As the world's biggest and richest club, Manchester United reach a global fanbase.

Part of the attraction for fans around the world has been the football luminaries, such as George Best and Sir Bobby Charlton, who have graced the Old Trafford turf in a Manchester United shirt over the years.

Recently, Manchester United have continued to attract or develop some of the game's biggest names, with England stalwarts such as Paul Scholes and David Beckham having been regular fixtures in the Reds line-up.

The Manchester United team, past and present, reads like a who's who of world football.

It is only fitting that a great team should grace a great stadium. And with Old Trafford's recent development and the closure of Wembley, the ground is easily the largest in English football, holding in excess of 60,000 fans.

Despite this capacity, the demand to see United in action is so great that tickets are hard to come by.

But it isn't only Manchester United fans who flock to Old Trafford. The standard of the ground is such that it regularly hosts high-profile games, most notably, the Champions League Final and Great Britain rugby league games.

Rock fans have also made use of the Reds's facilities, watching a number of high-profile acts at the ground.

But it's football that will forever be synonymous with the Reds famous ground - and with good reason.

The last decade has seen Manchester United under the shrewd leadership of Sir Alex Ferguson maintain a virtual stranglehold on the Premiership crown.

Manchester United has won the league no fewer than 18 times in their history. They are also Cup Kings too, winning the FA cup 11 times, the league cup 4 times, as well as winning the European Super Cup, European Cup Winner's Cup, and 3 times being crowned European Cup champions.

Manchester United has long become a name associated with success both on and off the pitch.

As club profits continue to grow, Manchester United have become one of the richest sports clubs on the planet.

With supporters club branches on every continent, it's hard to go any where in the world and not see somebody wearing the famous red shirt of Manchester United.

QUOTE(zenix @ Nov 24 2009, 09:18 PM)
Hope Alien will sticky this info later.
Though written in 2006 so no Roy Keane yet.

Ex-United players that have moved on to become managers.

Written by Simon Stone (MARCH 22, 2006)

STEVE BRUCE (1987-1996): Took his first steps in management with Sheffield United in 1998, then swiftly moved on to Huddersfield, Wigan and Crystal Palace. Left Selhurst Park in acrimonious fashion after Birmingham targeted him as the replacement for Trevor Francis in 1991. Took Blues into the Premier League but after a heavy FA Cup defeat is struggling to keep his job.

MARTIN POWELL (1971-1983): Stylish and well-respected Scotland centre-half whose authoritative nature appeared to make him a natural for the management game. Lasted four months at Burnley.

SIR BOBBY CHARLTON (1956-1973): Arguably the finest English player of all time proved to be an unmitigated disaster as a manager. Claimed he was not given the resources to make a decent job of it at Preston but was never lured back into management following his departure after a single season.

STEVE COPPELL (1975-1983): After a knee injury cut his playing career short at just 28, Coppell turned his attention to management. Steered Crystal Palace into the FA Cup final and then third place in the old First Division - the Eagles' highest ever - the following season. It was the first of four stints in charge at Selhurst Park in a career which has seen him move to Manchester City (for only six games), Brentford and Brighton. Now at Reading and about to steer the Royals into the top flight for the first time.

PADDY CRERAND (1962-1971): A key figure in United's 1968 European Cup triumph, Crerand lasted five months at Northampton before getting the bullet and, like Charlton, never managed again.

MARK HUGHES (1983-86, 1988-95): Hughes was never tipped as a manager by Ferguson but has taken to the game with ease. Took Wales into the Euro 2004 play-offs. Took over at Blackburn shortly afterwards, steering Rovers away from danger in his first season. Currently in contention for a Champions League spot.

BRIAN KIDD (1967-1974): Another European Cup winner who proved to be a poor manager. Got itchy feet in 1998 after spending seven years as Sir Alex Ferguson's highly-rated assistant. Took command at Blackburn but dismissed six months later.

BRYAN ROBSON (1981-94): United's inspirational leader under Ron Atkinson and Ferguson. There are two schools of thought on his stint at Middlesbrough - he either spent lots and achieved little (relegation and two losing finals) or he laid the platform for the Teessiders to become an established Premiership outfit. Kept West Brom up in extraordinary fashion last year but back in trouble again this season.

GORDON STRACHAN (1984-89): Scotland international who won the FA Cup with United and the title of the pre-Premiership era with Leeds. Sacked after five years at when the Sky Blues lost top-flight status, then enjoyed success at Southampton - reaching the 2003 Cup final - before resigning to spend more time with his family. Now at Celtic, has recovered from a humiliating Champions League exit to Artmedia Bratislava, and, after winning his first trophy on Sunday in the CIS Insurance Cup, is set to clinch the Scottish Premier League.

NOBBY STILES (1960-71): Along with Charlton, one of only two Englishmen to have won the World Cup and European Cup, he replaced his former England and United team-mate at Preston, with limited success. After a brief stint in Vancouver, returned to England to take over as manager of West Brom. Sacked after five months, having gained just three wins.

Manchester United sign Zlatan Ibrahimović

Manchester United is delighted to announce the signing of Swedish international striker Zlatan Ibrahimović.

Ibrahimović, 34, made 180 appearances for Paris Saint-Germain, scoring 156 goals. He has won championships in four different leagues since beginning his professional career with Malmo in 1999. Zlatan represented his country 116 times, scoring 62 goals, before announcing his retirement from international football last month.

