I'm toying with the idea of getting a projector for my room. Thinking of putting a pulldown screen in front of the desk, 90" diagonal or so. Thinking of mounting the projector behind the fan, you can see the wires coming down from the ceiling in the picture. The distance from the wires to the edge of the desk is around 12'. What do you guys think? Doable? hmm.gif

*
Its doable, but like everyone says, find the projector that can throw a 90' diag picture from 12'. Pne u have a list of these projectors, try to audition them and pick the best that suit your budget..... THEN only work in the rest of the installation like cabling screen etc. You have to start at the projector first!!!

QUOTE(asciii @ Sep 24 2007, 09:48 PM)
how big of a room is needed for a projector+htib to be placed in a room?My concern is the projector and the distance of the wall
*
Firstly ask how big a picture u want? THe whole idea of a Home theatre is so that you get that immersive experience that u get in a cinema. Too big or too small also no good. Factors to cosider is how near/ far from the screen, enough room for all the electronics, projector and screen......

QUOTE(asciii @ Sep 26 2007, 04:36 PM)
How much does a screen which can be mounted to the ceiling costs?
*
Mount a screen on the ceiling..... does this mean u want a retractable screen that will roll up to the ceiling when not in use? If so it can start from as low as RM600 to RM100,000 rclxub.gif . THe affordable ones are the ones sold in computer shops for office presentation purposes. They are OK for the price, usually not very flat but usable. Draper etc do manufacture retractable screens but then u must be prepared to pay.

When it comes to Transfomers and robots... I get a little bit crazy and impulsive. I already have all the toys from the movie. So I decided I would need a complete collection of all the DVDs that came out. This is what I got for myself....

Special Edition Metal Box DVD
Attached Image

Special Edition HD-DVD (ALL content in HD)... alas this is in preparation for my move to FULL HD. I am still on standard DVD
Attached Image

Special Edition Transformable Cover DVD... a transforming Optimus Prime cover, how can I NOT get this one!!!
Attached Image

And the "normal" Special Edition 2 DVD box set -
Front cover

Back Cover

Inside

And now to the movie.... Overall I feel that the colours are very nice but its a dark movie.... what do u think? To those playing the home game, I am using an Epson TW700 with 300hrs on the bulb and with very subtle tweaks to the colour and gamma. I forget the settings that I have changed... I have posted the calibration that I did using Avia somewhere in this thread. Do a search if you are interested. My screen is a matt "Lily White" wall, in a yet unfinished AV Room (more on my AV Room later).

Blackout arrives at SOCCENT Base Qatar
Attached Image

And the first ever LIVE ACTION transformation of a Transformer is seen on screen. The first time I saw this scene at the cinema I almost cried.. so long have I been waiting for this. Blackout transforms. It is actually quite nice to see this in slo-mo.
Attached Image

And Blackout's EMP blasts the airbase.
Attached Image

Sam trying to sell his great granddad's eye glasses....
Attached Image

Introducing Mikaela, Sam's lust interest...
Attached Image

Scorponok going after Lennox and men...
Attached Image

Our first good look at our beloved hero.... BUMBLEBEE. Protecting Sam and Mikaela from Barricade
Attached Image

Bumblebee communicates with his protectees
Attached Image

And here is our first gopod look at the venerable Autobot Leader, OPTIMUS PRIME.... I hear cheers from everyone in the cinema!!!
Attached Image

Optimus Prime transforms into his alternate form
Attached Image

Optimus Prime talks to Sam and Mikaela....
Attached Image

Optimus Prime..... learn from the World Wide Web!!!! lol biggrin.gif
Attached Image

Introducing Ratchet, Autobot Medic.... darn good warrior too. Whole cinema burst out laughing when he commented that Sam wanted to mate with the female laugh.gif
Attached Image

Next is Jazz, Optimus Prime's 1st Liutenant. Really sad to see him split in 2 by Megatron in the movie!!!
Attached Image

Ironhide... showing Sam and Mikaela his canons
Attached Image

Optimus Prime tells the story of how Megatron and his Decepticons destroyed Cybertron.
Attached Image

The autobots at Sam's house, hiding from Dad. Now this scene really tickled the funny bone rclxms.gif
Attached Image

Bumblebee "miniaturises" the All Spark cube.
Attached Image

I then neglected to take pictures during the fight scenes, if there is any scene you want to see, let me know and I'll try to take some for you.

