And the 6D Mark II is out!!
At USD1,999 price is a bit high but expected. Probably 2x the value of my 6D if I wanna trade-in/sell to upgrade.

im more excited of the SL2/ 200D, the dual pixel AF/ articulated screen, 1080/60p and the small body make it a perfect little camera for videography.

it kinda defeats the purpose of having the EOS M6/M5 though hmm.gif

80d AF system, 77d sensor, much smaller body, wifi bluetooth and tilt screen...aside from the slow burst rate for action. Why would anyone get a 80D now? laugh.gif

Even the 60p full hd video blows the much expensive 70D out of the water.

nono, it is still using the ancient 9 point focus system. but everything else is pretty much 77d/800d level. canon is really squeezing as many features as they can into their recent offerings, especially the entry level models, quite surprising when compared to what they are doing a few years ago.

the sl2 has really good specs (if you ignore the small viewfinder with the basic AF system and shoot purely in liveview) and it is still quite affordable compared to the recent mirrorless cameras which keep getting more and more expensive.

I guess for someone starting out, it's a good option. As canon lenses are plentiful and not bad.
Canon Dual pixel AF system is pretty damn awesome. That's pretty much my favourite feature in the recent canon DSLR line.

But mirrorless cameras are still a lot more portable and most of them have a lot more features
It's kinda a different market. These days, most youtube vloggers would rather lug a mirrorless than a DSLR.
*
exactly, canon have plenty of affordable lenses for newer users. the main thing stopping me from getting a mirrorless is the ridiculous pricing of its lenses, being it Sony/ Fuji or m4/3. and pro lenses for mirrorless aren't that much smaller/ lighter too.

QUOTE(sp6068 @ Jun 30 2017, 05:20 PM)
Now that canon has released the 200D, I'm stuck between getting this or the A6000 for general shooting so that I can retire my ancient 1000D.

But then price wise dunno apa cerita for the 200D. Canon US is stating $699 in translation thats almost rm3k

A6000 brand new 2.1k. Hmmm
*
the price would be under or around rm2.5k i think, and then it will goes down gradually quite soon.

Gonna be jumping from EOS80D to the EOS 6D Mark II. Gonna join the full frame family soon.

The above. smile.gif In fact want to talk IQ, APS-C still can beat FF ............ ..that is, if you know which APS-C that is. biggrin.gif

Jumping from 60D to D750, I saw my success rate got a lot better for wedding photos but it wasn't whether it's APS-C or FF but it was due to the upgrade in AF system.
*
after comparing my 5d II and my friend's 80D (not the fairest comparison i know, since 5dii is much cheaper nowadays), i would gladly trade my 5d ii for 80d. the newer AF / responsiveness of the 80d simply outweighs the larger sensor. what's the point of a bigger sensor when you can't focus quick enough. cry.gif

Hi guys,  need an opinion between this 2 lens

16-35mm f2.8 II or f4

Own gears

24-70mm f2.8 and 70-200mm f2.8

Body 5D Mark III

Mostly shooting for event.
*
based on my experience with the 16-35mm f2.8 II, the corners are quite smudgy at 16mm @ f2.8. Unless you shoot a lot of indoor/ lowlight, I would suggest the f4 instead, IS is so handy and its a cheaper/ smaller/ lighter lens to carry around too.

Carrying 5D II + 24-70 f2.8 for street photography is so tiring but the results are awesome tongue.gif

kampar, perak.

such a nice place for street photography compared to KL, you can walk around with your cameras safely since most people here are senior citizens.

Oh my... Canon you really shot yourself in the foot if this is really true...
6DII with worse dynamic range even compared to APS-C

https://www.dpreview.com/articles/341615369...i-dynamic-range
*
having a really bad dynamic range seems to be "canon tradition", all of canon dslrs suffered from banding the moment you tried to pull up the exposure/ lift the shadows. tongue.gif

I thought there would still be some hope for Canon since the 80D and 5D4 new sensor performed better than their predecessors... but it's unthinkable that a new FF dynamic range is worse than a APS-C and even it's 5 year old predecessor!! lol

On the positive side, I get to save my money and stay with my oldie 6D lol
*
I tried 80D before, its improved but still not great. didn't perform any scientific test but based on my observation it is roughly on par with my ancient nikon d7000.

Its really unusual that canon decided to use worse sensor on the 6D II compared to 5D IV as previously when 6D came out, it had marginally better high ISO performance than 5D III which is impressive.

Canon is one funny brand nowadays.

Say 6D2 is for photographers but
- DR not as good as lower models
- no dual SD card (eh take photo backup very important leh)
*
6D2 is the worst recent product from canon, the apsc lineups are quite impressive though (800d/ 77d/ 80d/ 200d).

77D also bad actually, a lot of things lacking even though it's 2 digit series.
*
77D is basically a shrink down or "lite" version of 80D i think? but the price is a little on the high side though.

Guys, using 6D, but i had none lens atm. would u guys recommend between used 35mm art sigma or used 24-70L M1?
*
it depends on your shooting style, when i first got my 5d2 i had 3 prime lenses (24, 50 and 85). but i end up trading all of them for a 24-70mm, having a zoom lens makes life so much easier.

^ i am this type also.

For me primes is for certain shoots where I want the focal length to be constant and without barrel distortion.

If not then it's zoom, I won't be needing f/1.4 or f/1.8 anyway. f/2.8 or even f/4 all the way is fine for me.
*

i owned a lot of primes (24mm, 28mm, 50mm x3, 85mm, 150mm) and although the IQ of these primes are really good (not to forget the f1.4/f1.8/f2.8), i always struggled with primes for general shooting (other than macro which will be 100% prime lens only), zoom lenses allow me to shoot so much faster and efficient.

Between an used 5d mark III and a new 6d mark II, which one you guy will go after?

i would choose 5D iii, due to the better AF system.

Nikon j 1 inch sensor.  Any point when there are very good pns cameras with 1 inch sensor?  Sony rx100 series still kicking ass.  Rx100's or rx10's built in lens looks better than all of Nikon J' s changeable lenses.  Ouch really.

Eos M still sells with canon marketing.  Just like the canon 6d mk2 will sell.  People don't recommend them because they don't perform as good as competitors or underperform for its price.

Olympus is good but probably over shadowed by fujifilm.  Lumix got out of that shadow by having the gh5 being one of the best budget indie film making camera.

Sony and Fuji have just been bringing out good stuff to the mirrorless world.  And Sony seems to have the rudest fanboys.

Samsung would have also been with the top if they stayed.  NX1 sure stirred things up.  The doors were opening for them finally but they just left.
*
i remember reading somewhere that Canon eos M (the older version) was the best selling mirrorless in Japan for a few years, this shows how powerful Canon's marketing is.

QUOTE(adam_lss @ Aug 18 2017, 01:48 PM)
can hardly find any used items for Eos M la, this is the main reason putting me off for it...
*
i still have the EOS M (mk1) with the 22mm. really good camera to use when travelling, bought it for rm1.1k brand new few years ago so i cant complain tongue.gif

My Tamron 24-70mm seems to suffer from serious decentering. On certain telephoto focal lengths when focused to near infinity, the right side of the image is really soft and out of focus compared to the left.

The strange part is that this only happens when the focus is close to infinity. Guess I'll have to send the lens to Tamron for further inspection.
