How on earth can it be rm2K plus? The price in US is projected to start from USD500 which is about rm2k BUT that is if u take up a contract with AT&T or Cingular. It's subsidised by them. U cant possibly get teh iPhone for rm2k here.

by 2008 will Apple have been working on 2nd Gen?
then if we purchase the iPhone in 2008 and the 2nd Gen releases in 2009 i will commit suicide wei.

HAHAHAHAHA..yeah, especially after spending like RM2.5K on one.

Apple's pretty fast catching up with the technology, they're working on the new iPhone probably right now (middle status maybe). Lots of people complain why 1st release of this iPhone does not have 3G like every cellphone maker does more than the iPhone. Maybe Apple wanna earn profits by the 1st release and see how it works, on the other hand surprise might just rise with the new iPhone with 3G capabilities (3.5G hopefully) and much more surprising and incredible specs compare the the other phone in the market right now.

I think it isn't a question of just '3G'. What's the market share of 3G in the US? Japan? Malaysia?

Apple has studied this and decided on the overall best and widest network which is GPRS/EDGE. Like what's been said, the iPhone will fly off the shelves NOT because of the hardware, but the user interface and Apple's strong brand.

Yeah, it's 5 years ahead of any other mobile phone GUI right now. That's the coolest thing ever in it!

One thing that Apple has always been good at is in developing eco-systems for their products. The Mac + OSX + iLife is one, the iPod + the iTunes Store and in the future + the Apple TV is another.

I am waiting to see what the iPhone eco-system is going to be like. It may start out as riding on the iTunes/iPod wave but it's possible that it will branch out on its own. The tie up with Cingular to provide visual voice mail is a hint of what's possible. I can't wait to see what else is in store over the next 12-24 months.

The iPhone will fly off the shelves the moment it is introduced 3G or not. The question now is not whether but how Apple plan to innovate and sustain the initial success.

A very good comment on 'eco-system'. Apple's an ace with strategy. They know what works and it's like they have one of those 'oracles' to tell them the future. It's a gift.

And yes, it will be interesting how Trojan-like the iPhone is, like the iPod.
