December should be right with minor adjustment while the January numbers seems to be overcompensated for it πŸ€¦β€β™€οΈ

Look at the wage growth itself because it is falling YoY which is why the markets is only priced in today hence it will be falling week this week
Not really flying because the recent reported laid offs haven’t been factored or priced in yet πŸ€¦β€β™€οΈ
*
Let's see then if they will adjust the January NFP numbers later,...

There are theories out there saying inflation will never go down. Price of oil, commodities, China re-opening, will continue to hold the high prices up.

Stagflation may occur instead.

There are talks out there to invest into short-dated bonds instead.

No equities, tech, and REITs.

As long as it is not corporate bonds

If investment grade should be low enough the risks but govt back treasuries is preferred

Yes bros,... you guys said everything I wanted to say, biggrin.gif ... IG bonds, govt-issued bonds, short-dated,...

But that's what that presenter said.

For myself : Bonds (the safer ones) returns can't match inflation,... and has NO capital appreciation. I'm still for dividend stocks and SG REITs.

Thats why u hold it for short term to sit through the recession.

Then buy your reits n divvy stocks cheap.
*
Yeah,... I'm still loading-up on the abovesaid regularly. Eg, for MINT, the moment it goes below my hldg price, I'll buy a certain number. Problem with you first sentence is : we can never time properly,... when the recession will start and end.

...And when will we need to extract and put into the 'risk-on' instruments....

Looks like it's going back to QE days again with liquidity needing to be injected back into the mkt... IT's going to look silly when Feds need to incarese interest rate,.. then 'at the back', needs to inject money into the mkt..

My DBS acct offers me these US Treasuries at a premium. Can't buy from them. How else are we able to buy these US Treasuries in SG ?

Appreciated your consistent news always.

If amount is large, IBKR looks like one option (the 5 USD fee can easily be swamped by the much larger returns if amount is big enough). Your SG friends have active discussions on this: https://forums.hardwarezone.com.sg/threads/...6813629/page-14

(Can read from page 1 onwards, 14 pages in total.)

What we know is TD Ameritrade SG can't allow you to buy US T-bills at the moment. I emailed them before and got the same answer.
*
Tq for the clarification,... How abt brokers like Tiger and the other Chinese one ? If IBKR can offer US Treasuries, surely other 'offshore brokers' can do the same too ?

TIGR and Futu SG/Moomoo do not offer bond trading service.

No pricing details available on their webpages either:

https://www.tigerbrokers.com.sg/commissions/fees

https://www.moomoo.com/sg/broker-about/pricing

You may buy US T-bill ETF though.

Fesd saying still wanted to raise rates.

Look at the AUDJPY too, bro,..

I'm going to stay sideline first,... I'll just continue to hold onto my AUDJPY and will not enter any REITs or shares yet.

Your reasons are both correct, bros,... I used the AUDJPY to gauge IR movements in the world in general,...

Mkt is betting the RBA will reduce interest rates in the next mtg, tho',...

And I was also stating this pair because I have large holdings here which I'm still holding on to and riding the upward wave till now. I don't intend to enter any new position in the REITs.

Great photo there, bro.... that's Powell when he was young,.... thumbsup.gif thumbsup.gif

Pre-Powell speech at Jackson Hole now,... the USD keeps strengthening vs all other currencies. I wondered what will happen when Powell starts speaking,... USD weakens badly ????

SGD is also approaching all time high again vs our 'mighty' MYR. USD gaining strongly vs the CAD.

He has just finished speaking,... saw on Bloomberg. He insisted Feds wants 2%, NOT 3%. So,.. Feds will keep at it.

And no,... I have not converted my USDs into CADs yet,................. Come Monday,.. USD will be stronger. rclxm9.gif

Powell just said they're NOT done raising rates yet (aka still very hawkish), still want to target 2% inflation.

Their preferred inflation rate is actually "Core" not the Headlines. this is going to be tough because US labor market is still tight although some softening has appear but consumer spending still quite strong.

