Could have gone crazy and ask for the likes of Bonucci/Hazard/Lewa that would cost more but he went for them instead. And we were very much interested in that Renato kid. Who knows whether he was our first option for the CM position or whether he was just a talent that we can't pass up upon. My money is on the latter.

SAF bought many expensive players. Keane cost quite a lot back then. Stam and then Rio were the most expensive defenders in their time..British record for any player wrt to Rio I think for a while. Buffon went for 53m eur back in 2001. Just imagine what he would cost in todays market. Heck Newcastle are about to get 60m gbp for 2 of their players. They got relegated last season.

I think what some of us here (including myself) meant is that at this point of time, is he (Pogba) worth this huge price tag? For me and some of us here, the answer is definitely no. Yes, he has room for further development and he could easily develop into a world beaters and cost even more but my point is, at the moment he is not worth this price tag.

Whether the club itself is rich enough to spend such sum of money is irrelevant. Just because we can afford it, doesn't mean we must/have to do it.

Right now, the clubs debt is still very very high and there are so many new developments that are coming up in the new stadium, refurbishment of OT, youth development and an untold number of investments. The owners can exit anytime and leave United in debt and have to fork out huge wages for players and also their families. At the end, the fans will suffer.

We had another big marquee signing in depay. Top player, but not performing at the moment for United, but the transfer was alot smaller than what is floating around for pogba. Martials transfer number were exaggerated since most of his fee was performance based.
