Yay,

Choice of  a rock and a hard place liao.... hehehe

Aiya Bro Tim tw700 isnt so bad, maybe not as bright as ur old  ax100 but it hass less problems(reviewed ... anyway) and a 2yr warranty...
Just for de sake of asking ; how far is ur mount to ur screen, will de epson be able to put our a decent image for ur current screen? Or must you mod everything ?

Cheers
Dirtrun

Dirtrun, I wouldn't have quite put it the way you have... all things considered, the TW700 is fractionally better than the AX100. On the lumen front, an Aussie reviewer managed to extract 2300++ lumens from the Epson TW700 blink.gif , and the AX100 only managed a max of 2000++. As for the SDE a simple defocussing will bring the TW700 on par with the AX100.

Ceiling mount sure must change/adjust, coz the mounting holes are different. But the TW700 is just slightly more flexible than the AX100 in placement so it should fit right into the AX100's former location.

It is not my intention to rub salt nor any other condiments into Bro Tims wounds nor any other type of abrasion/lesions!!

Tim, dun sound like choosing the Epson is a bad thing, be secure in the believe that its the "correct" choice given the circumstances. As both you and I have pointed out our postings both the lumen and SDE concerns can be tweaked.

Maybe now we can start sharing some settings...

bro dirtrun dun like thatlah....

Eh, have you had any chance to further tweak the settings of your Epson? I still dun have a calibtration tool, and do not have any referrence for colour and contrast. All my settings still at zero and it looks OK.

I somehow get the feeling I am being lulled into a false sense of security, when in reality I could be geting more out of the projector.

Anyway, regarding TW700... when I watch AX100, I feel more movie like. Yeah, when u don't have something to compare, you might not know but since I've been watching it for like 4-5 months, yeah... its kinda obvious. May be I need some tweak or what 1-1 compare, I prefer AX100.
TW700 more like a normal projector.

Welcome back, where got talk behind your back. We are here to support you oni.

Really funny how everyone's preferences differ, at first when I saw the AX100 my first comment was how filmlike it was and I thought it was a plus point. Then the more I watched the more I try to focus it to try to get it sharper. In the end the filmlike quality became its minus point for me. When I watched the TW700, its was sharp as day and as such I did not find myself reaching for the focus ring every other minute. So I really had no choice but to select the TW700 over the AX100. And because it is sharper I find that the picture is more 3Dlike and the colours have more pop compared to the AX100... this I found after I viewed the units that I help to sell.

By the way, I am in Bangkoknow. In case u diden know, there was a 6.1 richter earthquake up in Laos, but it was felt in Bangkok. The earthquake was mild but having not felt one this big before, it was quite an experience. I went woah as the whole building shook.... felt like my head was spinning.

Seems like PsPBoy is getting heavy nowadays. Jason... may be its time to put your thread title to Home Theater project talk for budget players...
*
Tim, we are not HT projector Nazi's right? We accept all projector talk whether the owner is fat or thin. Dunno what is PsPBoy's disposition, but we welcome his mini reviews of what he has seen.

Now the JVC, I have already revealed my adoration for this projector. I cannot afford it now, but u know what..... its only gonna get better.... and its gonna get cheaper!!! Note that the JVC HD1 in its present configuration is not suitable for most of us that need flexibility. U won't be able to watch Astro with lights on thats for sure. The HD1 is a step in the right direction, no silly gimmicks to achieve good contrast etc. How I wish I could get one!!!

You're so right! Sony's coming out with the VW-60 and VW-200. VW60 might have a 4kUS price tag, but will be better than the Pearl. Technology's a b****h, If you keep on waiting, don't buy anything at all.

JVC doesn't use a dynamic Iris to get good contrast hehe.

How much is blackout cloth per yard?

I need to find the paint[s] as well for screen. But, I'm sure after all this, it'll be worth it smile.gif
*
Those active in this thread have already settled for a projector oledi, most are not waiting.

The AVS forum has many formula and mixes, do share which one you have chosen for your screen paint.

We are all waiting with baited breath to see your HT... sure our Dad/family won't mind having some of us over?

16 oz. Delta Pearl Metallic #02601
12 oz. Delta Silver Metallic #02603
7 oz. UPW flat
4 oz. Delta Pale Metallic Gold #02624
14 oz. Minwax Polycrylic - Satin finish

Anyone know where to get these paint colours?

DIY is a great way to go. And I think sometimes when u pay more..... u just pay more and dun get anything extra. Screens are easy to DIY... once u have settled on the material and mix u want.

I think there is a standardised industry accepted colour chart that u can use to find the right shade from another manufacturer.... read this on AVS. Do a search for this colour/shading chart and see if our local paints have something to match.

As for myself, I'll be trying a matt white canvas stretched over a wooden frame.

Let me offer my very humble take on screens.

Screens are an important part of the HT... insofar as you need one!! In my honest opinion, screens and cables share one thing in common.... there is a lot of misinformation in it and kiasu type of selling to pressure people into spending unnecessarily. A typical fabric used for home decoration would cost RM4 per metre, but when one of the manufacturers relabel it as screen, the price goes up tenfold. And just like cables.... screens just beg to be DIYed due to its simplicity. A little reserarch on the net and you are good to go.