Zlatan Ibrahimović said:

"I am absolutely delighted to be joining Manchester United and am looking forward to playing in the Premier League. It goes without saying that I cannot wait to work with Jose Mourinho once again. He is a fantastic manager and I am ready for this new and exciting challenge. I have thoroughly enjoyed my career so far and have some great memories. I am now ready to create more special memories in England."

Jose Mourinho said:

"Zlatan needs no introduction. The statistics speak for themselves. Ibra is one of the best strikers in the world and a player who always gives 100 per cent. He has won the most important league championships in the world of football, now he has the opportunity to play in the best league in the world and I know he will grasp this opportunity and will work hard to help the team win titles. I am certain that his talent will delight fans at Old Trafford next season and that his experience will be invaluable in helping to develop the younger players in the squad."

Not a surprise last season the assist count is so low since we are always passing sideways and backwards.

Just as important as goals/assists, Zlatan brings is experience and mentality.

Since SAF retired, most of his title winning squad have left the club. Only guys remaining from his final season squad:

DDG, Smalling, Jones, Valencia, Carrick, Young, Rooney.

Not counting Januzaj for obvious reasons.

Mata and Blind have title winning experience, but both have question marks over their futures with the club/as starters.

Reasons we (JoMo) opt for Zlatan & Miki:

QUOTE
GOALS: INCREDIBLE IBRAHIMOVIC

Ibrahimovic and Mkhitaryan enjoyed magnificent campaigns in front of goal last season, scoring 73 between them in all competitions, with no United players coming close to bettering their individual tallies.

50 – ZLATAN IBRAHIMOVIC
23 – HENRIKH MKHITARYAN
17– Anthony Martial
15 – Wayne Rooney
10 – Juan Mata
8 – Marcus Rashford
7 – Memphis Depay
6 – Jesse Lingard
5 – Ander Herrera
4 – Marouane Fellaini

ASSISTS: MAGIC MKHITARYAN

While their goals will attract the attention, Ibrahimvoic and Mkhitaryan also look likely to provide United with a magnificent creative threat – they laid on a combined 44 goals for their PSG and Dortmund team-mates last season. Again, none of United's options came close.

26 – HENRIKH MKHITARYAN
18 – ZLATAN IBRAHIMOVIC
9 – Juan Mata
8 – Anthony Martial
6 – Wayne Rooney
6 – Ander Herrera
4 – Jesse Lingard
3 – Memphis Depay
2 – Marcus Rashford
1 – Marouane Fellaini

CHANCES CREATED: MKHITARYAN UNMATCHED

An assist can only be recorded if a team-mate is there to finish off your passes, but Mkhitaryan's stunning stats in the chances created category back up his inventive credentials, laying on an astonishing total of 136 opportunities , while Ibrahimovic again fares well.

136 – HENRIKH MKHITARYAN
95 – Juan Mata
69 – ZLATAN IBRAHIMOVIC
60 – Anthony Martial
57 – Wayne Rooney
35 – Ander Herrera
34 – Jesse Lingard
34 – Memphis Depay
22 – Marouane Fellaini
13 – Marcus Rashford

SHOT CONVERSION: RUTHLESS RASHFORD

Marcus Rashford was the only player to record a better shot conversion rate than Ibrahimovic, although the former Sweden star still scored with almost one in four of his efforts, with Mkhitaryan's record coming in at a credible one in five.

38.1 per cent – Marcus Rashford
24.3 per cent – ZLATAN IBRAHIMOVIC
23.6 per cent – Anthony Martial
19.3 per cent – HENRIKH MKHITARYAN
19.2 per cent – Wayne Rooney
17.9 per cent – Ander Herrera
17.5 per cent – Juan Mata
13.0 per cent – Jesse Lingard
10.3 per cent – Marouane Fellaini
9.0 per cent – Memphis Depay

MINUTES PLAYED: FIRST-RATE FITNESS

Only Anthony Martial and Juan Mata came close to the incoming duo when it came to time spent on the pitch last season, a boost as Mourinho attempts to put together a settled side in swift fashion.

4383 – HENRIKH MKHITARYAN
4144 – ZLATAN IBRAHIMOVIC
4128 – Anthony Martial
4084 – Juan Mata
3491 – Wayne Rooney
2881 – Jesse Lingard
2465 – Memphis Depay
2349 – Ander Herrera
2211 – Marouane Fellaini
1413 – Marcus Rashford

MINUTES PER GOAL INVOLVEMENT: ALL IN AN HOUR'S WORK FOR IBRA

Perhaps the fairest measure of attacking effectiveness is minutes per goal involvement. This category combines minutes on the pitch with goals and assists to ascertain how often a player contributes to a goal.

The records of Ibrahimovic and Mkhitaryan are far more impressive than that of any of United's players – highlighting the instant impact Mourinho hopes to gain from their arrivals.

Ibrahimovic contributed either a goal or assist once every 60.9 minutes over the course of the campaign, with Mkhitaryan also producing at least one per game.

60.9 minutes – ZLATAN IBRAHIMOVIC
89.4 minutes – HENRIKH MKHITARYAN
141.3 minutes – Marcus Rashford
165.1 minutes – Anthony Martial
166.2 minutes – Wayne Rooney
213.5 minutes – Ander Herrera
214.9 minutes – Juan Mata
246.5 minutes – Memphis Depay
288.1 minuets – Jesse Lingard
442.2 minutes – Marouane Fellaini

Not really. Remember Di Maria and Falcao. Even they not succeed here, they still world class players. It's a club that attract players and manager just a plus.

