QUOTE(sNacKRangeR @ Nov 28 2018, 03:22 AM) Yes 4G doesn't seem to have a native support on iOS devices, but it doesn't mean Yes 4G SIM card are 100% won't work on iOS devices. Like @ngyinchew 's case, Yes 4G can work on his iPhone Xs and Xs Max, but it's data-only but VoLTE are not supported. You can try buy the prepaid card of Yes 4G first to try out on your iPad Air 2. So that at least you won't waste too much money in case if it doesn't work. |

QUOTE(JuneResources @ Jan 23 2019, 10:28 AM) So that means if there is no 4G coverage, then straight away "No signal"? As of now, Yes 4G network has no partnership with other telcos like you mentioned. I believe there are some partnership with big 3 company such as C, D, M.. Example if U Mobile enter to the coverage which is no 4G or 3G, automatic roaming to maxis.. So when you're in places where there are no Yes 4G LTE network, your phone will go either "Emergency calls only" or "No service". |

QUOTE(DaTaPcHousE @ Jan 23 2019, 01:36 PM) Yes 4G currently uses 5MHz bandwidth of Band 20 (800MHz), 20MHz bandwidth on Band 38 (2600MHz) and 10MHz bandwidth on Band 40 (2300MHz).Based on my experience, Yes 4G usually carrier aggregate with B20+B38 (800MHz+2600MHz) and their LTE-CA is available in certain places only. |

QUOTE(DaTaPcHousE @ Jan 23 2019, 02:28 PM) Thanks for your input I've been to many places (around Klang Valley), and done many speed tests on my Samsung phone, the max speed I get is less than 40Mbps like you said.I guess my area is in B20+B38, speed test max is just 40Mbps, much slower than my digi infinite. My note 8 can get 4G+ but my B618 which support B40 unable to connect at all. Although the average speed I get is quite consistent, which is 10-30Mbps, but I do have a feeling that Yes 4G might be allocate maximum speed at around 30-40Mbps per user. I expects that should I get very strong dBm readings (strong signals), the speed can be way faster than just 30-40Mbps, such as near 100Mbps, which is comparable with big telcos like Maxis, Celcom and Digi. In my opinion, normal regular Internet use should be fine for Yes 4G, but if whoever expects superior network quality and performance, then just stick to the big 3 telcos. |

QUOTE(JuneResources @ Jan 23 2019, 03:25 PM) I won't say totally useless. Plus, Yes 4G now also operates LTE 800MHz (Band 20), meaning they can provide way better indoor coverage than ever before, because previously Yes 4G only operates in 2300MHz and 2600MHz for their WiMax and LTE network. But when it comes to some underground coverage, you might get poor or no service there, such as Kelana Jaya LRT train line's underground stations such as Masjid Jamek station. Since Yes 4G subscribers aren't as much as the big 4 telcos, it can be an advantage somehow, as it can still be a good backup telco whenever the any big 4 telcos did not work well in a particular area. Still, I wouldn't recommend anyone to use Yes 4G as their primary telco. Secondary or backup telco should be fine. |

QUOTE(1133 @ Feb 25 2019, 01:34 PM) I'd like to ask is the yes 4g konfem having any contract? Like that better you buy the prepaid SIM card first, rather than signing up the postpaid one first. I'd like to try it at my house before decide as the coverage is uncertain. https://www.yes.my/4g-lte-prepaid#addon Buy the SIM pack, subscribe to the unlimited data plan from RM1 to RM5 per day, and then you test kaokao. If you satisfied with the network performance, then only you subscribe the postpaid one, or consider remain as prepaid one and subscribe prepaid's konfem unlimited plans also can. If you're not satisfied, then at least you didn't rugi as much as compared to sign up postpaid one. For the postpaid one, you can choose either you want 12 months contract, or no contract. If you opt for 12 months contract, you'll get discount or more offerings. https://www.yes.my/konfem-unlimited-postpaid This post has been edited by joshhd: Feb 25 2019, 02:16 PM |

QUOTE(SleeplessEyes @ Mar 13 2019, 05:34 PM) This is my gut feeling - since they are a small player they want to keep operation cost low. So that's why they install 4g Base Station without backward 3g compatibility . And notice that they are using TDD 4g Lte. Something uncommon compared to FDD. And from what i read - TDD operating cost is lower than Fdd. The history is, Yes 4G is used to operate only Wimax at 2300MHz and 2600MHz band. Well, that was back then when LTE isn't available in Malaysia yet, and want to make themselves different from others. They probably dont have the Capex like Maxis and Digi. Wimax operates in TDD. But in recent years, things changed. Wimax is a sunset technology worldwide, and LTE is popular everywhere. The way for Yes 4G to save themselves is to migrate over to LTE. Fortunately, they can migrate to LTE easily, thanks to TDD LTE where uplink/downlink is only one same frequency, unlike FDD where both uplink and downlink operates in separate frequency. So, no need to "buy/use" new frequency or whatsoever. Yes 4G refarm some of its Wimax bandwidth for LTE. That is why you see Yes 4G's 2300MHz and 2600MHz operates in TDD. As for Yes 4G's 800MHz band, well, because no Malaysian telcos operate in that frequency, suddenly out of nowhere, some Yes 4G users found out that Yes 4G operates in 800MHz band on their phone. Some telco experts are able to detect that on their phones, and yet no official news about that also. It is said that they're having a "public trial" on that frequency. |

