QUOTE(yourinfohere @ Oct 1 2022, 07:20 AM)
Thank you of your wrote and advise, you also very nice nice.
Not like you, I not rich, not wish lose and others.
I will sell, just left money, I will buy back.
When early Covid I consider invest, but finally not success do it, now, for me I think not a good time to play investment.
Before no matter I very late to know ASNB(pass few years), but I also consider long time(wait few months till year, slow purchase) to purchase ASNB,  because I worry ASNB like Amanah Saham Johor. Each time dividend, I always thanksgiving ASNB not bankrupt.
This Monday I think I unable purchase ASNB, so I try now only, again, very hard to buy.
Maybe I knew you feeling, just like I ask and willing bring somebody open ASNB account many times, but still rejected me, so maybe I think I should give up.

When wait many 5 minutes and wrote above, also totally zero units, all holder still hold it and many still purchase it. If not demand not possible not units left. You said not worth, I also think like that, but in fact and I think no matter again and again low dividend, the holder wouldn't give up, so ASNB no need work hard of high dividend to pay holder, holder just like don't know why brainless idiot sincerely fans. Above, I wrote and explain myself, now act like fool, click and try. Really crazy.

Thank you.

You think I am rich? I started off as student with no pay. I save my monthly allowances. Even now I am just earning rm5k/month. You don't need to be rich to invest. You just need to start somewhere.

You don't need to be smart. You just need a strong stomach. Not my words but Peter Lynch. Buy good quality companies, hang on to them. Keep adding when it's red. Behind every stock is a business. Of course if you have weak stomach (easily panic) and unable to stand roller coaster ride, then better don't invest.

I don't treat my investment as playing stuff. By treating at as playing stuff you won't take it seriously.

I never sell to buy back in. Call me stupid and silly. Why? Cause no one can predict the market. Low can go lower. High can go higher and never come back. Even if it drop in price unless there's a fundamental change in business which will impact the business going forward. I won't sell. But if business will be impacted going forward, just take my loss and move on. When I see red I buy. The redder it is the better as it allow me to pick things up on discount. People who held on to Amazon and didn't sell even though drop 90% in price but keep adding would come out the other side (today) in better financial health.

Remember wealth/money is made in uncertainty and trouble times. If you never buy when it's cheap/on sale, when will you buy? When it recovers? Become more expensive? Ask yourself this question any change to the underlying business? If none, and price gets cheaper, buy. Simple. Actually now it's a good time to buy. Lots of things are on sale. Low can go lower. Did stuff I buy become lower. Of course. Did I panic? No. I just wait for next cash to comes in and continue buying.

If you are scared of losing money by buying individual companies, buy the market/index. Buy a SP500 Index or QQQ. Index will never become zero. And they have 100-500 companies inside. More than enough safety. If you think 500 to 100 companies can bankrupt at one time, show me. Another beauty of index is the are self cleaning. They remove company in bad shape not instant but overtime. So if company is headed for bankruptcy, it's likely already remove from the index.

I tell you what my teacher told me last time but updated to reflect current change in time.

Amanah saham giving you 4%p.a now 3.75%p.a from 6%p.a (dropping yearly) and paid in RM. Let's make it constant at 4%p.a unrealistic.
SP500 gives you example 10%, 9%, 7% 15%, -5% 1%, 15% (each year) after 10 years what do you get Vs Amanah saham) on average the sp500 returns 7-10%p.a on average and it's in USD Vs our freaking RM. You can add 2%p.a to the sp500 as deprecation of RM so it become like 12, 11, 9, -3, 3, 17.

I don't need to answer you. You count yourself and see. Take paper if you don't know how to use Excel. No shame in it. Take a rm10k investment and see how much you get day after 10 years. Come back and tell me.

They don't need to work harder as long as enough people believe asal better than FD.

Sorry for long post on early Saturday morning.

Sekian.

IMO, BNM needs to raise OPR by 75bps now so that the Ringgit can stabilize and perhaps strengthen a bit.

Keeping at 2.5 to 2.75 is too low. Pandemic is tapering down, everybody is working again.
Businesses are back. Demand for goods and services are high and inflation soaring!
What else are they waiting for?

Heck, in the past they were ahead of the US Fed.. now lazy azz.  doh.gif

Raising rates can only get you do far. You need fundamentald to back it up.