QUOTE
Manchester United have had an offer for Borussia Dortmund forward Henrikh Mkhitaryan accepted.

The Armenia captain, who cost the German club £23.5m in 2013, is out of contract next summer.

"Had we refused it, the player would be available for free in 2017," Dortmund chief executive Hans-Joachim Watzke told the club's official website.

Mkhitaryan, 27, is yet to have a medical at Old Trafford and personal terms are still to be agreed.

If a deal for the player - who will require a work permit - is completed, he will become United's third major signing of the summer after Ivory Coast defender Eric Bailly and former Sweden striker Zlatan Ibrahimovic.

QUOTE
RYAN GIGGS LEAVES MANCHESTER UNITED

Ryan Giggs is to leave Manchester United, the club he has been with since the age of 14, to pursue his desire to be a manager.

Giggs, 42, has played more times for the club than anyone else in history and is its most decorated player, having won every major honour in club football.

Ryan Giggs said: "After 29 seasons at Manchester United as a player and assistant manager, I know winning is in the DNA of this club - giving youth a chance, and playing attacking and exciting football. It’s healthy to have high expectations, it’s right to expect to win. Manchester United expects, deserves, nothing less.

"This is why it is a huge decision for me to step away from the club that has been my life since the age of 14. It has not been a decision that I have made lightly. I'll take away so many special memories as well as a lifetime of experiences that will, I hope, serve me well in the future.

"However, the time feels right and, although I have no immediate plans to step into management, it is where I want to be.

"I’ve been extremely fortunate in having two great managerial mentors; first in Sir Alex, who I’ve spent the majority of my life working with and learning from and who I believe will remain as football’s greatest-ever manager and in more recent times, Louis van Gaal, whose CV speaks for itself. The knowledge I have gleaned from them has been invaluable.

"I want to reiterate my thanks to the backroom staff and support teams at Manchester United I’ve worked with over the years. The results on the pitch are a reflection of the hard work off it. I would not have achieved the success I have without the dedication, sacrifice and commitment of these people in creating the best environment for the team to succeed.

"I want to congratulate José Mourinho on his appointment as manager of the world’s biggest club. There are only a handful of proven winners at the very highest level and José is unquestionably one of them. I know the fans will welcome him.

"My final thank you is to the fans. I cannot begin to tell you how much I will miss walking out at Old Trafford in front of you. It’s extremely difficult to say goodbye after 29 years. I have loved every minute both as a player and assistant manager. The support you have always shown me has been phenomenal; thank you.

"It’s time for a new chapter and a new challenge. I’m excited about the future - I’ve had the best apprenticeship into management anyone could ever ask for."

Executive vice-chairman, Ed Woodward said: "Ryan’s place in the history of Manchester United is assured. He has been a constant presence at the club since 1987 and, during his playing days, regularly delighted crowds; first with his dazzling wing play and later with his intelligence and ability to dictate a game.

"He has tackled his coaching and management responsibilities with similar rigour and diligence. The experiences and discipline he developed at United will undoubtedly be a big help as he continues to learn his trade. He has all the attributes to be a terrific manager in the future. Everyone at the club wishes him well in his new career. He will be missed but will always be welcome at Manchester United."

Pogba or someone along that ilk next please. Renato Sanchez looks gooding. Too bad we missed out.

Wouldn't mind another young talented winger that knows how to dribble and is not slow. Loan both Depay and Januzaj and see how things go mid/end of the season. Sell off Young. Could get quite a few millions given how rich EPL clubs are now.

Once Rooney got his goal record, offer him to the Chinese clubs. They can have Fellaini for free as well.

Dortmund troll Manchester United after Mkhitaryan's transfer

Borussia Dortmund just love a sly dig after selling one of their players - this time Manchester United felt the burn after completing the signing of Henrikh Mkhitaryan.

In a statement on their website, Dortmund used their opening paragraph to highlight United’s woeful campaign under Louis van Gaal.

It reads: “BVB has complied after intensive discussions the wish of the Armenian national team member, to the new season to join the English Table Fifth last season, Manchester United.

But that’s not all.

In the last line of their statement, Dortmund were keen to remind everyone that no Champions League football will be played at Old Trafford next season.

“Borussia Dortmund Henrikh Mkhitaryan wishes for the coming season in both the Premier League and in the UEFA Europa Leagueall the best,” read the closing paragraph.

Dortmund have a history of doing this. Having sold Ilkay Gundogan to Manchester City at the start of June, the German club delivered another jab to Pep Guardiola’s new team in their official statement with the following:

"The midfielder... will leave the eight-time German champions to join Manchester City, who finished fourth in the Premier League last season.”

Manchester United have been heavily linked with a move for young Pachuca forward Hirving Lozano over the past few months but you may not know that much about him.

The 20-year-old will join the Reds after the Olympics, according to his father-in-law, and Pachuca's vice-president has claimed the club is in talks to sign him.

Here’s everything you need to know about the young forward:

Name: Hirving Rodrigo Lozano Bahena, known as Hirving Lozano.

