Hi sifus, as a start up for wedding photography, is RM10k sufficient enough to buy some decent gear?

If yes, what would it be? Which body and lens that you recommend and why?

It will be used for actual wedding/dinner.. Not pre-wedding..

Thanks yall in advance.. smile.gif

some would say 70-200 f4 L cos it's lighter than below

some would say 70-200 f2.8 L for its low light as you will be shooting indoors

body wise 70d is a very capable camera

If you are open to used and not new, can get the combo
1) Canon 6D + 24-70 F2.8 Mk2 + 430EXII
2) Nikon equivalent of the above

full frame body + 24-70 + 50/1.4 + flash (highest GN you can afford).

or

apsc body + 16-50 + 35/1.8

couple of spare batteries.

p/s: this is just the 'starter pack'

Hmmmm curious.

understand the lowlight on f2.8

But usually shooting for still shot, it doesnt affect much cause you got flash.

If you are saying indoor + filming video. f2.8 is ideal, however i dont see the why choose f2.8 over f4 with price point almost double if you are just shooting still

Maybe i am wrong??

You'll need to increase your budget if you want wide angle lens as well..
Unless you don't mind going for a slightly lower range lens on cropped body:
Canon 80D + 10-16mm + 17-55 f2.8 + 430exIII

You can get the above slightly above 10k new

or replace the 17-55 with 18-135 for below 8k total, but lose the f2.8

Wide-angle for weddings - they can produce quite some nice composition but you won't be using it much so it would be DLC. : (get it?)

As what lwliam said - starter pack.

A good starter combo would be stuff like Canon EOS 70D + 17-40 F4L + 70-200 F4L + 1 flash unit, get a Canon unit with as high a GN as you can afford.

EOS 70D would provide far better AFing than many camera models out there.

Different people have different preference... probably can start with just one mid zoom.. the more u shoot the more u will realize your "sweet" focal length thus the lens u need.

For me , I love 16-35mm F4L VR (Just purchased 2nd hand) & 85mm lens. I Owned canon 16-35 before.

Cause your job at wedding is to capture the wedding not landscape. Not saying ultra wide in wedding is useless if you have creative mind but if given the budget, I would rather go for conventional focal lens first.

good sir.

D810 is good enough unless you want a high end crop which is d500.

Full Frame body+ 24-70 F/2.8 + a proper flash is all you need, but finding all these brand new with 10k is insufficient

DSLR with good dynamic range. (FF or HF)
17-40mm,24-70mm,70-200mm

Genuine Speedlite Flash (one is enough)
Slave for portable flash angle.

You're done.
All you need now is subscribe KelbyOne or CreativeLive online class to understand the fundamentalism of Wedding Photography. You can pay monthly and it's reasonable.

That's an excellent setup, just get yourself a flash and you're good to go.