How do we identify that it is a free fall capitulation process at the said moment ?

When the last fortress also fall. Your Costco, P&G, ultitilies, United healthcare are some of the last fortress. Apple, Microsoft, Google are basically the 2nd line of defense.

QUOTE(TOS @ Oct 20 2022, 09:21 AM)
Already bought since Feb 1st 2022. Now paper lost of 18% including dividends. Cash flow does not look kind of healthy compared to last year's same period. FCF declined from 35.52 billion to 31.8 billion USD while cash and equivalents decline from 103.7 billion to 67.1 billion as they return 2.26 billion cash via dividends and accelerated repurchase of shared via another 4 billion.

I am worried that about the declining cash positions and the leveraged corporate structure, more so with people trading down to hypermarket own-label brands (I personally did that, and I find the savings are nearly 50%...)

FMCG stuffs aren't as inelastic as Nestle's foods anyway. People can switch from one shampoo brand to another, but Milo's flavour probably is so authentic that it's hard to replicate. tongue.gif

I prefer to see they take initiative to "cheat" customer by advertising their product's cost savings versus hypermarket's own "self-label" brands, but guess they run out of ammunitions as consumers are much smarter now. laugh.gif

They survive this quarter because of pricing of high single digits in most product lines, but you can already see elasticity kicks in with mild single digit decline in organic volume in all segments (except grooming) compared with that of Nestle. (Only NESN's Nescafe/Nespresso segment saw less than 1% organic volume decline, if memory serves, all other segments still show positive elasticity). To win back consumer's heart, more marketing expenses will surely be needed in future quarters...

P&G no moat and no pricing power to be honest. That's the reason I sold Unilever and never look back.

You increase price too much, people will just buy store brand. You want moat and pricing power, insurance, utilities, gas pipeline
electric transmission line, security software, google, Microsoft, Amazon, credit card.

That's why I said nowadays I only buy BlackRock, Google, Microsoft. Adobe, BIP, Visa, tsmc,

If no moat how come so many people still using Pantene and Rejoice shampoo? laugh.gif

lai lai we all switch to Big Value shampoo from Aeon, let's bankrupt P&G. Together we can do it! laugh.gif

Unilever cannot pass on inflation cost to consumers. That's why P&G also cannot do it.

If you read the ingredients of pantene, rejoice contain very bad ingredients. I never use them in my household to be honest.

Unilever marketing not strong enough and is funny. They once advertise their Sunlight dishwasher on BT Weekend and put a photo of someone tired of washing dishes by illustrating they have spine problems. Then at the small print they say something like Sunlight diswasher helps clean dishes quicker so can reduce/prevent backache problems...

shocking.gif Which brand of shampoo "that has good ingredients" do you use to wash your hair?

Or you didn't wash your hair with any soap/shampoo at all? laugh.gif

I believe you are in the medical line so maybe you can share your healthcare findings with us. biggrin.gif

So current 80 something range you not going to touch at all? I have only enough money for 1 last round of average down, hoping to buy as near to the bottom as possible. My current average is 99.40, damn painful when look at portfolio this pass week...
*
I will continue buying i to google, Microsoft and Adobe aka buying the falling knife. Why? Apart from economy slowing down any fundamentals change in the company? Buy quality companies. Over time you will do ok.

Of course if you are trading or trying to time the market good luck.

Sifus, is it worth going into US Stocks now with the high currency exchange?
*
It's never too late. Ask yourself where will RM be in 10-20 years? Never look at currency. If you have look at currency you would have miss out on the recent few weeks discount. I know I didnt and keep buying when the market keep dropping even though the exchange rate is expensive. Now sitting on some fat double digit returns.

Your money, your choice.

If it is Brookfields no because it is under Master Listed Partnership

Unless it is Nasdaq BPY then it is affected

PTP taxes are only affecting those traded in US bourses hence those overseas Dr are not affected by it

Based of the list I shared BIP is in the list.

I was the first to request for a list of affected ctrs from Tigers,... it is interesting that this discussion is only starting to take place here today. I believed all listed partnerships originating in the USA will be affected.

Tiger Brokers will be as unsure as you and I are,... I think, Tigers will just want to avoid any ctr that is uncertain. You can chk with Investor Relations of BIP if you wished to,...

That's what I am planning. But I am sure they will give a reply consult your tax adviser. Lol. Typical corporate reply.