Nickname: Chucky

Birthplace: Mexico City, Mexico

Position: Forward (can play as a winger or striker)

Date of birth: 30 July 1995

Height: 1.77m

International honours: Capped seven times for Mexico, including four appearances in the 2016 Copa America.

Club career to date: 91 senior league appearances and 21 goals for Pachuca.

Bizarre fact: His Wiki page was hacked on July 3 to say that his current club is Manchester United.

How does he play? Regarded as one of Mexico's brightest talents, Lozano can play in a number of attacking positions. He is right-footed but is comfortable playing on the left and isn't scared to run at defenders. He is a skillful and powerful player and is known for exciting runs which often end in a goalscoring chance. He is intelligent and gets fans out of their seats.

It's for decoration purposes..

The badge introduced by Manchester City in 1997 had three stars to give it a "more continental feel".[78] The 3 stars do not represent titles or trophies. City brought in a new club badge in 2016 with no stars on it.

He said he likes one or two multi-functional players. I guess Blind falls into that category. Others I'm not so sure. I think those surplus (outside his preferred 23 players) who are not sold will be warming the bench or playing in the reserves.

Yeah, I'm happy to hear that he won't be playing Roo in midfield. He sucks as a midfielder. I guess Martial, Rooney and Mkhitaryan will be playing behind Zlatan. It's the DM and CM positions I'm worried about. Who will be his preferred combo? Carrick and Herrera? Schneiderlin and Tiger? Blind and Fellaini? biggrin.gif

Yeah, I know. I was just joking. Maybe convert Mata into a CM? He wears a No. 8 anyway. And sell Fellaini. thumbup.gif

So far...

Zlatan/Rashford/W.Keane

Martial/Memphis/Young ... Rooney/Mata/Perreira ... Mkhitaryan/Lingard/Januzaj

Carrick/Blind/Schneiderlin ... Herrera/Tiger/Fellaini

Shaw/Rojo/B-Jackson ... Bailly/McNair/Jones ... Smalling/Mensah ... Darmian/Valencia/Varela

De Gea/Romero

Did I miss anyone? Quite a big squad, need to sell some players to balance the cheque book...

Things like eva carneiro scandal, ditching kevin de bruyne for cheap and signing fatcow on loan puts a big quesion marks over him....

well, in his press conference, he did say that he's gonna be aggressive with the new team's playstyle, trying to outscore the opponents. hopefully that is the case because the past few years man utd has been very dreadful to watch. snorefest with very very little shots.

mou likes to park the bus, but at least when the team gets the ball they try to do fast counter attacking football.

As Mourinho said, the playing style depends on the players he has. A manager shouldn't have a particular style but must be able to adapt to the players he has. Chelsea 2004/2005 and his Madrid team were great attacking team, cz he have players to do that. But Chelsea 2014 was not so.

Playing style this season very much depends on our current players. Still need to buy players to be an attacking team

United sign Henrikh Mkhitaryan
July 06, 2016 |
Football News
Manchester United is delighted to announce that Henrikh Mkhitaryan has completed his transfer from Borussia Dortmund. Henrikh joins on a four-year contract with the option to extend for a further year.

Mkhitaryan, 27, made 140 appearances and scored 41 goals for Borussia Dortmund after joining them in 2013. Last season he scored 23 goals and registered an impressive 32 assists across all competitions. Henrikh was voted Bundesliga Player of the Season for 2015/16 in a poll of his fellow professionals, and he was named in the Team of the Season following votes by the players’ union in Germany, VDV.

The midfielder is Armenia’s all-time top scorer, with 19 goals in 59 appearances since his international debut in January 2007. Henrikh captains his national team and has received the Armenian Footballer of the Year award on five occasions.

Henrikh Mkhitaryan said: "I am very proud to join Manchester United, this move is a dream come true for me. I am excited to play for a club with such an illustrious history and hope to be part of it for a long time. I thank the trust the club and Jose Mourinho have put in me. Finally, I believe playing for such a great club honours my father’s memory, and the inspiration and drive he gave to me when I was young."

José Mourinho said: "Henrikh is a very talented footballer who has been in such prolific form for both his club and his country. He is a real team player with great skill, vision and also has a good eye for goal. I am delighted he has chosen to sign for United. I believe he will make an impact on the team very quickly as his style of play is suited to the Premier League. We are all looking forward to working with him."

according to Di Marzio (reporter for Sky in italy, trusted source), agreement between the player (pogba) n man utd has been met, with salary of 12mil euro per year n transfer fee of 120mil euro, n now it is up to juventus to whether or not to accept it. any potential transfer would most probably be made after euro though.

This tancredi palmeri dude seems legit. And if it's true 100 mil pounds seem too excessive .. A bit desperate imho.. I hope mourinho doesnt flop like LVG becoz i think financially we cant afford another year without CL to stay as a big club.

If the Pogba news is true, I believe shelling out that 120 mil euro will worth every penny. He's one of the world's top MF and is just 23 y.o. 3 years down the road, I guess his commercial value alone will repay that transfer fee already. Unless he or Mou flops really bad after a year, but let's hope not. thumbup.gif

Haha, when Juve heard United enter bid, straight away bump extra 50mil. We can afford it but doesn't mean we should pay it right? But Juve doesn't care.

Who else to target if not Pogba? Someone who is 23 y.o and as good as him?

