basically don't trust any bull runs during this time.. economic data doesn't look promising yet + fed keep increase interest rate. War in Ukraine also creating uncertainties. My 4 real life investing friends also don't have positive outlook now.

if wanna invest also DCA small amount, can wait market more red first before adding.

US already showing technical recession with 2 quarters of falling GDP, thanks to higher costs of borrowing due to Fed's interest rates. War in Ukraine making inflation worse via gas/oil/food issues. US and EU also keep spending money to donate war equipment to Ukraine.. this will worsen inflation also.

if you work in big US/EU mnc later could even lose job due to company cutting costs.. so better to have enough emergency funds to prepare for this. Many companies nowadays like to move their GSS hub to India due to low costs of business.

hope China don't go crazy and go war with Taiwan.. just coz of Pelosi. Don't need another extra problem.  sweat.gif

Time of uncertainty is best time to buy but I buy when market is red, never when it's green.

Yeah, but few days ago there's false bull run.. Many articles also excited keep say rally is here.

better to wait things cool down back to red then buy. Easily will enter red territory again for most stocks and ETFs during these times.

I am always ready to buy when it's super red. Not normal red.

what is your technique of buying at it's lowest? chart or market momentum?
*
simple support and resistance and when you see people panicking like should I sell now and buy in later? You can gauge the market when it's all doom and gloom. One very effective way, when you buy it hurts you. I usually wait for like 15-20% discount before start buying small amount. And I keep buying the dip as long as I have cash.

That's why I do options so I always have cash every week coming in regardless of how market is performing. In addition to options I am taking on a separate part time job to let the keep coming in.

Let china do. I have faith in US tech and companies. China are just copy cats and their copy cats are not superior to US tech.

LOL! what's that 3 letter word again?

yup... let's collect, collect and collect....
p/s isn't the stock market objective is to make money?

collecting shares forever and ever is not quite the same, esp if the stock keeps getting lower and lower and lower and lower..................................
*
if future is bright why not? I am waiting for tesla to come in at 6xx ish then I will start collecting again.
only if you are a trader and you think future is dark then don't buy rclxs0.gif
many of my buys were done when it's selling off. I have some up double digit just because I bought them few months back when everything is selling down. Money is make in a down market and when one is brave and willing to buy when everyone is selling. The lower you can buy, the higher the safety of margin you can get.

Keep in mind they are not small caps or penny stocks. They are stocks like Adobe, Microsoft, BlackRock, amd.

I can and will buy again if market drop to May-June lows.

When do you SELL?
The future was very bring for GE once too.  laugh.gif
*
I don't sell unless fundamentals change. Some stuff I keep for donkey years already.

Kind of yeah. With options bringing in extra 1-2x amount of monthly salary per month it's like working extra jobs but all online and only need I put once a week. I couldn't keep buying when I was a dividend investor but now I can. Thanks to options.

I think my prediction wrong due to US inflation index went down. US market keep rallying these few days. Sorry guys.

Nothing to be sorry about. Market just relieve that inflation is not "so high". Let's see when the relieve will disappear. For now I am taking a breather and not buying anything. Time to build back my cash pile.

Better diversify in case Tesla stock tanks. 25% is a lot for me.

Many possible reasons such as rise of other EV companies, Tesla making bad biz decision, Elon suddenly dies, car defect resulting in massive lawsuit by users (self driving software is already one of them, US could take action one day), aggressive buy over etc.

For stocks best to have around 20-30 type for equity.. you can convert them to % here. If easy method just buy ETF like S&P 500 or VWRA.

right now Tesla is overpriced right? saw it shot up so much in these few days due to earnings news and inflation reduction act (somewhat a climate bill):

not sure if US gov has the money to sustain it or not.. or it's just all talk no show.  sweat.gif

Depends how you look at it. If it's going to be a 3T company by 10 years time still undervalue as one of our friends here.

If you think it's not going anywhere and competition going to eat it's lunch then yes.

What this story tell us is nothing is permanent. Look at current AAPL, MSFT, AMZN, GOOGL etc they look so strong but no one can really predict 10-20 years later will they still be reigning supreme. That is why investing in individual stock is always risky. For ETF, I believe they can swap stocks out if the index they are tracking drop certain stock. For more actively managed ETF, they may intervene to drop the stock from the top holdings if it so happen.

