Most people compare to the 1929 pandemics, which is totally a wrong way to compare. Science has advanced way more, the financial system is stronger than ever. I think we will still see a dip but it wouldn't be too long or might not even test the previous bottom. The longer this drags out, the more light we see when the corona curve flattens and we achieve medical breakthrough in containing, curing, and preventing the disease through the form of vaccine.
*
U mean the 1918 pendemic right?

Not sure what would happen in the near future, but I have shifted position since the news of FED coming out with unlimited QE.

Currently, my cash position has moved from 90% to 20% or less..I am still very much cautious and have not deploy any monies from my savings or ASNB, in case of emergencies and unforeseen risks from the pandemic.

As I stay invested throughout this rout, I realised that I have to be flexible and move with the market, while watching out for downward trends, after all, risk management matters.

I also realise that I have started trading the market i.e. holding some stocks for short period of time and then sell them off to take profit every now and then..

Wow.. From 90% Cash to 20% Cash. That's a big swing. What did u buy?

what's your position now? I sold some of my stocks so back to 60% cash.

During the crash in March, I was doing what I call barbell. Investing. Meaning buying stocks (aggressive) and bonds and gold (defensive), using cash. Basically the opposite of what the market was doing (sell eveything and keep cash USD).

Now its roughly about:

45% equities
30% Bonds and gold
25% cash

of that equities, how much foreign how much local?

I'm 40% stocks, 60% cash (incl ASNB).
*
About 2/3 Malaysia equities and 1/3 foreign incl US equities (to be true to this thread.. 😆). What about u?

Bonds are mostly SG. Gold is just gold. And cash is mix USD and MYR deposits.

I hv negligible ASx fund or any other unit trusts.

Still got firepower..😆. And yeah I also try to limit my MYR exposure, target about 50%.

Im not familiar with ASX stocks, don't even have access to them I think. Im eyeing a Vietnam etf in my next shopping time.

Another green day in US so far. Just crazy, S&P500 is now at June 2019 levels. It's like there is no recession!

What kind of actual cash amounts are you guys investing with? Ball park figues. I see the percentages but keen to know what kind of amounts you are playing with cuz the amount has a direct impact on your risk tolerance and emotional control. For me its about RM100K for now.

Lost almost 20% for 3175. Hmm i sold off already.
Oil counter and oil instruments always jinx me i guess. I think i should stay away becausw too unpredictable. Good luck dude

For us stock etf you can try USO
*
It's not a good idea to play Oil Etfs due to the super contango. Better go for oil companies if u want to play OnG.

Tradestation global/IBKR/Captrader if you are in Msia due to their low commissions so u can do day trades all day long.
Im trying to find the answer to the question of holding long term too. Like ^above people say, buy companies instead, they can have provisions compared to ETFs which does not, margin of safety is higher.

USO's too volatile, we need to see if there's a base forming in the coming days/week. My 2 cents, look at Brent instead.

To everyone who want to track futures; (ALL KINDS of futures - btw cocoa etc is good too! ) please refer to the below LIVE trades.

If u are trading futures directly then I think it's better, coz futures are usually very short term trades anyway. But if u want to buy something like USO longer term, the risk is thay the next June contract you might see the same thing that happened this week.

GDP report tonight.

if actual is close to expected, a rally will happen... futures already +200.

these days, small positive news = big rally.

Bad economic news also rally.. 😆

I think the only thing will crash the market is if there is a big 2nd wave of infections.

im using maybank cds, charges quite high
*
I don't use Maybank, I use CGS Cimb and a cash account. Transaction cost is much cheaper to buy Bursa stocks then foreign stocks. I imagine Maybank will be the same.

So it is much cheaper buying Goldetf listed on Bursa than say buying GLD in the US. Lower brokerage and no forex costs as u buy in MYR.

The only pain is that for Cimb I have make sure I have free cash and then call them up before submitting the order for goldetf.

Hi,

I am going to use CGS CIMB, but first time buying US shares. I think the min USD25 brokerage is still quite high, but anyway, too lazy change platform and take new risks on foreign brokers or online platforms. I only have Maybank KE for sg investments, but the funds there are limited.

May I ask if you settle in MYR when you buy US shares? Does this give the best forex conversion?

How about when you sell, assuming that I want to keep USD in my trust account for future purchases, should I settle in USD?

I had posted this question in the iTrade thread but nobody replied so far.

Thanks in advance.
*
I settle in MYR and I actually trade more Malaysia, HK and SG market than US,. Sorry I don't know whether the forex rate is good or not, never do any comparison.