What make u guys rate pogba that high? I know he a world class player but he not guarantee will be successful at United. What if he fail? With that amount of money, United should go for someone else.

because we r pretty much fcuked in midfield. i dont think we can even make it to top 4 with carrick/schneiderlin/rooney as our midfielders lol. it is pretty obvious mourinho is targeting a midfield enforcer as the final piece of his '4 main signings', which is why we r linked to matuidi as well.

United bought Angel at 60mil, sold at 45mil. Loss of 15mil. Whether he was a success or not at least United tried.

Even if Pogba fails, given he is 23, he still has 3-5 years to mature. In between that time if he is sold with a slight loss United would still have a good piece of asset.

I actually feel that Pogba going to Juventus was a blessing. They develop him in the first team to what he is today, and United is picking the fruit when he is about to bloom.

Still better than some clubs which keep their money in the bank as FD to appease their shareholders.

I do like Pogba, and ManUtd can spend 100million to get him, as I guess his commercial value, the returns later will be much greater too.

However, in term of football, my opinion, is it better to spend the money to buy 3 players, instead of gambling on only 1. We can probably buy Payet, Kante and Matic with this money. As Juventus is only offering 17million for Matic. We might be able to get some spare change somemore.

Anyway, by next week, we will be more sure of who we wil get. thumbsup.gif

IMO, quality is better than quantity. We have plenty of squad players, but we are lacking of quality starter in that MF position. I think that's why Mou wanna buy Pogba. He's one of the best in that position now. Let Kayu worry about the money. We fans enjoice that we get top class player even though we're just in Europa league this season. rclxms.gif

Quality also must be sensible in the market lor.. 120m should be paid for players like ronaldo or messi onli.. Pogba is young and one of the best but 120m is too fkin big a gamble. 80m is still ok i feel for him given the crazily inflated market now..

spending money is good, but over paying is never good. letting others treat us as a waterfish even worse.. got budget doesn't mean paying over the odds. At the end of the day, the fans will have to pay for it. Jersey price increase, official condom of united, official milk powder, official fish monger, stadium rename.. it's already bad enough now..

the only piece of the puzzle missing for mou is a top quality DM to link up play. If morgan can live up to it, we're good to go.

OR... we can give that money as "development payment", just like how Barca has been using many times before. First Pique, then Fabregas, in the near future may Bellerin. So, we are paying Juve because they allow him to develop, much more than anticipated. tongue.gif

In future clubs will treat MU as waterfish, any player markup 30-50% of price. Not a good message to send.
A rich guy with strong financial backup also wil go lingkup if they keep overpay for stuffs.

I know, right? Ridiculous amount of money, for a potentially worldie player. Not even at his peak yet, but seeing that United had seen him first hand in his teens, and of course what his abilities' level at the moment, I guess they see that number as very much worth it. I still don't think he is able to dictate plays, like Scholes, Xavi, Modric or even Kroos though. Maybe in midfield 3 he can excel, if partnered with someone like Schneiderlin and Herrera perhaps who could do the defensive and support work for him.

Pretty sure the future is now, and will stay that way as long as Kayu is "the negotiator". One reason why I was hoping we would get a DoF after last season : /

EPL clubs this season are bidding like mad, result of that huge TV deal.

On Pogba, the money is truly eye-watering.... but if we can afford it and JM wants the player, it's not the worst thing to happen.

At least he is a known talent and is very young, so he still has huge upside.

He has quality to shine, and he will be the "statement signing" Kayu has been trying to grab every season with all his failed fishing for Bale, CR, Neymar, Messi, etc.

Maybe after this Kayu will calm down a bit and stop flinging money around like the club wallet is on fire.

Also, Pogba is the sort of player that will have Real Madrid sniffing around when Perez is bored and wants to get a new toy... so even if we pay stupid money for Pogba, Perez might 1-up Kayu with an even bigger offer now or in a few years time.

I believe this not a first time United splash big money to lure a player. We tried on bale, neymar before. If this pogba saga is true, we really splash big money on him, hope he will success under mou.

80m or 100m or 120m doesn't matter.

Willing buyer willing seller. The club has funds, just let them sign whatever they wish to. If mou feels paying 100m for Pogba is worth it, then let him justify his huge price tag.

Let's not forget that ever club tends to impose a 'United Tax' on every player that we've tried to sign.

List goes on for Fellaini, Shaw, Falcao (loan fee), Di Maria, Schneiderlin etc

Silly money, but Mou is the boss. I am more than willing to accept Pogba with open arms. We are missing player of his caliber for the longest time.

This tancredi palmeri dude seems legit. And if it's true 100 mil pounds seem too excessive .. A bit desperate imho.. I hope mourinho doesnt flop like LVG becoz i think financially we cant afford another year without CL to stay as a big club.
*
Watch us fly this season with Shaw and Martial on the left, Mkhitaryan on the right. I just worry about the backups on the wing. Depay, Young, Mata, Januzaj just don't scare defenders based on their recent form(past year or so).

I say bring on Pogba. We have enough players to control the play, but lack someone that can make things happen. Pogba brings that although he can be quiet for most games before sparking to life with a little bit of magic.

QUOTE(G_KeN @ Jul 7 2016, 02:34 PM)
because we r pretty much fcuked in midfield. i dont think we can even make it to top 4 with carrick/schneiderlin/rooney as our midfielders lol. it is pretty obvious mourinho is targeting a midfield enforcer as the final piece of his '4 main signings', which is why we r linked to matuidi as well.
*
It was our attack that failed us last season. Never really got the wings right since they went shit in SAF's last season.