I think we'll be in at this level for the next 12-18 months, probably 2~3 more 25bps hike..  we'll gonna see 6%-6.25% Fed fund rate for sure if that happens.

Regarding currency... USD rises against CAD but the mighty Mexico "Pesos" is very strong!

On Ringgit vs SGD (or rest of the world).. wtf is wrong with Ringgit... even new govt also no confidence? hmm.gif
*
The preferred rdg is the PCE.

Feds can't determine the Neutral Rate.

SGD is also approaching all-time high vs the Ringgit. I suspect the politicians themselves all have foreign currencies.

Just use interactive broker. Yes can transfer. I think called ACAT transfer. Takes time though.
*
In the other forum, you mentioned IB will be announcing this too because this is an MAS directive, not a broker-specific initiative.

Based off some Singaporean guy. Not sure if it's true. Another rumour I heard is Charles Schwab got no license to operate in Singapore.
"Just called and spoke to one of the customer service officers.

He mentioned this accredited investor requirement is imposed on them by MAS and they are unable to transfer our account to TD Ameritrade US as it's not allowed by MAS.

He also mentioned that they will be one of the first few to inform us and other US brokerages will be restricted by this MAS regulation as well 😒"
First trade under US jurisdiction. Won't be affected if it's MAS directive.
*
QUOTE(Ramjade @ Sep 27 2023, 09:11 AM)
If it is really MAS rules and not broker specific, I don't know what are they playing at. Is like they are trying to make normal Singaporeans unable to invest overseas and "force them to invest local or use local brokerage". Just speculation.
You can consider tastytrade too. IBKR only charges you. USD0.35/transaction and USD2.00 per currency conversion.
*
Thank you,...

I guessed the best way is for us to call TDA and verify when the Singaporean said. IF TDA 'dares to say those things claimed by the Singaporean', then it's probably true that actions will come later from IBKR too. Which means,... no pt opening an IBKR acct in Sg anymore.

If that directive did come from the MAS, I think all foreign-based brokerages (tho' with registered branches in SG) will be affected.

I used to say many years ago : Doors do close,.... shakehead.gif

thanks for the response.

25K USD is not a big deal for a serious long-term retail investor.
*
The USD25K is true.

I was in Seattle a few weeks ago and when I saw the CS office, I walked inside and talked to them.

They have emailed me the forms to fill-up,... but before I do that, I'd like to ask here : Is CS the best platform with which we can use to buy US Treasuries ?

Are there taxes imposed onto returns from US Treasuries ?

Now new news. CS got no license to operate in Singapore for retail investor. Only AI license. Since no license and since they bought TDA, means TDA now also does not have license to operate for retail investor in Singapore.
I stand by what I said. No brokerage can beat IB. No tax on bonds.
I don't have any experience with other brokerage except Maybank ke, DBS Vickers, FSM, moomoo, tiger. In terms of cost and market access IB still win.
*
But you can't buy US Treasuries with MKE, DBSV, FSM, MM and Tiger,... or did I miss something ?

IB wouldn't be so good anymore if they start subjecting their clients to being AI's in future,.....

Bro AI thing is only sg govt rule. It affect brokerage in Singapore. As long as your brokerage is under MAS (LLC and not .com.sg) you won't be subjected to MAS rules on AI.

That's why I don't know what is MAS trying to do with TDA. Is it TDA fault or is it MAS fault. No one knows.

For me, my IB is under UK govt jurisdiction and I am happy with it. It's not open via .com.sg

Also I don't think unlike Malaysia and Singapore where you need to have priority banking firepower to buy bonds.
*
Didn't know that your IB acct was opened under UK jurisdiction, if it is so, then you are safe for now,... till rules change 'against us' in The UK.

10-year UST touched 4.8%! 30-year reaching nearly 5%... Now looks tempting to buy long-term UST... REITs on a 3rd day of rout.

Why need to go for UST 10y or 30y ? DBS' USD FD is 5.15% for 1y.

Is it because you want to lock-in the rate for the longest period ? But why need to do this ?
