Yup since both had its strength and weakness and honestly the p990i is super worth at the rm1175 price tag. I dont think any other model can offer the similiar functionality of p990i with the similiar price tag
*
I must agree that the P990i at the price you bought is a very worth buying device. smile.gif

That's the exact question I've been wondering.. apparently there aren't any malaysia-compatible GPS software for UIQ3 yet. :/ as in, no malaysian maps.
*
There actually is, but from what I understand, the drawback is that you need to use Garmin MobileXT + GPS10x / Malsingmaps combination.

Why I say it's a drawback, is because Garmin GPS10x costs RM 7xx, and AFAIK other BT GPS receivers cannot work with Garmin MobileXT.

Ah.. I see. And I read too that some companies are reluctant to roll out mapping software for UIQ3 as the user base is low compared to other OSes like Windows.
*
That, and also coupled with the fact that GPS is not that popular yet in our part of the world compared to Europe or North America. Hence there's not much motivation on part of the developers to come up with something for our region, as we have to face the fact, developer's develop applications hoping that they get some money in return.

Hi Guys, i am planning to get a P990i, just wanna clarify a few things before i made the decision firstly do P990i support the following :

- Task,appointment,to-do's,to-call management ?
- If yes, does it show in the main screen like WM based PDA ?
- Sync with MS outlook for calendar events and MS Outlook Contacts
*
1. Yeah it supports Task, Appointments. Not sure what you meant by to-call management, but to-do = tasks. smile.gif

2. No it doesn't. Only the W950i and M600i supports this feature by default.

3. Shouldn't be any problem, though I haven't tried that myself.

Just received news from my dealer that the AP prices for the P990i is going to shoot up again within the next month.
*
I somehow think this is good news.

At least it protects the value of the P990i. smile.gif

I don't think so...maybe there is a lot of AP set laying around....hehehe
*
If there's indeed a lot of AP sets lying around, then the price should drop instead of increase, as blinky indicated. smile.gif

New P990i user here
I've got mine for a like a day only

I want to ask you guys if there is any software or anything that I can use to manage my schedules, to-do list, or even the contacts, I don't like outlook.
I remember when I was using the Clie there is something that I can write my schedules and all of it on my PC, so that I don't need to write with the small keyboard on the phone.
Its really good to have you schedule in your pc also
its easier to read and adjust or modify them.

I did read the information from SE's site, they mention that I can do that over some software, but they never mention which. They just said software.

I did read through a few pages here and there of the the thread, but at 66pages its really long to go through...so I hope you guys don't mind if I just ask this again if it was previously answered.

Thanks
*
AFAIK it can only sync with Outlook.

I too tried looking for an alternative but didn't find any.

1) Do I need to install any Antivirus for Symbian UIQ3 ??
*
There's no known virus for UIQ 3.0.

So theoretically you're pretty safe without any Anti-Virus applications.

Anywhere can I found to download any map software?
*
Even if you have the mapping softwares you still need a Garmin 10x BT GPS receiver.

Other brands won't work, as the only mapping software, Garmin MobileXT requires a Garmin 10x for it to work.

it will be around 2k sad.gif
coz ..
SE always like that..
smartphone price will never reach below Rm1.5k at first launched

3.2mp ma biggrin.gif
*
I believe it would be more than that, judging by the specs that it come with.

I'd say somewhere around the region of RM 2,500 to RM 2,999.

anyone know how to attach "picture" in to the "song album" of W950i? it seams i can't find it. any help appreciate
*
AFAIK as long as there's an image file of the album in the folder, it'll appear.

I remember doing this to obtain the picture on my ex-W950i.

I'll repost my question since it wasn't answered - not meaning to sound rude, but I'm leaving somewhere else this coming Saturday and the day is approaching fast tongue.gif:

I've a question about the backup feature in the Sony Ericsson program for P990. I'm lending my phone to my friend as I'm travelling overseas, and I'd like to backup sensitive SMSes before removing them.

Question is, when I restore the backup containing only the 'Unified inbox', will my contacts, applications, etc, disappear as those weren't backup-ed? Or will the restore simply overwrite the current unified inbox when I choose to restore it?
*
From my brief encounter with UIQ 3.0 phones (Read: P990i, W950i), best way is to perform a full backup, do a Master Reset before handing the phone over to your fried.

And when you come back from overseas, just restore the backup you performed some time back. All your contacts, messages and installed applications will be there as the way you wanted it.

Unless you're running on the Garmin MobileXT + Garmin 10x combo, you can't utilize GPS locally.

there is a software compatibles w/ p990i
i mean GPS software
the name of the softwre is "TomTom"

more info about it..
u must google w/ pakcik guugle tongue.gif
*
TomTom does not support local maps AFAIK.

The only solution for GPS, as I've mentioned earlier in this thread is to buy the Garmin GPS 10x BT GPS receiver which comes with Garmin MobileXT.

kinda shock with the news provided..

well at this time do all of u guys think is the best time to purchase this p990i phone?
*
I'm just being straightforward, that if you cannot live with the bugs present in the P990i, you might as well consider other models as SE is not giving its continuous support for this model anymore.

The P990i was supposed to be a powerful phone. But with all the problems surrounding the phone, I see a lot of it for sale.

Let's hope SE learns from its mistake and make the P1i a very good "power phone". smile.gif

LOL!

I just bought myself a brand new M600i. tongue.gif

After leaving the UIQ 3.0 scene for sometime, am pretty outdated to any matters pertaining to it.

Any recommended/must-have apps to install on it apart from Swiss Manager? tongue.gif

oh...there are two type of p1
1 is P1 n the other is P1i

what's SE doin huh??

lauched for 2 version to gain more profit is it.... shakehead.gif
*
You must be new to SE phones, as SE has been using this coding system since K700i's days.

P1 is the model's name, and it's divided into 2 variants according to region, the "i" and "c" version with the latter being sold in China only.

The "i" version is sold in the rest of the world with local customization in the country it's sold in.
