (/Service/Dynamic DNS)
This is a big oversight. Only dyndns.org & TZO supported. Both of which are no longer free. So don't throw away your old DIR-615 or any DLink device. Use it to register a free dlinkddns.com address and use it here with dyndns.org.


Disable Unneeded WAN Connections (/Setup/Ethernet WAN)
You only need Connection_1 for your internet to work.

If you don't watch HyppTV, you can disable IPTV connection and save a bit of memory. You can also disable TR069 if you like. TR069 is used by TM to remotely manage your RGX4400. Scary.


IPv6 (/Setup/Ethernet WAN/Edit) & (/Setup/LAN/)
IPv6 is on by default. You may want to disable it to save a bit of memory. It doesn't hurt your internet speed. You can disable for both WAN and/or LAN.


Enabling Remote Services (/Advanced/Remote Access)
If necessary, you can enable remote access to various services such as FTP, SSH or Telnet. Please be sure to change passwords from defaults before doing this.


SNMP (/Advanced/SNMP & /Advanced/Remote Access)
If you need to use SNMP, you'll want to change the community name. By default it's set to some weird TM name. In addition to that you'll probably want to allow remote access to SNMP.

Is the RGX4400 any good?

All the tests below performed by me at a nearby coffee shop with the RGX4400 and UnifiBiz 100. No LAN tests since it's at a coffee shop.


GUI
Web GUI is very fast. Mainly because it's just a series of tables and text. It's also quite comprehensive.


Bittorrent Performance Test (WiFi)
Well seeded Centos torrents. Around 1000 connections.
MacBook Pro 13" 2011 on 5Ghz AC, UniFi Biz 100.




speedtest.net (WiFi)
MacBook Pro 15" 2010 on 5Ghz N


iPhone 6S on 5Ghz AC


2.4Ghz vs 5GHz on a busier day. Around 20 people present. Browsing is fine. Speedtests however shows the difference between 2.4 & 5GHz.


Stability
The longest uptime I've seen so far is 8 days. Currently monitoring remotely via SNMP. Sorry I rebooted it 3 hrs ago.


Still going strong after 3 days.

WiFi Performance

This is where you people come in. Let me know how well the RGX4400 wifi is working for you in terms of coverage and speed and I'll put it here.

I already have a few below which I'll post with more details later.

Coffee Shop, Ground Floor Corner Double Shoplot, 66' x 75'
Orange dot is RGX4400, 10 ft up and sitting on the roller shutter metal shroud.
Covers the entire shop and more on 5GHz. Probably due to the typical open layout of a coffee shop.



3-Level Intermediate Terrace House, 22' x 75'
RGX4400 is on a TV cabinet 1/4 into the house on level 2.
Covers the entire house on 2.4GHz. Worse reception is kitchen at the back of level 1.


2-storey Intermediate Terrace House

Do you think that this router trumps D-Link DIR-850L in terms of performance and stability?

I bet that they are both about the same but I haven't had a chance to use a DIR-850L so can't say for sure. It's hard to find any tech specs for the 850L. However Time gives the same router for 300mbps so performance should not be a problem. Hopefully someone using it can chime in with their experience.

Bro, do the lan ports of 4332 support gigabit or is it fast ethernet?

The 4332 is 100mbps Fast Ethernet for all the ethernet ports.

The RGX4400 should be gigabit though the manual states that they are 100mbps FE. I think the manual is wrong. I can't confirm this yet as the RGX4400 that I usually test with is at a coffee shop.

850L provide by TM is Ver B2, i think it has not much difference compare to A1.

Thanks calvin, I actually have both the RGX4400 and the 850L in my house but using neither of them. One of these days I'm going to do a comparison of both of them.

The 850L was given to my auntie when she upgrade from 20 to 100mbps. Since she was already using Mikrotik, I sapu the DLink.

As for the RGX4400, I bought it off a fellow forumer. It was only RM50 so why not. Maybe can use as a 5GHz AP later on.

Hey man I am a user of Rgx4400 of unifi 30mbps also,mostly use it for ps4,I will get nat3 from ps4 if upnp is not enabled.But whenever Upnp enabled,my ps4 internet connection test will show"the router will not support ip packet fragmentation,etc" usually like 1 time out of 10 test.Do you have any idea about this?

Do you know how to turn off DNS relay? on This modem? I still suffer that every 3 second ping spikes.

Bro, sorry, don't game, don't have a PS4 so no practical experience on this. Just to clarify:

#1 - If UPNP is off, you get NAT3 but no "router will not support ip packet fragmentation" status.
#2 - If UPNP is on, you get NAT2 (which is what you want) but occasionally you have "router will not support ip packet fragmentation" status

Is that right?

#1 - How keeping UPNP off and forwarding the whole bunch of required TCP and UDP ports to the PS4. Will that get you NAT2 on the PS4? And hopefully get rid of "router will not support ip packet fragmentation".

or

#2 - Stay on UPNP ( and NAT2 )and ignore the "router will not support ip packet fragmentation" status. Does this affect anything gameplay or anything on the PS4?

Having said all that, the IP fragmentation error should not have anything to do with UPNP. What's the MTU for PPPoE set on the router? It should be 1492. Maybe something on the router (firewall,QOS?) is dropping packets and the PS4 network test is interpreting that as "router will not support ip packet fragmentation".

Sorry can't help much.

Router lah not modem. Turn off DNS Relay in /Service/DHCP. But it shouldn't have any effect on ping test. But if it helps, let us know.

problem is that portforwarding and dmz got basically no effect on my ps4,forwarding a bunch a port required by ps4 also make me getting nat3.I think I will get a tplink router to try out the portforwarding and dmz to see it works or not.

So weird. I'm pretty sure port forwarding is working on the RGX4400. Currently forwarding 2121 to an FTP server and it works just fine. Double check protocols, TCP or UDP. I once tried to setup a Minecraft PE server and it just would not work. Then the next day realised it was supposed to be UDP instead of TCP.

The fact that UPNP is working also means that port forwarding is. Whether done manually or via UPNP, the port forward rules go into the same tables.

Can it handle around 12-15 wireless devices and all lan ports in use?

thanks bro for great post. just now tm staff change my router from dlink wbr2300 to rgx4400 due my dlink lan4 port faulty.
didnt know this router much better than dlink wbr2300.
anyway just talking with the staff, why they didnt change to dlink 850L, he said that router not good performance of the wifi. and he said this rgx4400 much better