QUOTE(yktan7 @ Jul 7 2016, 02:57 PM)
I do like Pogba, and ManUtd can spend 100million to get him, as I guess his commercial value, the returns later will be much greater too.

However, in term of football, my opinion, is it better to spend the money to buy 3 players, instead of gambling on only 1. We can probably buy Payet, Kante and Matic with this money. As Juventus is only offering 17million for Matic. We might be able to get some spare change somemore.

Anyway, by next week, we will be more sure of who we wil get.
*
We could spend that much on one player and still be able to afford a couple more lesser priced players if need be. And that's without selling off a couple of deadwoods.

Why buy a couple of pieces if we just need that one piece to complete the puzzle? Going by Mou's 4 signings quote, it seems he identified the problem areas. CB, CM, RW, ST. Got 3 already. Just the one CM left.

DDG
Darmian/Valencia-Smalling-Bailly-Shaw
CM-Pogba(if we get him)
Mkhi-Rooney-Martial
Zlatan

Question mark over RB and Rooney's spot, but it seems that's how we'll lined up for the first few months at least. Drop Rooney for another CM if the going gets tough.

Carrick, Schweinsteiger, Schneiderlin, Herrera, Blind for the one CM position. Plenty enough options there.

100m for pogba? Seriously? It was just a crazy pricetag by Juve to tell off Madrid to back off and we're falling for it? Seriously? If a midfield specialist's role is to linger around the center of the pitch & pass the ball side, side, side and back, might as well get the other ex united player, tom cleverly. Cant see what he can't do that pogba could...lel.

U may say its the unexpected magic he could do, but how often does that occurs? Once in 10 matches? Pfft, seriously overated player & i couldnt understand the hoo haa abt him, and with 100m price tag....crazy.

Sell Depay £20m
Sell Januzaj £10m
Sell Schneiderlin £15m

Total £60m

Buy Pogba £100m - £60m = £40m (bargain!) tongue.gif

Oh, of coz...

Bailly £30m (WTF?)
Mkhitaryan £26m

Nett spend £96m (will still be lower than what City could spend) whistling.gif

Running with the ball and occasional long shots goals is his trademark. plus he is big, strong and tall.
Like a prime paul scholes I would take at 100mln without second thought.
One magic in 10 games sometimes can earn 3 pts instead of 1 pts. Entire season might be worth 5-10 pts. Thats might be difference between 1st spot and 3rd.

well, club have less power these days. For example, DDG case. We are lucky because of Euro 2016, DDG extended his contract. If not, he would probably just wait till the contract expired.

Manchester United are interested in signing Paul Pogba but there is no deal imminent for the France midfielder.

Speculation has been rife about a world record £100m transfer from Juventus, but BBC Sport has been told no moves have yet been made.

United have not had any discussions with Juventus.

Furthermore Pogba, 23, is on Euro 2016 duty with France and does not want anything to distract his preparations for Sunday's final against Portugal.

Juventus have refused to comment on the speculation around the player, whose contract runs to 2019.

The Italian champions have not given up hope of persuading Pogba, who has won four Serie A titles with the Turin club, to sign an extension.

It has been claimed that Champions League winners Real Madrid are his preferred destination.

Pogba spent three years at Manchester United, but made just seven appearances before moving to Italy in 2012.

At the time, manager Sir Alex Ferguson's relationship with the player's agent - Mino Raiola - had broken down.

But the Italian has already helped broker the moves of Zlatan Ibrahimovic and midfielder Henrikh Mkhitaryan to United this summer.

QUOTE
Tyler Blackett and Guillermo Varela are set to be sold by Manchester United after Jose Mourinho deemed them surplus to requirements at Old Trafford, according to Sky sources.

Neither Blackett, a central defender, nor Varela, a full-back, are currently training with the United first-team squad, having been told they will play no part in Mourinho's plans for the future.

However, Mourinho remains keen to promote young players from the club's academy and has identified central defender Axel Tuanzebe and full-back Timothy Fosu-Mensah as stronger options to be involved in the first team.

Both will be given opportunities this season, with Mourinho confident they possess much greater potential for development.

Fosu-Mensah broke through to the first-team ranks last season, making 10 appearances for the senior side and featuring in wins against Arsenal, Manchester City and Everton, amongst others.

He can operate across the back four, as well as a defensive midfielder. It is believed Mourinho intends to focus on his development as a right-back if he is to replace Varela within the ranks of talented youngsters at the club.

Tuanzebe was born in the Democratic Republic of Congo, but grew up in Rochdale. He has been identified by United coaches as a leader, having captained the U18 team as a first-year scholar.

He has also been a key player for United's U21 team, although is yet to make his full first-team debut - that opportunity could come under Mourinho's stewardship this season.

It was as though it was written in the stars that pogba would be the best in the world and would be valued above 120m. In that case, it was stupid for SAF to release him.

SAF didn't learn astronomy, so can't blame him that much..

It was as though it was written in the stars that pogba would be the best in the world and would be valued above 120m. In that case, it was stupid for SAF to release him.

SAF didn't learn astronomy, so can't blame him that much..

You're right, without SAF I probably wouldn't have been a United supporter

Definitely not worth 100m. Not even in his performances for juventus. Good player but a little bit overrated . If he is worth RM 100m then roy keane or scholesy is worth 200m in today's market.

