have your try asking CS to reset port maybe? who knows when they reset and changing ip the speed will come back  smile.gif

Probably won't work.

It just sounds like TM have stopped over-provisioning now that there are significantly more people on the higher-end packages.

really? even my bandwidth only gain 98Mbps max...never reach out of 98Mbps...average 94-96Mbps.
*
I believe that was when the ports were previously set as 120Mbps, so that with overheads/etc, you still got something close to 100Mbps, and sometimes over for the lucky few.

It's probably back down to 100Mbps now, and with overheads/etc, and you are seeing 'best effort' of just over 90Mbps.

this few days I think because of school holiday the internet abit slowing down....the speed only 86-88Mbps. not even on the "best offort" level. waiting them to reset it
*
Is that 86-88Mbps the Speedtest reading from just one local server location, or an average from the 3-4 locations of the closest servers to you?

Anyone here know how to get the UniFi pppoe password from TM's L7-N-R2000 router?

Usual methods I tried (right click view source, set field as text) don't work. I mean I can see the password but it's a 10-char password instead of the usual 13-char password. Tried the password on another router and it didn't work.
*
Just call the Unifi helpline at 100 and tell them you are setting up a new router. They will tell you your account's Unifi password.

The unifi account is under my tenant's name. Already called 100 but I don't have the credentials for verification with 100 to obtain or reset the password. Unfortunately he is incognito at the moment. Will be planning to visit TMPoint on Monday but, if possible, hoping to extract the password the L7 router so I can use it this weekend.
*
Hmm, I see the problem.

Usually all the want for verification is the account holder's mobile number and/or usual method of payment, and more rarely, the account holder's NRIC number. Since it's your tenant, I would have thought you had at least that much info about him.

I have his name, IC no, mobile no, unifi username, unifi tel no but still cannot get pass 100 verification. 100 not willing to say why but I think could be registered under a different person. Looked through his old mail for a Unifi bill but didn't find any.
*
It is likely he has accumulated several months of unpaid Unifi bills, it will explain the reluctance of 100 to assist you. If that is the case, it's probably no use you wasting time and parking money going to TMpoint, especially since you are not the account holder.

If your tenant is already a 'gone case', the best you can do is prove you are the landlord of the property, apply to terminate and 'free up' the address, so to speak. Don't want to have the address blacklisted for future applications.

Try power cycling your modem/BTU onto a different IP prefix, and see if it makes a difference.

Ping a local server, a regional (Singapore, HK or China) one, and then an international (US, UK or EU) one.

Probably a routing issue. Something TM is notorious for.

Using 2750E for my streamyx.

DIL 8500 is from TM for unifi customer or the router you wish to buy for your unifi? I am confused.
*
The DIR-850L will be provided if you are a new Unifi subscriber. Existing subscribers also have the option of buying it to replace their existing router.

HOWEVER, bear in mind there's no guarantee you will get the DIR-850L even if you are a new subscriber, especially if you live in a semi-rural area with a low uptake of Unifi, and where they may still have stock of older routers. Unifi is obliged to give you a router, not a specific router of your choice or preference. If you are unhappy about that, there's always the option of going out and getting yourself a better router.

correct...I've lodge a report coz the intermittent o the wifi issue...hope they will change the router to the new model...if not..have to buy it myself..
*
Yes, that is how a lot of people try to 'force' them to provide the new model... and it works most of the time in urban, high-penetration areas.

However, in less urban areas, they will just keep replacing it with another unit of the same older model, primarily because they have so many more left in stock to go through, but also frequently because they really don't have the DIR-850L available in their stockroom to replace it with.

All that said, the DIR-850L does seem to be the best router so far that TM has provided. It's also the default router TIME provides for their Fibre Broadband service. It's not the best router available, but for value-for-money in that price range, it is right up there with the TP-LINK Archer C2.

anybody know what is the credit limit means ?
today morning I just received an email from TM, said my credit limit has been increase to RM 5XX
my bill is paid monthly RM 149 (without gst), RM 157.94 (gst)

what does it means ?? anybody can explain ?
*
The credit limit is usually set at around 4x your monthly subscription.

What this means, in theory, is that TM will allow you to be in arrears - i.e. 'hutang' - for 4 months. After which, they can suspend your Unifi service and take legal action to reclaim what you owe to them.

