QUOTE(Sham903n @ Aug 11 2016, 09:24 AM) Im sure PADi who is "more pro" than all of us combine knows better if AOW required more dives experience before it can be taken up, they would have done so.. more 'pro' with intention to make money for themselves and their affliates! how many actually did the swimming test for OW? |

The swimming test are set for purpose. But there still lots of ppl doesn't care about the purpose of this test in behind. What in their mind is just want to be certified OW n enjoy. Safety come second....... not wrong in that but instructor must put safety before profit, and ensure that OW wanna-be is comfortable in water and not panic suddenly. The swimming test is there to actually show that the person is comfortable in water. if not, you keep thinking that you will sink and drown, how to concentrate on learning the skills? |

I was about to reply later but you beat me to it. HahaWhile it is true the course does not restrict direct enrolment to AOW right after OW, remember that it is the instructors that certify you, and the instructor's definition of a competent/safe diver may not always be in line with PADI's expectations. I prefer taking my own safety by my own hands. This post has been edited by demetrius: Aug 11 2016, 04:27 PM |

IMHO, AOW is a fun dive course that does not require much dive experience. The course may actually build beginner diver's confidence and interest in diving by opening more oppurtunity(dive sites) to them.
It has almost 0% of failure as there are not much skills evaluation and there is no exam. Students just need to experience the dives to pass the course. I would highly recommend peak performance bouyancy as instructor will fine tune student's trim in water. Wreck and night dives will also qualify u to be competent to dive more sites. Do not get dittered by the word "Advance" as its just a marketing tool. If you have fun during ur OWC, you are ready for AOW. This post has been edited by N0eL: Aug 11 2016, 05:57 PM |

If anyone ask me, first hand experience OW straight continue AOW, go ahead.. if you comfortable with water as me (I'm a state swimmer and a life guard qualifier during my school days).
On my 1st day AOW, I done Night Dive, Underwater Navigation (in the dark) and Deep Dive, Peak Performance Buoyancy the next day.. I had a great DM with 9 years experience with more than 6000 dive experience. Final note... OW+AOW.. do it! |

Maybe I don't have good seminar. 8days continuing diving for beginner is a bit.... U know... Actually ppl like me no exercise. Haha. Better take a rest before the next course to stay focus. For me. |

~phew... just back from Maldives...
very tired trips... many washing machine currents, many vortex, many fly off zone etc... Visibility like crazily blur due to over-blooming of plankton. Manta? every dives... spotted more than 100+ their size is gigantic! Some size some of the local there also didnt see these before. Dolphin, Guitar Sharks, Whale Sharks, common sighting of many rays etc... Able to bring in pointer and glove. (Usually its forbidden) But due to the currents, it is require at least a reef hook or a pointer. Most relaxing dive is the "Flying off" dive. Neg entry, swim in as fast as u can n hook on a coral/stone, and FLY~ Fly while enjoying the passing through of the pelagic... Really a wild wow! Ascension is quite scary as u unplug the hook, u literally swept off by the currents, pushing u into the deep blue and find a break point to get off and do safety stops. No pain, No gain! Its rewarding as manta flying off you... literally can be able to slapped your shoulder and swim off... Since it was relaxing, generally all the dive quite challenging and every dive is DEEP Dive and DECO Dive... Too Bad no nitrox... Or else, can go wild wild style... And diving in Maldives ain't cheap. I got it for about USD52/boat dive in the Biosphere Reserve, Hanifaru Bay, Maldives. This post has been edited by ukiya: Aug 12 2016, 03:05 PM |