I dun see why we need pogba badly. He's a CM, but looks more like a DM. He's good but no CM worth 100Mil. At least not now. With 100Mil, get modric and kante and you still have some money in the bank

You don't know, Evil Kagawa... this thread is actually the secret Glazer United Forum for MUST.

If a referendum passes in here, anyone can be sacked/sold! ANYONE!

You think it's an accident that after 3 years of dubious transfers, Kayu is suddenly delivering Zlatan, Henrikh, and Bailly before August as per JM wishlist while linking us to Pogba even when we are not qualified for the CL?

He knows the danger in this tered is realz brows.gif

portugal / leicester win shows you don't need superstars to win things. you only need stars and good strategy/teamwork.

really happy for ronaldo. long time didnt see him so happy.

pogba looks so mediocre in the final. rather have ronaldo for 100M. but 100M not my money, so who cares of splashing. need pay astro though sad.gif

Wonder if anyone saw the match. Yes pogba flopped but I would think it's also deschamp fault for asking Pogba to stick to a defensive role and just sit behind.

He rarely left the centre circle. Just stick around there. Sissoko was the one given the freedom to roam.

pogba was stuck as a DM so his attacking side diminished, this is true, but his touches and ball holding was a let down overall. Value maybe 50m can do, but 120m? A big price tag will put more pressure on players and this in turn might cause their performance to drop. A big price tag is not their fault, but it will be on the back of their minds.

Right now, most important is for mou mou to evaluate our current crop of players and sell those he deemed surplus. Only then we should splash big cash on players to fill the gap.

Sisoko was good last night, took the initiatives with tackles and pushed, matuidi was also not that bad. Griezmann and payet seemed burned out.

very disappointing from deschamp. i thought he was the risk-taker, attacking kind of coach. but he decide to hold Pogba at DM, backfired kawkaw.

Pogba didnt produce any treat, just a few good cross field balls, alot other attempts missed.

Exactly. I read an article online. After Ronaldo got sub for injury and after the first half, Deschamp should have went for broke. Sub Matuidi off for Kante to do the sweeper role then let Pogba loose to join the offense.

Definately not good final at all for pogba.. but his overall performance at euro also not tht impressive. Not very influential as expected. Mixed performance from him..hot and cold. No way worth 100mil.. half of tht more likely.

Even for juventus(only watch him couple of times) he can be quite inconsistent. But no doubt he capable to deliver for them.. at 23 he probably still not reaching his full potential and need to develop his game more. Unless united to play him at more offensive role dont think we should pursue him.. he doesnt look like the type can dictate the midfield and control game. Looking at united current squad.. i think we got excess of attacking player. Signing a true CM or DM probably far more important

We paid 60-70m for martial (after all those appearance fee, etc), paying pogba for 100m is not impossible. biggrin.gif. Martial turns out to be good buy though judging from his first season.

Martial has alot of clauses Inc winning the league and champions league, also the appearance in those competitions. Juve is reported to want at least 80m upfront.

You're right on all those points, but on the flip side:

JM and his team have a pretty good record in terms of managing to minimize player injuries. Not sure if it's how they train, fitness analytics, or style of play... but if anyone can get Jones out of his injury issues, it should be him.

Bailly is relatively new, but he's been strong in for his club in La Liga and country as well. His style of play also seems promising for the EPL.

JM is also a known defensive specialist. If anyone can get good performances from Smalling, Rojo, and the defense... it will be him.

Schweinsteiger, Blind & Mata is up for sale.

Do we need Pogba? Let me ask you guys WHY we don't need Pogba. Have you even seen how he played in Serie A? Granted, the playing style in Italy is different AND the way Deschamps played him during the Euros was also different. £100 million too much?

If we can fetch minimum £50m from the sale of above 3, will that then be justifiable?

The only thing you guys have about your reservation on Pogba is your ego. You guys are sore that we let him go for free. Swallow the ego & welcome him back. He's worth it. Who else would you guys rather have? James Rodriquez? Latino players rarely work for Utd. Sissoko? Lol.

It's not about the ego. It's about the asking price. 100-120mil? That's too much really. I welcome him but not at that price.

No matter how good a midfielder are, 100-120mil is really too much. That's the kind of money you paid for people who actually beat the defenders and score the goals like Ronaldo. 40/50 goals a season. Even Gareth Bale can't justified his price tag compared to Ronaldo

If a midfielder worth 100-120mil, he better be scoring 30 goals and another 30 assist from the midfield.

If we're looking for a midfield engine i think Payet & Matuidi would be the kind of players we can look for if pogba becomes too expensive.

The only similar player we have which is of quality we need is bastian but i don't think he can do it anymore at this age especially for a full season.

no one is doubting whether united can afford pogba. united can buy him many times over. Does his performances justify his 100m value, attacking wise he is good, defending wise, just like a normal player. Stats wise, good enough for premier league, but not world class. mkhitaryan has similar to better all round stats than pogba in a tougher and higher ranked league.

clubs give crazy valuation because they don't want to sell. dortmund did not want to sell, united had to double their offer to buy micki, twice his valuation even though he was in his last year of contract.

neymar's release is 250m, ronaldo 1b, messi 250m

better value is koke 40m, bale 75m. guaranteed goal scorers are worth more than cm/dm/cb/gk anyday.

koke for 40mil only? that is assuming he would leave atletico, who have been very strong in la liga and the CL in recent seasons. if memory serves he's also a fan of the club that came up through the youth ranks.

bale 75mil? why would perez sell him for a loss when he is the 2nd most shiny toy they have behind CR?

what's more interesting is the profile of player we are looking at.

we just signed Mkhitaryan, and have a bunch of other players who also play in attacking midfield positions (Mata, Herrera, Rooney, Depay, Young, Fellaini). Even if we sell 3 out of 6, we still have 4 guys who can play in AM positions.

if pogba plays best in an attacking role, that helps us with our attack... but also means the DM position is between Basti (who had an injury plagued season and is rumoured to be on his way out), Carrick (injury concerns at the tail end of his career), and Schneiderlin.

