My Compaq notebook failed me again for the 2nd time. The first time that I send into HP service centre, the motherboard was change.
Now, just before CNY, I send my notebook in again (becos cannot boot at all) for them to check what is the damn prob again.
And today, I called to check on the status....they told me that the motherboard is most prob the problem again...OMG..and it seems now I will have to pay for the damn replacement as it is out off warranty!!

So..to those that have bought Compaq notebook...be prepared for such problems..which I think is quite common with this brand. How I wish I had bought the NEC notebook instead.....

do u noe where i can get the disassemble manual book for compaq v3k?il like to open up the whole lappie with the help of some graphic instruction guide. i google b4,fail.

2nd time isn't lucky...and the motherboard have been changed before. What peeve me is that they are gonna charge me for a manufacturing defects which was proven in the first repair done in late July last year. Wherether I will proceed with the repair will depend on the how much they want to charge me.

By the way..I am using the AMD model V3010...I think...

Well guesss what..the HP service centre call me today (on a Saturday)..and told me that the prob was a defective motherboard again..geessshhh!!! No wonder they are selling it at such a low price!! Instead of updating me on the status of my notebook..they have the nerve to ask for the password to my HDD..That kind of lit the fuse to the bomb...
I told him off and said that I dont give password to anyone and if they want to test my notebook...I want to be there!! And further more I told the guy on the phone that I have not even received any qoutation or prices for the needed repairs or have my consent to proceed with the replacement..so what the @#$* are they doing!! And then he told me that there will be no charges for the repairs..so let see what happens on Monday when I go to get my notebook.

Will update u guys...I hope that anyone else that have such probs..do share their experience here with the other members. As consumer, we should not let big corp. like HP get the better of us...

This will be the last Compaq I will ever buy from now on...will stick to brands like NEC,Sony,IBM...pay a little more but peace of mind.

btw, a few of my friends using this laptop oso experienced the same thing, replace board need to pay....... one of them said that the price is rm10XX i think, which he din agree and din replace.

anyone has the V3000 acpi module, i wanna try to control the system using NHC.

also, has anyone tried underclocking geforce go 6150, I cant chage the clock setting, it seems that the laptop won't let me alter the GPU speed setting. I use atitool 0.26.

When my mobo was changed last year in July..I thought hey, my problems are over...but just days before the CNY holidays...the unthinkable happens...my notebook refuse to boot up. ..but there signs already before the big crunch. The notebook ..twice did not boot up but when I switch off and on again...it started. I already know what was coming next. I did not send it in to HP becos they will just waste yr time and check a little and tell u there is nothing wrong. You will have to wait for it to KAPUT then u send it in. Took them like 3 weeks to get it done...geeeshhh.

v3000 series geforce card for amd turionx2 mobo is only 'CLIPPED' on the board with 'FIBER PVC' clippers.it is not WIRED on the board permanently.so when mobo burns, it means the clippers melt and spoilt the board trials.To solve the prob u got 3 ways:
1. dont play heaty games with high reso..such as DOTA(imagine mainting 80C for 1 hour daily)
2. get the graphic card wired permanently.of coz u have to DIY.
3. get another brand afterall.coz v3k series seems do not keep u satisfied.

u buy the wring system for metal stuff.the bijih timah thingy..pateri pateri it la.haha.i oso duno.even open the lappie oso tak pandai.that day ants went into my lappie.damn alot.i buka all the screws behind.around 20 screws but still cant open the cover.haha.

lol.i rarely play dota lah.cs oso.but often play pes 6.but even if im not playing games the temp is 55-60C. if play mp3 or watch movie 60++. Siu Yi how bout ur laptop temp?is it the same around my temp? owh and how long has it been since u changed ur mobo?

got a fren working in HP waranty centre as internship.he told me.haha.if only u can find the manual for disassembling the lappie then i can try it out.i only noe acer lappies got this kind of manual online,but v3k series i google ntg.

HDD temp is low bcoz i open the cover n put fan direct to it..

This is when im using 512mb ram n set GC to 64mb..

When using 2G+512mb n set GC to 128mb, idle would be around 91.. playing CS will be 118+..

just waiting this fool burning the go to SC to claim.. 
p/s: if i sent to SC to checkup.. how long it gonna take? if send to branch (other than HP tower) it will be longer?

my control panel shows me that no device for sound, what did i missed? is it driver, i installed both modem and the driver...

owh..didn't thought about the GC memory. should reduce it lah next time i boot up   im using v3133AU 2gb RAM.my HDD temp is always high.n always higher than the CPU temp.

hm im not under warranty anymore.it's over last month.so if mobo burned down need to pay ler.mobo can cost around rm800 or so.

my fren called the CS.they mentioned that ur mobo will get another extended waranty for free if it burns up like the normal prob.do call the service centre to noe more.

I am around lah bro...reading the post. Only reply when I can contribute to the topic discussed...

Anyway, syiafuku have been in contact with me and I have given him some answer to his questions..which I hope will help him.

To answer why HP have not dare charge me for the replacement of the mobo..reasons are;

1) My mobo failed just after 3 months I bought the notebook and they hav replaced it FOC becoz it was still in the warranty period.
    This was the silver lining behind the clouds as they might say.. and it helps in my recent claims. ( I had take 4 trips to the service centre)

2) When I send in the notebook on the 5th Feb 2008 I have inform the service consultant that if the diagnose prob is the mobo, HP have changed the mobo last year under warranty and I will not pay for the replacement as this will be deem as a design or manufacturing defect.

As my first repair record is in their database system...they cannot deny that they screwed up....

So..the only question for Syiafuku is..have yr mobo been replaced before during the valid warranty period. If YES..then they cannot and will not charge you a single cent..( I did not pay a single cent...and they are kind enough to pay for my parking too.. )

If this is the first time yr mobo have failed...then they will argue that yr warranty is over and they will likely to charge you for it.
That is why..since you have told me that you have friends that have the same mobo issue...why not get them together with you and go see the managment of the HP service dept and demand a FOC replacement. And I think..all the members here that faced the same prob should get together and do something about it...WE ARE ALL CUSTOMER of HP...and we have our rights as consumers!!

I understand the feeling of frustration that Syiafuku..finding out that the notebook does not work properly after forking out RM3K of our hard earned money!!!.....

so next time if got problem, can i send in again like ur case if my warranty is over?  That I do not know..it is better u check with the SC.

I think u got that pricing wrong... they did tell me that it cost more than RM1K for the mobo excluding labor charges...min charges will be RM95 for nothing done if the notebook is not under warranty.. So just pray that yr notebook does not have the same prob we are having..

so it seems now that if your laptop previously had been repaired during warranty and it failed after warranty , then only will be FOC.

after searching around the net and some experiments, I had undervolt my amd processor at speed of 1.60Ghz form 1.075V ---> 1.025V using RMclock, the temperature during gaming such as NFS : Carbon is around ~58 celcius. Has anyone undervolt their processor? if yes, any other tweaks that can be made?

but the geforce go 6150 still refuse to underclock after using various programs. Has anyone did it? Please teach.Thanks.