At the end, Boy gets souped up bling bling car AND super hot babe!!! Every teenager's wet dream come true.
Attached Image

Optimus Prime calling all surviving Autobots... We are waiting....(for instalment 2?)
Attached Image

And for those who walked out of the cinema as soon as the credits started to roll.. Starscream does fly into space, I guess to call the rest of the Decepticons to come pound the crap out of some Autobots.... in instalment 2? Soundwave better be in instalment 2 or heads are gonna roll!!!
Attached Image

I love the movie, and I love the toys... hooray for Steven Spielberg for bringing this to the cinema!!

The listed price of the projectors in the US and My got damn a lot of difference!!!!  sad.gif
*
42"plasma TV is more flexible, but when it comes to pure enjoyment of movies made for the cinema, the projector wins... no argument.

As for the listed price.... its only a listed price. If you shop around and ask for discount, you will be surprised how much some dealers are willing to give. Don't be shy to ask!!!

I'm going to US for business only just b4 Xmas and don't have much time for shopping, I've shortlisted my prj choice simple they are available at Circuit City or Best Buy which near by our office. I prefer brighter and high black prj like my cheapo 6100, therefore pana AX200 still my top choice , but a bit concern on the flickering problem that mentioned in AVSForum and mist HT1500 is my 2nd pick.
*
My advise to all who are looking to buy a projector... stretch ur RM/$ and get a 1080 Full HD projector. Even if you think u don't u need one. HD players and HD DVDs are cmoning down in price and it will be here sooner than you think....

You do not need to buy from USA. It is better to buy online from www.pricejapan.com

Sanyo Z5 is approx USD1300 delivered to Malaysia.
http://www.pricejapan.com/front/e_good_inf...216&category=11

BTW, there is not import duty and sales tax for projectors in Malaysia. Please refer tariff code below:
http://www.apectariff.org/tdb.cgi/ff3235/a...ind.cgi?MY+9007

I am still using my Sanyo Z2 bought in 2004. When the lamp is gone, I may think of upgrading to Z5 or Z6? with HDMI

Cheers!  icon_rolleyes.gif

While price japan is a good source for electronics direct from Japan, the products that they sell comes with a Japan ONLY warranty. So if you have any problems you will need to send it back to Japan AT YOUR OWN COST. If you want to shop internationally then Hong Kong's Hivizone is a better bet and with better prices. All their projectors come with international warranty.

I have said tis many times and the experienced members in this thread have also said it many times.......you can get similarly priced HT Projectors in Malaysia if you are willing to shop around and nego a bit. Save yourself the hassle and buy locally, you are assured of an International Warranty, if not then at least local warranty. And if you are buying a Panny... you do not want to be without a warranty, as bro Tim will attest to!!!

Calling for more reviews of HT Projectors. If you are passionate about Projectors and have a penchant for writing, please post up a review of a projector that you have viewed or one that you own. Ne or old does not matter.

Bro sometimes after I look at the list price, I don't even want to bargain.... Even after 40-60% off, which is usually what I can bargain for furniture, I still don't think the set is worth that amount.

Lamp: 4000 hours lamp life
RM1499.00
the price ok??? coz its old model...
*
Congratulations on your purchase, you just bought youself a multimedia projector. I guess its as good a starting place as any for a Home Theatre enthusiast. Here is my take:
1. Lumen count is a bit low but may not be an important factor in your evironment
2. Contrast ratio is a bit on the low side, tell us what you think about the colours compared to your TV.
3. Noise level 34dB.... this is on the high side again, could be a distraction.
4. Lamp 4000 hrs is really good
5. Price ok..... dunnolah, as long as you are satisfied.

I would tend to agree that you should have stretched a bit more and gotten a proper HT Projector, Sony are offering 2 budget Projectors at around RM3-4k.