Surprised we aren't going for Kante or Matic.

All depends now on the formation of the managers liking. Pogba is a CM, not AM. Basti past his prime and have to see how mou will treat Morgan. Carrick seems mighty confident that he'll feature under mou.

Just found out that bales new release clause is now 500m after he signed a new one last year. But koke might come if we offer him 200k per week, justifiable for his performances.

Juve wants 80m upfront, agent gets 20%. Kena con by agent, ask Zlatan to join so that can force United to pay 100m..

Nani performs martial arts at Valencia unveiling after move from Fenerbahce

You may have missed it amid the furore, but Nani managed to earn himself a nice little mid-tournament transfer to Valencia during Portugal's run to Euro 2016 glory.

After giving him a few days to revel in his success, the Spanish club were finally able to officially unveil their new signing at the Mestalla on Thursday -- and the ceremony was a cut above your average "stand, wave, do a few kick-ups" affair.

In fact, Nani decided to put on full demonstration of his martial arts prowess, performing an impressive capoeira routine for the fans gathered inside the stadium to enjoy.Somewhere out there, Manchester United new boy Zlatan Ibrahimovic is (possibly literally) kicking himself for not thinking of that.

Boss!

Good to see Shaw coming back into the team again. Let see if he can continue the left flank partnership with Depay which at the early stage of last season was looking promising.

Wigan's XI:

Latics: Jaaskelainen, R.Taylor (Trialist), Perkins, Daniels, Power, Grigg, Huws, Burn, Jacobs, Morgan (Capt), Warnock

Subs: Nicholls, Davies, Cosgrove, Whitehead, Powell, Gregory, Burke, Barrigan, Lang, O'Brien

MOURINHO ON MUTV
Here's more from Jose's MUTV interview: "I want the players to play. I want them to train, not against their mates, but against real opposition. So I will play with 11 players in the first half and at half-time I'll make seven changes. I won’t do 11 because I want to keep the other three or four for some more of the game, but I am going to play the 22 players."

Nice half, but no penetration as expected as all big guns still away.. Winning balls higher up the field, which is always good. First butt smack by mou on TFM. Shaw is back, not sure his commitment on hard tackles yet..

Take preseason results with a pinch of salt. Our preseason has been fantastic for the past few seasons.

Just a preseason game, against a Championship side that are also using it as a training exercise.

Main things:
1) No injuries, players get a chance to run out and improve fitness
2) JM gets to look at the squad and how they handle instructions

purpose of pre-season is to establish match sharpness as well as allowing mou to establish squad chemistry. it's a good one since bailly and mkhithryan seemed to have gelled well into the team. smile.gif

How the heck did we miss out on Kante if he's willing to forgo UCL football with no European football at all?? How??? And he was available for just £32m!! Surely we needed him more looking at our current lineups of DM?

we have 3 players available in that position.

The 2 Sch and Carrick. If you add Blind there, we have 4.

We cant be buying more and let them rot in the bench, right...

Actually 5 if you include Bastian. Look, yeah there's a glut in that position but Carrick & Bastian are not gonna be regular in the side, let's be honest. Schneiderlin had a nightmarish season in a position he should be thriving under LVG's system (or philosophy). If JM go ahead & buy Matic from Chelsea, how daft would that be knowing Kante was available?

He stands in the DM position when the whistle blows, but look at the games played last season, he spends more time on top then shielding our defenders.

He should act like Pirlo or Scholes, playing deep lying playmaker role

QUOTE
Manchester United fans convinced picture proves Jose Mourinho is already planning for life with Paul Pogba

Many Manchester United supporters are convinced that a picture of Jose Mourinho, taken by his wife Matilde, proves that he is already planning for life with Paul Pogba.

At the time, Matilde Mourinho would have thought she was taking a lovely snap of her hubby in his new Red Devils blazer – but it’s what’s in the background which has sent fans into meltdown.

The photograph in question inadvertently reveals some of the Special One’s tactics on a whiteboard at United’s training complex in Carrington.

On the edge of the semi-circle, it very clearly says [Marouane] ‘Fellaini’ underneath a name which a large section of United fans have interpreted as ‘Pogba’.

However, others are claiming it says [Juan] Mata – rather than Pogba – who is being linked with a £100milllion switch from Juventus to Old Trafford.

No disrespect to Matilde but she certainly will not be winning any photography awards any time soon which means the image is rather blurry, leading to the confusion surrounding the words on the board.

Interestingly, it also shows Wayne Rooney behind Zlatan Ibrahimovic and not in the midfield role which would suggest Mourinho definitely sees the United captain further forward, as he stressed in his first press conference at the club.
