My personal view, dbs and posb is the worst bank to have acct with, simply with the long q at atm machine

U may get the posb / dbs acct when u first step into sg, but subsequently i will recommend to change to uob or ocbc, better interest rate acct and less q and less ppl at their branch or atm.
*
I cannot just directly go to uob or ocbc right away to start acc?

Hi does anyone have any tips or advice on renting places?
I'm planning to move in August and view at the end of July,
but I'm tired of being ignored by the agents when I messaged them
my details these few days.
Is it too early? When is the proper time to start asking?
Does anyone know any friendlier agents?
*
i seem to be of the thought that even Malaysia property agents are better standard than S'pore ones. I thought they're good in Engilsh, turns out they're worse than Malaysians.. Can barely make out what they say or type.... bangwall.gif

Then just look for listings where you can talk to the landlord directly. Why use an agent and pay their fee?
*
but most of the ads are through agent.... i dont know if i'm looking at right place or not... propertyguru and ibilik, all that i've come across are agents....

Hi folks,

Matter of preference here, do you guys still maintain your Malaysia cellphone number?

Switch it to prepaid, cheaper plan or even cancel it?
*
I maintain a prepaid number as when I go back home i will need it for friends and family contact.

Question: is it safe to consume boiled tap water without filtering in S'pore? The water supply here does come from Johor though right...?

ok, i did not know about POSB because i did not try.

Only with DBS, i tried they dont allow me to open the basic type.

They insist on EP can only open the Multiple Currency type Savings acc...

For this i have checked with two DBS branches...They tell the same... unsure.gif

whats the difference between basic, and multiple currency savings?

Only PR's and Citizen need to contribute to CPF or after working for 2 years.
But if your employer is willing to pay CPF for you, take the chance.
You might have less to use monthly but you get quite a lot of savings tax-free.
*
Whats the interest rate of CPF savings btw? I think i read that employee aged 55 below have to contribute 20%. Thats like double Malaysia's EPF

hi there,
soon i have interview at Sg, Kallang.

1) so, i planing to get a bus from BTS kl to sg, but i check the schedule as below:

Singapore - Beach Road
Singapore - Boon Lay
Singapore - Jurong East
Singapore - Katong V
Singapore - Lavender
Singapore - Woodland

so, which area so i land??
after that how to get there, by bus, or MRT?

2) is that a possible 1 day trip (pigi balik), do i need to book online or i just need to ge to the station to direct buy??

3) bside, after interview, & i have to get back to malaysia, so when i buy the ticket, can use MYR ka?? or do i need to exchange SG dollar here bfore go there for interview??

4) let said the company wanna hire me, so, how do i find a room there?? any easy way?? (prefer sharing room, kuali life, work sleep work sleep...).

5) refer no 3, any cheaper room near that area. & what is the price?

sekian, terima kasih.  smile.gif

2- book online is safer bet, if you worried direct buy run out of tickets...Flights definitely need online buy la, but bus i'm not sure so hardcore or not.
3- as long as you're in SG, its SG dollars all the way for anything. RM cannot be used.
4- HDB flats should be the cheapest. Easy way to find room? online. Sites? ermm property guru, ibilik (These you may be familiar with since Malaysia quite popular), and some others i forgot, the newer sites like easyroommate or craigslist.
5- this needs a lot of time looking for info online so you have time, so take your time, find out area prices. Use google Map to see where each area is, to plan better your stay-to-work distance

so the CPF contribution increases annually to the 20%? how much is the interest rate for CPF deposits...? is it any much higher than the conventional bank FD rates?

no. just want to know how the CPF mechanism compares to our EPF. Seems like the contribution percentages are much higher. wanna find more details if possible.. I heard a friend saying there is an option not to contribute to CPF but rather have the employer pay their part to you in salary ... I think its not likely, but has anyone heard of such option?

JUST IN: Qualifying salary for Employment Pass applications to be raised from $3,300 to $3,600 from Jan 1, 2017

The change is part of the Manpower Ministry's (MOM) regular updating of the EP qualifying salary to keep pace with rising local wages, maintain the quality of Singapore's foreign workforce and enhance their complementarity to the local workforce, MOM said in a press release on Tuesday (July 26).

The previous minimum EP qualifying salary update was in January 2014, from $3,000 to $3,300. http://str.sg/4SNZ

MOM said it will provide lead time for businesses to make adjustments. Existing EP holders whose passes expire:

Before Jan 1, 2017: Will be able to renew, for a duration of up to three years, based on existing EP criteria.

Between Jan 1, 2017 and June 30, 2017 (both dates inclusive): Will be able to renew, for a duration of one year, based on the existing EP criteria.

July 1, 2017 onwards: Will have to meet the new criteria for renewal, for a duration of up to three years.
*
But i believe not all employers will comply with such regulations. There's many people I've heard getting EP for less than 3k

Says who? Never heard of anyone getting ep below the required  minimum salary.

Also, I hope they don't raise the minimum required income to bring in family.. 5k is already ridiculously high. Wat the gomen of singapore think? Worker here meant as slave.. ? No time even for family..

What is the best bank to put savings into? I intend to find one where i just keep it without withdrawing and have the highest interest rate possible. Is CIMB a safe choice? Very small presence in S'pore but their starsavers account seems quite high interest rate though...
