Hi dear shifu,

May I know 10% of gross proceed meaning what ya?
If the total cost is 5,000 USD, when I sell at 10,000 USD in 2023, meaning the 10% tax which I need to pay is 1,000 USD? or is based on the profit i get ie. 500 USD in this case?

I was told even if you exit at a loss, you will be taxed too.

Thank you for the clarification  notworthy.gif
*
Yes for WHT dividend is taxed at 10% but better clarification check with your broker

So far for me no tax except only on dividends

Fed fund rates now at 4.25% ~ 4.5%.
We're going to see US Fed rate @ 5% next year...
Darn.. will BNM follow?  Malaysia rates too low.
*
It depends on next CPI print after the holidays if it goes down then you will expect either 1 or 2 small hike

Even if BNM follows it will only be 25bp as they are even more worried than the Feds 🤦‍♀️ and the next policy meeting still long way to go

QUOTE(yehlai @ Dec 15 2022, 04:18 AM)
this dip triggered many buy
wasnt going down.. damn

Not really a buy and wait tomorrow for market to digest 1st

Mega cap will suffer tomorrow

Not sure whether to sell and allocate more into cash or not. Just to trade abit before year end and try to juice up next year return if there is a recession earning dip to buy back what i sold at cheaper.

Probably from now till march won’t have much upside imo, but then most of my holdings i dont consider to be over valued, most is fair value or slightly under at the moment. Do nothing seemed like the default to go.
*
Yes if you been holding anything less than 10% just do nothing is the best way

Trimming now also not a guarantee to protect your investments

QUOTE(yehlai @ Dec 17 2022, 02:08 PM)
AAPL down again next week
*
You will be surprised AAPL will rally next week 🤦‍♀️

Apple has factored in the EU regulations up ahead and the App Store earnings in EU is pale comparison to Asia and America

In fact it is time to shop to buy Apple shares soon if the slides keeps going on 👏

I think AAPL may disappoint in upcoming Q4'22 earnings (will report in Jan 2023).
But, there's opportunity to add if they oversold it. Best if they can knock it all way down below $100 again... devil.gif
*
Might not disappoint but definitely doesn’t mean analyst estimate

iPhone sales will be surprising on the slightly down but iPad and macs should be solid for yoy

Look at 107 if you wanna buy as I believe BRK will target to buy more at that price

Not just apple but other companies as well. I belive that we will see one more last leg down in 2023 before the market starts to price in. Worst case scenario is s&p drop to 3000, that's when I will aggressively DCA. Now I just stay and watch
*
3000 is 30% down not likely to happen realistically we should look at 3400 which likely to happen after a major breaking news happen next year

We just wait and see as below 3000 will be severe depression moment

You can’t look at this way as the markets now is volatile is due to repositioning and profit taking by some 🤦‍♀️

Wait till Feb after holidays data is out to see whether it will be soft landing or not

End of Yen monetary easing policy and pivot to switch to a new flexible quasi tightening policy

No choice BOJ have to make this move otherwise hyperinflation and Japanese govt is broke from funding their new defence policy to counter China

QUOTE(square2 @ Dec 20 2022, 04:51 PM)
most likely those involved in forex trading will feel the burn if they hold/long usd/jpy

when fed up int rate, everyone bet on usd/jpy. now BOJ is upping the game by raising interest rate, so traders are running for their life

please correct me if i am wrong
*
Yes BOJ change policy to pivot to more flexi tightening regime

Those FX traders who shorting JPY is running for the hills now

WHT 10% or other taxes?

If other taxes can claim back but broker has to know how to do it

Could have caught a few more pips, which are valuable to me because of my big amt,.. and very high leverage,... mega_shok.gif

But okay-lar,.. need to be contented in life,...

I thought your position was since the pandemic hits which is years?

As long as it is profit don’t look back too much and look forward to a new long in future

Sold off my JPY back weeks ago when hit 140 so should be thankful as well 👏

IBKR is my main account and I got a few more which is just used for testing the spread and volatility

Trading FX make sure your broker has Tier1 license otherwise forget about it

Just check the DrFX thread as all the details are there

I do spot mostly

Future haven’t touch deeply as i am still learning on how to spot and trade on FX contracts on the exchange

Very complicated compared to spot and hold

Well, at least I think normally like most other people biggrin.gif . It's easy to say "cut your losses, and hold onto your gains". But, we never know the future. A current loss may be a future gain, and an existing gain not realised may turn out to be a lfuture loss.
*
Agreed on that that’s timing the market bottom it is a fools game 🤦‍♀️

Good example now Tesla shares hitting 52week bottom in no sight as there is no support for its bottom

Sometimes we just have to buy and confidently disposed when the time is right

To those who bought BRK.B at 260+ during Jun and Oct bottoms well done to them 👏

Anyway.. everyone knows VW is number 1 worldwide in terms of sales... Tesla not even in the top 10.

Now the ranked automaker in terms of PROFIT... (isn't this what everyone wants?)

and where is Tesla?

user posted image
And if based on pe? (ie the lowest pe of all automakers), Tesla is NOT even in the top 20 cheapest...

Seee

https://companiesmarketcap.com/automakers/a...ed-by-pe-ratio/

So yeah....
*
In terms of profit wrong way to look at the number itself as you need the NP for each unit of vehicle sold as Tesla is double digit NP while Toyota and VW sell a lot of units in order to have the earning numbers big while each unit NP is less than 8% 🤦‍♀️

Tesla has other ways of making money like servicing, upgrades and swapping unlike traditional car makers

Hehe... Just trying to stress the 'super generous' market valuation enjoyed by Tesla. tongue.gif

Some interesting points...

During the peak, by looking at the market cap, the market priced Tesla more than double the value of Exxon Mobil. Yup, Tesla was once worth twice the value of Exxon!!!!

Now, after the 'correction', finally Exxon is worth more than Tesla.

The value Tesla lost during the correction.. The amount 'lost' was more than 8 of the biggest automakers in the world.

Yeah, was Tesla grossly overvalued or goreng way too much during the peak??

And yeah... After this 'correction' .. We can see that among the automakers, Tesla doesn't generate the most revenue, Tesla doesn't even generate the largest profits, so why is Tesla STILL priced at much higher earnings multiples?

Or bluntly put, Tesla is still over valued despite falling 'so much'!!
But for me... I take the easier route.. 'Why bother with a stock whose owner has the trust issue'.

tongue.gif
*
Who says Tesla not profitable last Q it is 15.34% net profit margin while Toyota it is 4.71% which more than 3x itself 🤦‍♀️

The recent downturn in Tesla is not but sentiments against Musk as they want him to focus nothing but only on Tesla

Tesla will doubled in price from the current level once a proper CEO is hired for Twitter

This is on PTP. Below is the reply from IBKR

"With regards to your second query, this is a tax on the gross proceeds from a sale."gross proceeds from sales of and certain distributions from Publicly Traded Partnerships ("PTPs") will be subject to 10% withholding starting on January 1, 2023.". This means that a tax will be applied irregardless if it is a gain or loss."
*
At least IBKr is clear cut explanation

I got a good explanation on this one from FSM as well

Anyway as long as you not holding PTP shares it won’t affect most of us 👏

Thats awesome.

I've noticed biotech held up very well when the rest of the market was plunging this month. Could be the start of sector leader.
*
Yes so far oil and anything to do with healthcare holding well

With China Covid we will see explosion in cases hence biotech and heath related will do well in Q1

If you bought into during Oct downturn you will be happy as the gains are consolidating more now

Look at Merck and Lilly for this year as solid gains even when the market turns

Are you buying biotech stocks or ETFs?