QUOTE(VincentCheun @ Dec 6 2007, 10:56 AM)
hi all,
can recommend an optical cable budget around RM 100+..
thanks.
*
I don't use optical, normal shielded coax cable is just as good since no need to convert the signal so many times.... once at the source and then another time at the receiver. For an optical cable, I don think you can go wrong with any brand or make.

i just need a big screen for playing game. be4 this i think to buy a 24" LCD monitor. but i think a projector better then monitor... lol
coz can get more big.....
i happy with it... biggrin.gif
but 1 thing sad la... the projector screen cant fit my room.... ><
now using white PVC only....

n thx for u all replied...^^
*
Can I ask for a favour... darken your room and take some pics of the projected picture with your favorite game on the screen. To get best results, turn off the flash onthe camera and use a tripod when taking pics.

I am really intersted to see how you projector's performance. Might be a good bang for the buck...

Wah after going thru the posts and other threads, it seems that many people have converted to the HT Projector band wagon... but not much review?

@ bro htkaki, please give us a review of the HD65 plus Draper Luma screen.

As for me I have some screenshots for my DIY screen from ebay US with the Epson TW700. I posted it on my AV room thread. You can see it here.

I am not too sure. But HD65 has higher ansi lumens (1,400) as compare to HD70'S 1,000 ansi.

Both using the same chipset. Some people said that HD70 has better colour rendition than HD65. I do not have the opportunity to test both to make a comparison.

Btw, I have posted 2 screen shots in my thread.
*
I read that the HD65 had 1600 lumens, uses less power and has better contrast compared to HD70.....

eh.... if max size i can go is 68", no point getting hd projector rite?
*
"Dun say about mother ah, angry wan!!" Use to say this when frens curse mother in school. If I use my example of sitting at a distance of 1.3x screen width, I would say that for 8-10ft seating distance you can get a screen width of 74-92in. An equivalent LCD/Plas,a TV would cost rclxub.gif at that size. So I would say that a 720p projector would still make sense

QUOTE(hackwire @ Feb 17 2008, 09:28 PM)
when is the Hifi Show coming?
Planning to save money to get a new home theater system.
What will i get for RM 5K -7K any recommendation for Projector, Speaker and Amp. Tested and Proven . Win Awards too.
thanks
*
For that budget, it would be tough getting award winning equipment. Tested and proven would be OKlah.

The new 720p projector offerings from Sony and Optoma are below RM4k, that leaves another RM3+k for amp and speakers, should be able to get good starter package. I am not referring to HTIB/satelites.

I would not say that it is pointless, and what is your alternative to the 68" screen. THe last time In checked, a 50" LCD TV is still pretty darn expensive.

The budget projector offerings from Sony and Optoma are below RM4k. But then a projector may not be as versatile as a LCD TV. So u do the math.

For audition, look for dealers in Singapore, call Sony and Optoma and ask them to point you towards a dealer that has demo units.

As for prices, if you are persistant and smart with your search, I am sure u can get the HD70 and the AW15 at below RM4k as well.

ok, my budget is consider quite low . i notice some IT shop displaying those RM 2-3K projector by epson or ben-Q is super cheap. is it worth the money to get those projector?
*
Buying in Sg is marginally cheaper.

The multimedia projectors are a good start. There are many that use them for movies and find it satifying. And if you don;t see it side by side with a proper HT Projector, you may never know what u miss, and what u don't know won't hurt u. So I'd say go for it and start enjoying home cinema

QUOTE(rx330 @ Feb 18 2008, 07:30 PM)
calll one optima dealer in spore, they dun have any HD projector yet by optoma....
*
That's tough. Then do what many people do, do research by reading all the forums and then make a gut feel decision. At the RM4k price point, I don't think you can go wrong with either the AW10 or the HD65.

QUOTE(mysghooi @ Feb 18 2008, 09:28 PM)
Can some sifu here recommend me what is the best screen size to suit my room. My room is 8ft x 14ft. I personally think of 6ft and 7ft. Which one is the best setup.
*
It is difficult to recommend, because I don't know how big you like to watch your movies. In the Cinema, some people like to sit in the middle (like me), others like to sit on the last row, and some other like to sit right up front!!!

So if you are like me, then I think the screen width to seating distance should be calculated using a factor of 1.3x. Ie, since your room is 14ft long, and if you sit 12 ft from the screen, then you should get a screen about 110" wide. In the final analysis, its your preference that decides.
