Yes, in all fairness the mirrorless cameras are capable but they're not quite there yet against the AF capability of DSLR models, even semi-pro models.
I do know some pro photographers use Fujifilm X series for wedding photography, comes to events they pre-focus rather than AF track. Battery life is a concern because at full charge, a mirrorless probably does 300 - 400 shots while an SLR could do 800 - 1000 range. |

Huh, u sure about that? I am not user of A7 series, but in survey to buy one. Maybe u guy had used that, is it the AF really that bad compare to DSLR? Even the high end A7r ii which has 399 points of phase detection AF? Sorry, I never heard about their AF problem... We didn't say it's not good. We said it's NOT QUITE THERE when compared to DSLR systems.
In case you didn't get it yet - it's good BUT under more challenging conditions, the DSLR still comes out tops. |

Some articles like this will lend you some confidence though, they can focus well.
http://www.dpreview.com/articles/688439175...-af-performance However A7R II is a beast, and in my opinion you can't use it s a representation of all other mirrorless cameras out there. Mind you the A7R II alone on sites like BHPhoto is priced at $3,198.00 for the body alone. Another thing to point out is that the AF in that article above is stationary subject and controlled lighting condition. When you shoot at wedding events, subjects are moving and lighting condition often changes, that's where the challenge comes in. |

This is first time I heard A7 series has AF weakness... 399 points merely talking about coverage point of AF.....which is totally useless unless you like to focus on stuff very close to the edge. And the reason mirrorless suck at AF compared to dslr cause dslr has dedicated AF system separate from the sensor unlike mirrorless. But around this time, mirrorless AF is pretty close to dslr like the a6000 series, unless you bring out 7DmkII, D500, and those D5, 1DX camera you can buy small car with. And depends on users' need, you may not even need that much autofocus speed if you primarily just shoot normal stuff....like wedding. This post has been edited by DaddyO: Jul 4 2016, 09:37 PM |

this kind of topic always lead to nice arguments.... let me chip in some..
a great sifu can shoot a wedding with just RM 2k gear. anything else are marketing talk. or lame excuses to bash/brag over others. and people who never uses the said camera but can claim to know battery power range or the AF so well, i salute you, your words means nothing. the said NP-FW50 Battery (sony mirrorless camera battery) are cliam by TIPA with 300-350 shots, same like canikon TIPA claims around ranging from 400 to 700, but in real life, if canikon can hit 800-1400 shoots (double of TIPA claim), and i did manage to hit 800+shot with a single NP-FW50 Battery with a nex3(C i think) during my trip to china in autumn (cold), and 2000 shot with a single NP-FW50 Battery with A55 during a 2 hours fashion show shoot. maybe i brought a spoil battery with extra capacity? as for the AF, when subject move out of my 5D3 af point, my 5D3 goes hunting again which is annoying, where else the A7R2 399 tracks it nicely(friends unit during wedding), i mean seriously crazy! and smooth! no wonder so many pro are switching to sony system now... maybe i should too. win some, lose some. |

Not really pandai in photography. But i think it is all in preference and what you comfortable to use. During my wedding, it was shot with 2 XT-1, and 2 fullframes. Still the outcome of the albums are to my satisfaction both as a customer and also as someone who knows a lil bit about photography

Information also come from other users mah. If you say like that then your sharing also pointless, because we can't use it........... because we have to buy our own only our words mean something. My info comes from actual pro wedding photographer who went from DSLR to Sony mirrorless to now Fujifilm range. |

If you say like that then your sharing also pointless, because we can't use it........... because we have to buy our own only our words mean something.
