Wow so much talk now on overprovisioning etc.

I dropped Unifi when I moved houses and got Astro IPTV with 10Mbps.
From Unifi 5Mbps to 10 with 30 hours free boost up to 50Mbps - I was blown away.
Then I canceled astro and settled for 20Mbps from Time.
Within 2 months I now get 100Mbps (out of supposed 300 from my ZTE stock router on LAN).

Now I am paying the same I ever did - which was RM179. To get a consistent 5x speed boost  over what I paid for, with kids on youtube, wife on netflix and I can iflix at the same time...I dunno. I'm okay with it.

I'll upgrade my router later - but coming from Jaring, TMnet, streamyx, unifi and now TIME, i can tell you consistency wins every time.
*
Aha, I feel the same way. When I first signed up with Time, I tried the RM129 8Mb plan. Was blown away by how much consistently speedier Time was than my RM140 4Mb streamyx. Went to RM179 15Mb, then tried the RM179 100Mb. Finally settled on RM249 50Mb which is now 500Mb!!

Am getting 470-480 Mbps if directly connected to my Asus router. Way way more than the 50Mb I initially paid for. Concurrent Netflix HD, youtube HD (wife and son on their own devices) and Bittorrent downloads with oodles of internet bandwidth to spare. Not getting 500Mb per Time's plan but I'm not complaining.. rclxm9.gif

you are right we are also not paying their full rate. be thankful.
*
It's up to the individual though, no right or wrong here. If a consumer is not happy, he/she has the right to ask for clarification and support from the provider.

As for me, I expect Time to provide me at least 85-90% of their advertised speed. So far so good. thumbsup.gif

Also, I don't realistically demand full speed connection to everwhere. I don't really know if Time can even guarantee full speed to every internet server in the world. Lots more factors at play here.

There's all this talk about accepting and being thankful about what we get. This is the reason why we're firmly stuck in the second or even third world.
*
I don't think it's so much about being thankful and accepting. More about setting my own expectation more realistically. Not even Google Fiber in the US gives users actual 1024 megabits per second as advertised, I believe.

some sharing on WIFI AC... I tried the TPLINK T4u, found out that the speed can go > 220mbps/200mbps with no prob, just maybe DC...(driver issue)

For Asus PCE-68, it will connect at 280mbps/300 and it will drop to 100mbps.... ( still driver issue!)

So, better use LAN cable...
*
I'm using tp-link t4uh with my win10 pc (usb 2.0 only) in my study room. 1 wall and at least 8m away from my ac68u router. No random disconnects, consistent at least 200mb up and down. Cable will definitely be better but not practical for me.. Happy so far, it was a simple rm130 dongle solution. smile.gif

Agree, we have to be realistic. Afterall, we're not paying enterprise-price for some 99.99% uptime SLA/SLG.

My own expectation for Time's fibre is 90-95% of the advertised speed. And after seeing quite a few people in Lowyat forum claiming to reach speeds of 100+, 300+ and 500+, makes me even more convinced I should not settle down for 70% average.
*
Agree with you. 70% of advertised rate on a wired connection is poor.

IMO, between AC1750 and AC1900, AC1900 is pointless. Both support AC1300, difference is that AC1750 supports N 450, while AC1900 supports N 600. Common devices rarely are N600 capable and in real life, N450 and N600 has no obvious difference. Besides, in the future you would be using AC band instead of N.
*
Valid points. However most if not all AC1900 routers have dual core SoCs vs AC1750 routers. I'd recommend a more future proof device if one can stretch one's budget for it, especially since most people don't upgrade routers very often.

I think you should change it.

Bro, you know anyone in Malaysia selling AV2000 homeplugs? My AV600 units are good enough to give me 180-200Mbps speedtest results with my 500Mbps connection, but am looking for an upgrade.

it depends on ur surrounded adapter, extension also got effect, house electric wire also got effect.
*
Yes, I understand that. Don't use extensions or power strips at home, all points straight to the wall socket. Even side by side, I get 330Mbps on the TP-Link utility, and 200Mbps via internet speedtest.

I know AV1200 is available locally, but AV2000 would be sweeter.

Grrr. It means the same thing. Astro should do it for their customers.  ranting.gif This is unacceptable. And Time should understand that it is vital to maintain across the board services.
*
For all we know, Time could have offered the same speed 'upgrades' to Astro, at a price. And Astro may have said no to Time.

Thanks to you and all the rest.
It is more towards why test using Win 10 and Win XP has huge diff on the dl side and yet the upload side is near the same.
Thus, back to original question , is OS play a role here ? Some replied that age of hardware and LAN cable (lenght, aged) etc does play a role...

But why it only affect the download side, this is the main question....well, need to ask her IT guy to study the config again, or anything that limit the dl speed for that particular PC or firewall of that PC limited the dl speed, etc....
*
Are you testing 2 different OS on the same physical hardware? If not, then many things can impact the result, as others have mentioned.

Nope. Win XP is old PC ; Win 10 is new notebook.
But still back to question, why on Win XP the upload is near max (45-47Mbps), but download is only 8-9 Mbs ?
*
Maybe cable, maybe network card issue, or driver issue, or OS issue, or...

The speed is mostly accurate on LAN. 480 - 500Mbps.
*
Yep that's my experience too. On gigabit LAN I can easily get 480-500mbps Speedtest results to KL server.

Can get 250-350 on wifi AC1900 if in the same room. 150-250 on same wifi in other rooms of my condo.

You may upgrade to AC5300 or AC 3200 if you need more accurate on Wi-Fi.

However, speed not accurate on Wi-Fi ( One of the main problem )
*
Maybe in future. For now I am happy to have multiple wifi devices enjoying the high speed wifi of AC1900. smile.gif

Great, too sad for me, all devices unable to support AC.

All until Wireless N only.
*
Step by step bro. AC on 5ghz is good but range still poorer than N on 2.4ghz.

For any kind soul on time..would it be possible to try speedtest to this site..

Netflix speedtest

This is netflix speedtest and it's only download speedtest. Curious what speeds time owners get on a 100Mbps line.

On unifi 100Mbps I get average about 55-70Mbps
*
I am on Time's 500Mbps package, using my own AC1900 router.

From my PC with an AC1200 USB3 wifi adapter (5Ghz), I am getting the speedtest results below.

No problems watching 2 Netflix HD streams with a couple more concurrent Youtube HD videos. Not complaining other than hoping that the monthly rate would be lower than RM249 whistling.gif

How much do u get if u using Lan for speedtest?
*
No idea. Can't really test LAN, I have no wired devices/computers at home.

A few months ago, I did try using a gigabit cable from a laptop to my router to do some speed tests, managed to get 480-500Mbps, if I remember correctly.

Google DNS seem to be down or blocked. Can't ping 8.8.8.8 and 8.8.4.4.

Used alternatives from http://pcsupport.about.com/od/tipstricks/a...dns-servers.htm and internet is back up.

woah  blink.gif  the prices for both of these.....

The Asus RT-AC68U works superbly at home for me. I live in a 1.2k sqf condo and 2.4GHz is powerful all over. 5GHz quite strong in my rooms except the back storeroom and the balconies, I think.

In fact, I can still get 50Mbps up and down outside the lift lobby (20m away from my front door).

Haven't tried the TP-Link AC3200 before though.

laugh.gif those are like commercial/industrial quality right =O they are priced within the RM800 - RM1,000.00 region =O
*
Not sure if they are commercial or industry-grade products, but I'm happy with my investment. Stable, speedy, wide coverage, worry-free.

Probably don't need to worry about my home internet infrastructure for 3-5 years biggrin.gif
