VIX is low, index is high, broad market is hard to rise strong in coming days.
so ya, bet on bear is relatively safer in a way.
good luck to you!  icon_rolleyes.gif

will have to see later.

wild swings again tonight, i think:

the American Petroleum Institute on Tuesday showed U.S. crude inventories rose by 2.2 million barrels in the week to July 8 to 523.1 million, compared with analysts' expectations for a decrease of 3 million barrels.

since iea made a statement before eia data is released, likely eia will report stock buildup too, like api.

wti retreat to <45?

ok, dow/s&p can continue to rally! biggrin.gif

commodity seems broadly rebound. I see copper, silver, gold, oil....all rebound.....weak dollar cause all this? maybe world consumption rebound as well....broad world economy recovery begins this 2H16 for real?..... hmm.gif
*
it's probably a mixed picture.

china, the main consumer of commodities is showing lackluster performance:
http://www.cnbc.com/2016/07/13/china-june-...ts-decline.html

commodities... some rebounding like mad, some still in doldrums. can't lump them all in one.

crude... many nations depend on it to survive, a sole source of income, cannot pump less. plus all those floaters now with so much in stock.

one thing for sure - we will have cheap petrol and "low inflation" for a long time.

like bnm says:

US crude stockpiles fall less than expected at 2.5 million barrels: EIA

4 out of 5 times, eia data is opposite to api. laugh.gif

so, wti should be going back to 44.xx.

hazardous times... very easily burned by uwti/dwti. sweat.gif

the cold fact is every two humans on the planet can hold one barrel at home now. tongue.gif

and the producers can't stop pumping...

Sometimes, I think those numbers (API and EIA) do not matter much but rather cause the kneel jerk reaction
and push prices towards the extreme side of the range if they cross over a technical line.

Right now, we're still in this mid-term range here: 44.50 to 51.50

But, since we're at the low 45 range here for crude and general market at highs, I think if the general market pulls back, crude could likely test that floor and if more bears pile in, that 44.x floor can collapse.
So, better put a tight stop here.  nod.gif

there's one video i saw yesterday...

the guy said average for 2016 should be 41.

which means we will see 30's again later in the year.

that's trouble! biggrin.gif

Nicely done!  rclxms.gif

Anyway, thanks for the heads up on SZO but it is difficult to see that chart.
On the other hand, DWTI despite its leverage move for inverse crude, its chart is forming a nice nice saucer-like shape and moving up on the far right side. It looks bullish and readying for another push to 90-100 level.

Yeah.. of course they do but I don't think they went in buy back their oil like that just to support the market from collapsing below that number.

All they need to do is just to say the words 'cut production', and this Oil market will rally to the moon.  biggrin.gif

Perhaps do not even need to act on it.. just say 'maybe we're thinking about cutting back xx', the bulls will jump back in as if it will definitely happen.

You know why? It is just like how in early part of this year, when OPEC and Russians were planning to talk about "freezing" production at the current level (not even cut.. just maintain only) but the talks collapsed with no agreement. Oil rallied from the lows of $26 till this level with no confirmation on what they actually did or did not do.

So far, in reality NONE of them has any production cut at all... how the heck did the market even justify the price at this level, right?  All talk only, but the bulls got very excited already.     biggrin.gif
*
biggrin.gif thumbup.gif

really, that has been happening for sure. only that the bulls NEED to push it higher all the time.

every small mere "cut talk" from opec will stir up a rally.

every temp outage - fire or strike or fighting will light up a rally.

once a while, iea says something nice - rally again.

when iran or saudi ramps up production, or new oil fields come onstream, not so much talk.

china can't buy/stock more; excess crude on floaters is now at 7 year high.

now, there is a part 2 - gasoline and diesel are now overflowing from the refiners too.
http://www.cnbc.com/2016/07/13/this-part-o...ng-for-oil.html

i would stay bear:bull in the ratio 3:1. laugh.gif

Despite oil pulling back to the 45.xxl, I'm surprise how bullish the Oil companies  stocks (inside XLE/OIH holdings) has become. They seem to be diverging away from the crude price.
*
xle, oih, slb, xom, chev... all majors oil/energy stocks and etf's holding good after recent run up.

read something about these majors now downsized and trimmed until their cashflows are now superb! biggrin.gif

the weaker ones are all under water or have filed chapter 11.

Here! But patiently (but getting bored n tired) waiting for a huge reversal.
*
about huge reversals, it may have started!? biggrin.gif

last major rise:
april-june 2016
35.40->51.40 = +45%

june 2016-now
51.40->45.10 = -12%
to go lower?

with 3x leverage, can gain or lose 36-135% less decay in those periods.

laugh.gif

one analyst's latest view on 50ma, 200ma... going 41...?

Also on Friday, data from oilfield services firm Baker Hughes showed U.S. drillers added oil rigs for a sixth week in the last seven. The number of oil rigs operating in U.S. fields rose by 6 to 357, compared to 638 at this time last year.

6 more rigs = not much, can rally! biggrin.gif

well, if 6/7 weeks had rig count rise, a matter of time the stocks will incr...

no fish today...

have a good weekend!