Unless you have a problematic room with a lot of ambient light or very low lumen projector e.g. CRT projectors, u should not have to be forced to pay the unsightly prices demanded by the manufacturers and resellers.

saw it in NST today. Sony launched 2 budget entry levels 720p projectors. Wonder Sony in The Curve have these babies or not.
*
Any more news about these new babies? Sure its not SVGA, coz I saw a new range of SVGA projectors being "marketed" as Home Theatre projectors.... quiet and bright with reasonable contrast. Price is less than RM4k... b4 discount!

And so the saga ends. Welcome back to Bro Tim. You are the only one to have converted from the Panny to the Epson, tell us how it feels and if you have gotten used to the picture? Changed any settings yet, calibrated yet?

laugh.gif  laugh.gif  laugh.gif

Anyway, I will post my screenshots in my Cinema in my Home section. As for the quality for the TW700... JAson, you need a screen. You know what? I prefer Epson than Panny!!!! Its brighter, color is stronger and I hardly can see the SDE even when I focused at the sharpest. I think the screen helped to smoothen the whole picture making it more movie like. Cheers. Check out my review later. I have yet to do it properly. Now, my whole living room looks like sh!t again.
*
My screen is coming soon, the contactor will start work on my AV room in 2 weeks time.

Happy that u like the Epson TW700, well it does have superior contrast compared to the AX100... its not surprising that the colours are stronger and have more pop. The SDE does not bother me anymore... unless the movie is slow and boring!! Looking forward to a more detailed review.

One thing... seems like when I am using HDMI, I can't change to progressive or Interlace. So... how ah? I can't seem to be able to choose the resolution also.
*
If you refer to page 30 of the manual, if u are using HDMI, then u cannot select progressive/interlaced. Also cannot select output scaling. All auto based on the signal from your source.

What do you mean resolution? Aspect? sharpness? contast?

If you are refering to "Resolution" on the Info menu... its only available for analog/component signals. See page 27. Anyway this is for info only, no selection possible. Maybe for a digital signals via HDMI the resolution does not matter. I do not HDMI yet, so I dun know why its not available.

Bro Dirtrun is using HDMI, maybe he can chime in on this matter

i need to have home theatre system in my room, can someone recommend to me a budget set up with a silver screen . I need a sound system too and i wonder if AegoM is the starter for beginner like me.
Can i set up in below 4K with projector , screen and speaker in?
Thanks
*
I would say that it is possible, but the results will be unsatisfactory. For this price you will be getting somthing like a data projector or a second hand HT projector.... For the Audio, it wiil be some kind of HTIB. If these are OK for u then go for it.

i have a 9 ft x 9 ft room...is it too small for a projector? hmm.gif

60 inch is ok for me...anyway i planning to get Sony BRAVIA VPL-AW15 Projector which cost RM5k but how much is the cheapest screen available?

*
9x9 ft can, but the benefits may not be great. Without a slightly larger room and a wider screen you may not get that "immersive" effect as when you are in a Cinema. In the end it may jsut feel like a large flatpanel....

For an affordable screen can get from computer shop for a few hundred RM. If you want slightly better quality can buy material from Internet/ebay and get you carpenter to frame it for you.

I want to choose between 1080i or 720p...

Anyway, I notice more noise in this 700 compared to AX100... Not because AX100 got smoother screen but it is the pic quality... hmmmm... hmm.gif  hmm.gif
*
While I never had the 2 projectors side by side, but I would say that the AX100 has more noise.... again this is from comparing with the few AX100 that I help to sell. The TW700 picture is much "cleaner".

Hmmm... Why Sony Bravia? Do do some research before buying. RM5k is not cheap. You can get the best 720p  projector available for slightly more. May be Jason can give u a good discount
*
Ah this is the AW 15 is one of the new budget 720p projector from Sony, the other one is AW10. I saw an AW10 demo unit on display, not sure if of the availability in Malaysia. But street prices should be definitely less than RM5k for AW15(12,000 contrast) and RM4k for AW10(6,000 contrast). At that time I didn't even notice it... the casing is "oh so boring grey" and rectangle. Since it was not hooked up I did not get to see it. I did a quik read over on the www, and aparently out of the box it needs some calibration and with good black levels. I think its good value for the money. Read somewhere that is was comparable to the previous generation Epson... the TW600. Its major downfall is that its not bright and really needs a high gain screen or a light controlled room, 1100 lumens only. But in all an excellent starter projector.

BTW, I have stopped selling projectors liow. But can ask me for advicelah.

Ohhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh I seeeeee.... I guess I am outdated already. Kekekeke... but paying similar amount and getting something that is not bright really turns me off. I showed it to a friend yesterday from Singapore and he was WOW!!! He enjoyed it. Again, my usual Demo disc... The Cars... And he sat there like a small kid.... waiting for us chit chat on other thing. If its not because of the time and relative got to go, he would have finish the whole movie.... quietly.
*
But bro...the street prices of these new 720p projectors could be a cool 25% cheaper than what we paid for the TW700..... for those with budget about RM4K can considerlah.

Grown ups watching Cars quietly... priceless. Incidently I watched it with my kids last Saturday afternoon..... again. I must have seen it 15 times now... can almost recite the dialogue along with the characters, I know my daughters can!

Ka-chow!!