However, in practice, I've heard of people owing over 8 months worth of subscription, and nothing happening. Of course, if you get that far behind in paying, just don't expect things like free upgrade from VIP5 to VIP10, and then claim it's unfair when you are excluded. wink.gif

guys...

wanna back related to modem again...

my wifi having stability issues (have to restart the router, then ok)...wired is ok...is it worth the money to buy the dlink 850L ? or should i get an Asus?
*
From a value-of-money point of view, the DIR-850L is good, but so is the Archer C2, which I understand has a better wifi range. Both of which are cheaper than an equivalent Asus. Sure, the Asus may have more features and functions, but are you really going to make full use of them?

And since you appear not to know the difference between the modem and the router, I assume you are not very tech savvy. As such, are you sure you are up to the task of setting up a new router from the ground up if you buy one?

haha...sorry...its a router...yeah i'm capable of setting up the unifi..

but for my requirement...apartment...desktop using wired...so..wifi is basically for my laptop and mobile phones..

the main reason i want to replace is keep on getting dropped connection on the WiFi side..
*
Well, in that case, if the wifi coverage and features of your current router is adequate, have you considered doing a factory reset and fresh setup, and see if the wifi drop issue goes away? May just save you the RM200+ for getting a new router.

yeah...i've done that..

besides...i'm using the non overlapping channels for the wifi...its safe to say that 've to reboot the router once in every 3 days...

can i have the stability and reliability from the new router..
*
Well, if your current router is an already quite old one like a DIR-615, then there's a very good chance a new one will be a step in the right direction. However, you may need to look into getting the right firmware before you can get the stability and reliability that you are happy with. That said, a lot of people are quite happy with how one works right out of the box.

I asked 100 about this and they said that it's your monthly credit limit. That means in 1 month, your monthly bill + calls + VOD you buy on HyppTV cannot exceed the RM5xx limit.

It's not a credit limit for your monthly bills. Doesn't mean that you can owe TM 3 months (RM473.82).

I tried it before, missed one month bill and got my Unifi disconnected straight away.

And of course, this contradicts what tritonite said. Give it a try and let us know. TM can be quite inconsistent sometimes.
*
If there's something I've learned from all these years of being subscribed to their internet service, from dial-up, through Streamyx and then to Unifi, is that even TM personnel themselves can't agree on things even amongst themselves.

My explanation, which I will concede was a bit simplistic since I omitted to include other charges like calls and HyppTV VOD, was the one I got from the TMpoint over-the-counter person when I asked all those years back when I went from Streamyx to Unifi. It is entirely possible that they may have 'moved the goalposts', so to speak, since then.

That said, I've been a saint and have never been late on my payments innocent.gif, so I've not been in a position to test the limits.

Interesting rumour I heard today during my regular weekend breakfast session with my 'xiong di'.

Apparently, there is an agent (not TM themselves) going around the Bukit Damansara, Seri Hartamas and Mont Kiara areas offering RM30 discounts off the Advance 50 and Advance Pro 100 packages for 3 years, BUT only if they sign up in groups of 3 or more.

Can anyone living in those or similarly affluent areas corroborate this?

Wonder if this is a sign of things to come.

Guys, just a side question since we are on the subject of routers.

Where do you guys place your routers? Is it harmful to place it near you?

As I am using a desktop, my router (RT-N18U) which is quite high powered is quite near me. Furthermore, my room is pretty small.

So I'm wondering whether its harmful to your health long term if such a high powered router is placed near you.
*
From a radiation emission point of view, a router in close proximity is probably less harmful than that monitor you are sitting in front of, or that smartphone sitting on your desk or in your pocket.

This is the speed im getting, im subscribed to Advance 30 and my current router is the DIR-615. Should I complain?
*
Ummm, that looks like a speedtest reading taken from a smartphone via wifi.

It's best to provide a reading from a PC or laptop connected via a physical connection to the router using a LAN cable and prove it's the same.

If you are getting 24Mbps+ via the LAN port, I am afraid TM is not obliged to do anything since a wifi connection is so subjective, especially since your DIR-615 is aging.

Know what if my speed is that low, I will act stupid and let TM come and fix it. Insist that the router has issue, force them to change for me. Oh well, if only my speed gets that low... laugh.gif
*
The thing is that a low speedtest reading can be forced and faked, and TM, especially in urban areas, have wised up to it.

Once they talk you through the process of doing a LAN cable connection speedtest through the phone, they've pretty much covered their behinds.

You could insist on a technician showing up, and as soon as he plugs his laptop into a LAN port of your router and gets a speedtest reading to their server that is within the best effort 85%, they can and probably will charge you the RM50 'wasting their time' fee.

Do it often enough, and they go into 'cry wolf' mode and stop taking you seriously after that.
