Not interested at the moment, they're saying the cost of setting up the infrastructure is high. Hopefully, they'll review it and approve for deployment this year.  notworthy.gif

What is the fastest Streamyx you can get now? I heard they are launching VDSL 2 vectoring soon.

QUOTE(pigduck @ Mar 6 2017, 01:05 AM)
So I see based on the last few posts that I should either invest in

Tenda AC15
TP Link Archer C9

I bought the D-Link DAP 1665 Access Point and it's horrible as a range extender. It only manages 6mbps and even then it is weak. I tried it as an Access Point but range was very short for both bands.

I need one with very good range. My current setup is the DIR-850L as the main router (terribly weak) and my Access Point is the RT-N18U which has excellent range but it means for one part of my house, I do not have 5ghz and that's a bummer so although I get ~40mbps on 2.4ghz, I would still like to get 5ghz throughout my house. I tried using an old dual band router I had but the range was weak too. Couldn't muster anything above 30mbps for 5ghz or reach the area where the RT-N18U 2.4ghz could reach powerfully.

So either I get 2 x Tenda AC15 (one as the main and the other as an access point) - or I buy 1 x TP Link Archer C9 and continue using my Asus RT-N18u as my access point -

Also I fiddled with the channels, fixing my access point SSID channel and that helped speed things up too - avoided congestion with other wireless networks nearby - so many near me so I think I would like, if possible, to have all my devices (most) on 5ghz if possible.

Advice please!

I used to use a Tenda range extender - thought it wasn't the greatest 'cos it would just slow down and give issues.

Are there other routers suggested in this thread that I should use?

Wireless repeaters are terrible. In order to get great performance, they need to have excellent signal to the main router first.

I am currently rocking powerline access points, 50Mbps throughput with a AV500 unit. smile.gif

Erm my internet didn't disconnect.
It was purely on my desktop which connected to LAN, my WiFi still working good.

It just somehow turn off and turning on again.

I didn't upgrade firmware before.

Just got my TIME 100MB installed 3 days ago.
So far speed looks good. Hopefully it's stable.

Just that I get weak performance in my master bedroom, like 20-30MB only..
It's because of the router?
*
The typical performance for wireless at longer distance is about this. You can try getting a better router and placing your router higher to avoid obstruction.

Unifi is offering 100Mbps for residential consumer now. I believe Time will step up their game. brows.gif

My prediction:
100Mbps to 300Mbps
300Mbps to 500Mbps
500Mbps to 1Gbps

Most consumer devices can't even handle 300Mbps on wireless and most people are using wireless nowadays. Power users will benefit the most on this. laugh.gif

1Gbps. Need to use Wireless AD7200.
*
I am testing an AD7200 now. Yes, it is amazing IF you have a 60Ghz capable device. But do you?

There's not a single compatible device I can find in Malaysia and I don't want to mention the range of 60Ghz. laugh.gif

Nonetheless, the AD7200 is a great router.

QUOTE(tritonite @ Mar 21 2017, 04:15 PM)
The sad and honest truth is that, as a society, Malaysia is not ready for Gigabit internet.

As has been shown numerous times in this thread, Malaysians are way too quick to blame the ISP when performance is not what they expect. When in truth, it's usually down to bad wireless topography, inadequate hardware capability and general ignorance about how to manage expectations when it comes to connectivity to foreign servers.
*
That's exactly what happen with Malaysian consumers, ISP is blamed no matter what. However, you got to start with something and educate the consumers, that's how SG get 1Gbps now.

At least we have MYIX now so we can stream Youtube at 4K. laugh.gif

pigduck Good luck getting good performance with wireless repeaters unless you place it really near to your main router. I am talking about 30Mbps. Placing the repeater so close with the main router is counter-intuitive anyway.

Never use 5Ghz for backhaul as the range for 5Ghz is already terrible enough. However, 2.4Ghz is really congested so the link will be unstable.

The best way for home wireless expansion when Ethernet is not a choice will be powerline. I find it to be the most reliable and it performs the best.

I switched from unifi to TIME
Can Time use router that is provided by unifi?

Unifi, I used stock router and the speed and signal is stable,
although 10Mbps only but stable UL/DL speed, can cover the whole house full bar signal.
channel 11, 20Mhz, g/n, 2.4Ghz

TIME provides me with 850L Dlink
although 100 Mbps advertised speed,
wifi only about 50Mbps next to router,
go about 10 feet away drop to 20-30 Mbps signal 3 bars
in room 2 bar, speed only 1-2Mbps

really have to spend extra and get good router?
why TIME no give better router?
*
The router support 100Mbps, tried and tested. But your device may not. whistling.gif

Here are some summarised tips for you. Make sure you are able to achieve 100Mbps over wired first.

Suggested Config: For 2.4Ghz, use 20Mhz only, 40Mhz make things worst at a highly congested location. Stick with channel 1,6 or 11 as those are non-overlapping. Use 5Ghz whenever possible.

Equipment Upgrade: Get a better router with better signal strength, even the Asus RT-AC1200 is much better than the DIR-850L. The position of a router matters. Ensure your router is not placed in an enclosed place. If possible, place it at a higher position and in the middle of the house.

Never use a powerline from the BTU to the router. You want the connection from the BTU to the router to be as stable as possible. If a new router and better positioning couldn't solve the issue, get a powerline wireless access point, go for TP-LINK, they are the best powerline manufacturer.

You should be able to get 20-30Mbps for your entire home with this.

Edit: The DIR-850L is totally capable of delivering 100Mbps over Wireless AC 5Ghz but the signal strength is poor.

I'm currently using a wifi adapter (TL-WN823N) which support up to 300Mbps. My built in wifi not really compatible with my current OS so I had to use the adapter.

I found this one router, Tenda AC1200 iirc, but they just support fast ethernet only.  dry.gif
What's the estimated budget for gigabit router ya? Does Dlink router offered by Time good?
Btw, I saw lots of people suggested TP-Link Archer C9 but its quite expensive.  bangwall.gif

Get Asus RT-C1200G+ and a TP-LINK wireless AC capable USB adapter. Pretty good combo. Can consider the Archer C7 as well.

If you are hardcore, change the wireless card in your laptop.

Hi,

I am subscribed to a 100mbps connection but during the weekends mostly on afternoon to evening, im getting a wireless connection of 5Mbps. The router that I am using is LINKSYS E1200 N300 this is the router they have provided 2 years ago. No problem with wired connection as Im getting around 92-95Mbps with it.

Now, do I need to change my router? Cable? If yes, any recommendations on a not very expensive router?

Get a wireless AC capable router to enjoy the fast speed but please make sure your devices are wireless AC compatible.

A quick comparison of 2.4Ghz and 5Ghz.
Use 5Ghz whenever possible to enjoy the higher performance provided that your devices support Wireless AC as well. Only use 2.4Ghz if you need the range.

The difference between a high end router and a lower range router is the signal strength and signal quality. A cheap router is unable to sustain a high performance when the signal is low. All wireless AC routers should be able to deliver full 100Mbps when you are standing in front of the router.

Both tested at the same location, around 5m from the router, separated by a brick wall. Router: TP-LINK AD7200

anyone using tp-link TL-ER604W with time BB 300 mbps here? im having internet speed cap up to 140 mbps giga Ethernet connection by connecting with router. but once connect direct with pc broadband dial up, it can go up to 300 mbps. appreciate someone could help. thanks!

It is already stated in the spec sheet in which is maximum NAT throughput is 160Mbps. You can try and disable the firewall feature but I doubt it will improve the situation.