E.g in STI there is a list of stocks that comprise the Singapore Index. Stocks in that list can be swapped out and another new stock take it's place. Which is why in a way ETF (basket of stocks) is actually "safer" than individual stock but then great returns/losses seldom come from ETF they come from individual stock instead
*
You want to waste money by buying companies like SPH (used to be in STI), Sinktel by buying the STI?
For US part intel, Boeing, IBM, ford, GM. By buying index you are supporting those companies and hence indirectly wasting money on lousy quality companies.
That's why I just pick few stuff from the etf and buy that and so t waste time and money on rubbish companies.

for retirement portfolio, is it better to accumulate SPY over VTI, VOO, etc

rationale is although SPY expense is higher at 0.09%, but once we accumulate 100 shares, we can sell covered call to earn some premiums

I will rather go QQQ rather than SPY.

Is it so bad that there's literally no one discuss anything last night? When i look at my portfolio, in my mind it's like "Well i'm not good at intermediate/advance option strategy, not enough cash to sell more puts, and will be making a lost if i sell Covered calls lower than my strike price..... I shall let it go and sleep".

Any incoming important date need to take note?
*
Jackson hole meeting.

I give you a tip. Sell put when market is red and sell calls when market is green.

Edit. It was so green yesterday.

Im a noob in US stocks,  is it really worth it ? i mean we r earning pathetic MYR and the exchange rate is shit now Vs the US dollars, there is also a 30% tax on US stocks on their  dividends, and we also need to pay all the misc fees if using Rakuten trade to trade.

End of the day its only worth for short term trading i.e;  buy n sell US stocks weekly or mthly.
If u buy n hold long term ur dividend sucks as well.... only hope is on the high growth of the particular stocks.

So sad to be earning ringgit wei....
*
Who asked you to use rakuten? Use stuff like ibkr or TD. USD0.35/transaction or free commission. Sendiri want to give free money to Rakuten for what?
First mistake is use local brokerage. Never use local brokerage for overseas investment. You are just giving them free money.

Who ask you to do dividend investing in US? Learn to do options. It's tax free. You want to do dividend investing, focus on HK, SG, UK and Canada. Canada is only 15% tax.

I earned ringgit and move all my monthly salary overseas once I reach rm10k. Been doing that for years already. I am sad I earned ringgit but I put my ringgit to work as soon as I received it. By making it work, I am generating free USD every week.

Coz all my other stocks are in Rakuten? dont wan to open so many diff platform.

Coz Not everyone into options.

Im just highlighting the disadvantages of us earning  MYR n investing stocks in US dollar.
*
Keep your Malaysian stocks on rakuten and your overseas stock on ibkr.
If you want to do dividend investing use ibkr.
If you want to hold pure us stocks only, use ibkr or td.

Do not use local brokerage unless you like/don't mind giving free money to your brokerage.

That's the only way.

Remember I am earning RM too but I am making my RM earn tax free USD. If something is not in your favour, do something to make it in your favour (transfer RM regularly overseas to invest). Don't sit and moan that you are earning pathetic ringgit. Do something about it.

If I am earning pathetic RM, that's means work more. Earn more. Work part time. Whatever you need to do put in the time. Grind to make up for it. Don't hold ringgit. Once you get your ringgit, don't hold on to it, faster convert it.

Hi

Thanks for the input. I am also new to this.
When you say you convert the ringgit to foreign, you mean you transfer the money from local bank acc to another country bank acc? or it is via forex?
I'm sorry, I'm curious but new to this.
*
Yes. Transfer RM to SGD.
RM -> Sunway money -> SGD into CIMB SG -> SGD into interactive broker SG bank acocunt -> convert into USD at spot rate (real time rates without any markup unlike banks) inside interactive broker.

Never ever use local banks to transfer money unless as mentioned before this you like giving free money to banks. Sotong bank advertise fee free transfer but it's a scam as yes it's fee free but they hike up the exchange rate hence you get less SGD per RM.
