Hi there! Thanks for the link. I searched for "string" just now and I only got the "LYN string family" thread, guess I missed a "s". Hehe.
But anyway, have browsed through your thread. We are looking for different thing. I'm just curious to find out which guitar strings do most of the guitarists (especially electric guitarists) here prefer. |

I used to be an Ernie Ball guy. Ernie Ball lasts long, it's not too high tension, and it is also cheap.
Then I swithed to D'addarios, great warm sound, even slinkier than Ernie Ball but doesn't last too long, and a bit more expensive than Ernie Ball. Recently switched back to Ernie Ball cause my RG already very warm di so the brighter Ernie Ball better at balancing the tone. D'addario is a bit too muddy with my RG. On the other hand, D'addario will be a good match for single coils. Should tame the harshness quite a bit. But the best strings I have tried so far is Dean Markeley Blues Steel. amazing strings. Sadly very expensive. Almost RM30 for a pack. |

At the moment, using the strings that came with the Jackson RR3 ..... don't feel like they need a change, so I don't change 'em yet. Besides...... after all the horror stories of the Floyd Rose.... I think I'll wait until my excessive Floyd Rose pyromaniacs snap a string thankyouverymuch.
Once that happens, will swap in D'addarios .009...... As for my Les Pauls.... using GHS Boomers, Zakk Wylde Signatures (what else!).... at 010, 013, 017, DY36, DY52, DY60..... yes. 60s. Freakin' thick..... but could get thicker (at 70!!) My Crap Strat still uses Ernie Ball .09s..... But once the big upgrade next year, will change them to .10 D'addario..... |

i find ernie balls much warmer than d'addarios in my SG's and LP.
the warmest sounding i have tried are the fender bullets, but those break very fast. |

Elixir Anti-Rust gauge 11. Not that they sound better than other brands, but because I really can't be bothered to change strings every month.

Me too using d'adarrios .095s .... not too thin, not too thick ... just nice for me. Fingers won't feel pain while forming a chord, power chord or some soloing ..... while that's when your fingers season cow cow

D addario or Ernie Ball... GHS rusts somewhat faster when I use them.

D'addarios! standard 9s for my strat and custom 10-56 (or was it 58) for my les paul. currently also on my taylor but thats coz i tak cukup duit. would be changing to elixir as soon as i get more money.
tried DR and also dean markley. tone wasnt really my type. ernie ball slinky tone just doesnt seem to go right with a les paul or strat. plus they wear out too easily and from my experience do break more often than d'addarios(which is smth i dont want to happen since i dont carry back up guitars to gigs). tried fender bullet on my strat once and i do agree it breaks way too easily. |

I've once started out by using those low E's 8 untill i've got some issues with the 8 not being able to scream...
At one time I've read somewhere that Hendrix once told some dude about strings and he replied...Nothing below 11's..(Its sissy strings he (hendrix) mentioned at the end of the phrase.. Brand nothing particular but always Earnie Ball and GHS...Sometimes Daddario also but not too offten..dont like the colored ballss....hehehhee This post has been edited by antonio: Dec 30 2006, 12:47 AM |

I tried .11s once.... but didn't find them comfortable bending on the higher strings. The ZWs worked out well because I always chug on the lower end, while "shred" *cough* *cough* on the higher strings.... so I get a nice balance.

Tried Fender strings before which came with my Stratocaster. Then changed to D'Addario strings for a year or so. Am now using DR strings. Love it!

previously using ernie ball, standard 0.09 on my strat copy. now changed to D'addario 0.09 for strat copy, 0.10 for LTD F-200. hmm.. i think it's time to try on something different now... =) |