QUOTE(SleeplessEyes @ Mar 13 2019, 09:36 PM) Ah yes, now that you refreshed my memory about WiMax, reminds me of the-then failed P1 then rebranded as Webe which is now Unifi Mobile. Both P1 and Yes 4G are known as WiMax operator in the past, but nowadays you don't hear them mention about WiMax anymore... Because it's LTE world now, and soon, 5G. I checked that Unifi is using 850MHz FDD-LTE (Band 5), 2300MHz TD-LTE (Band40) and TD-LTE 2600 MHz (Band 38) Yup I remember now when Yes 4g first started off charging people per MB, which was a disaster in the end. Reason being I'm putting Yes 4G for consideration..is because I'm sick and tired of Umobile's overcrowded and under capacity network , despite their claims they are upgrading to 4G. As I am typing now, sometimes I cant even open a simple Google web-page at night. Already filed a complain numerous times, only god knows if they are aware or not. And coincidentally I have a Galaxy A5 which supports TDD band so thats a good thing. Its a matter of time before one day - 4G will be buried and replaced with 5G (But of course not too soon future) . So I'm staying away from the Umobile crowd. And considering trying out with a Yes 4G prepaid. Thank you very much Josh for the history lesson QUOTE Yup I remember now when Yes 4g first started off charging people per MB, which was a disaster in the end. Ring any bells?![]() Credit: https://www.johnkhor.com/broadband/update-5...es-4g-coverage/ Yes 4G LTE still remain the same RM0.09/sen per min and SMS rates to all networks even till today. A tradition that doesn't change for Yes. QUOTE sometimes I cant even open a simple Google web-page at night. Already filed a complain numerous times, only god knows if they are aware or not. Consider file a complaint to MCMC here: https://aduan.skmm.gov.my/Although not everywhere, U Mobile is known for its congested and appears-lack-of-bandwidth network. It is worth noting that recently U Mobile invest billions in trying their very best to improve and expand its coverage nationwide, but to be able to deliver good network performance that is in par with Maxis, Celcom and Digi, it is still a long way to go. Have you tried other telcos like Maxis, Celcom and Digi? Are those telcos doesn't perform the way you expected? Well you can try Yes 4G by purchasing their prepaid SIM pack. Do test the network aggressively (e.g. speed tests) to see if it meets your expectation in areas where you prioritise to have a fast and stable network. QUOTE And coincidentally I have a Galaxy A5 which supports TDD band so thats a good thing. Which Samsung Galaxy A5 model are you referring to?The first version of Galaxy A5 (2014/15) does not support 2300/2600MHz TDD LTE. A5 (2016) supports 2300MHz TDD LTE Band 40 A5 (2017) supports both 2300/2600MHz TDD Band 40 and 38. ...and compare between Yes 4G LTE's 2300/2600Mhz, 2600MHz TDD Band 38 usually perform better in some areas in terms of its network and coverage (from what I observe, may not be applicable to you). Anyhow, all Galaxy A5 phones models do supports 800MHz Band 20, so you can use Yes 4G network at least on 800MHz band if your phone or area doesn't have 2300/2600MHz. QUOTE(Hummingbird @ Mar 16 2019, 09:41 AM) The thing is, I don't even see any official news from Yes that they've now own 800MHz band. Insider info reveals that they're on public trial, but don't know until when their trial ends. I don't see any auction being done also. Yet, if you really get to use Yes 4G, you'll be connected to 800MHz Band 20 in most areas. I have a Yes 4G SIM card my own (backup secondary SIM), and I can check that it is connected to 800MHz band. |

How YTL can get a hold on 800MHz band 20 in the first place?
No open tender is being made also. If it's just a trial, until when the trial ends? |

QUOTE(farhansz @ Apr 8 2019, 09:57 AM) No need la... Just let the 700MHz to the big 4 telcos. Yes have so much bandwidth, yet subscribers so less. They already have 2300MHz, 2600MHz and now the 800MHz that they can use, without public open tender? Enough already la. Don't waste natural resources. There are many ways to do business and be rich. Don't focus on mobile to do business. |

QUOTE(se800i @ Apr 8 2019, 01:46 PM) It's a broadband MiFi. It is meant to carry along anywhere you go, and enable the WiFi hotspot so that you can use it across your devices like phone, laptop. This is how Yes 4G service like last time, the Wimax era. But Yes 4G has LTE service now, where a SIM card will be inserted to phone, and use 4G LTE service like the usual telco. |

QUOTE(fat16 @ Apr 20 2019, 10:42 AM) yes 4G broadband is WIMAX That was last time.yes 4G LTE is LTE and yes 4G broadband never use sim card go to yes store to buy yes 4G broadband sim-less thing Apparently now, Yes 4G no longer offer Wimax services to new subscribers. Their broadband page is actually referring to their LTE service, but offer as wireless home broadband service. Well, obviously Yes 4G is phasing out its Wimax services by phases. |
