ya, I agree. UT is for long term, e.g 5 to 10 years in my opinion.

For me, my UT is my retirement fund, so I am doing DCA every month.
*
May i know......
How long have in been investing in ut?
What is the est IRR till now?

Cause I am thinking if we are holding the fund (there's no buy and sell transaction) and every year kena say annual charge of 1%, out returns already reduce by 1% already.
So let me get it straight. if the fund does not have extra charges other than the annual charges which are already factor into the NAV, we will not be deducted anything right?
*
There will also hv other charges beside the annual mgmt fees. Ex... trustee fees. See the fund prospectus for more info.
To me, these fees r too minimal for concern....as it had been reflected in the nav.....
The funds frequent changing of stocks holding will incurred more cost...n the skill of fund selection n luck in the mkts timing will be my concern

Hi,

Just need to figure out as below:-

a) How reliable is the Bid-to-Bid Annualized Return analysis? If shows uptrend, much of the time they gain profit?

b) What they mean as below?
"The performance figures in the table above are calculated using bid-to-bid prices, with any income or dividends reinvested. Performance figures of over 1 year are annualised.(Eg. A 33.1% gain in 3 years works out to a 10% gain per year when annualised.)"
*
while waiting for value added responses....I found this while googling...
How to calculate NET annualized returns ( ie. after deducting Fundsupermart sales charge)
note the responses from "weiji"....

The stock market has traditionally swung from periods of euphoria into bouts of pervasive panic, with the most recent crash in China's equity market, which has seen a spectacular rally since the end of 2014, still fresh in our minds.
While it is important to determine the right assets to invest in during times of uncertainty and heightened market volatility, gaining a basic understanding of your own investor profile is also equally important in attaining your investment objectives.
At this current juncture, when markets remain volatile, it may be a suitable time to give it some thought. There are as many types of investors as there are instruments to invest in.
Do you know what your profile is?

need to some calculation and reading of each fund fact sheet to see how it goes....

sweat.gif doh.gif Downgrading US, Europe and Brazil!

We are downgrading three markets on the back of sharply higher prices and stagnant or deteriorating fundamentals.
iFAST Research Team April 28, 2016

•Equity markets have staged a strong rebound since we upgraded the markets on 12 February 2016 ◦Market Performance: US +12.4%, Europe +11.5%, Brazil +36.9% (in local currency terms)

•While equities have moved sharply higher, underlying fundamentals have either remained the same or posted slight deterioration for the three markets
•Higher prices with lower earnings estimates have resulted in higher valuations for all three markets, leading to lower forecasted returns for investors ◦Expected Annualised 2 Year Returns: US -0.6%, Europe +1.2%, Brazil +4.1% (in local currency terms)

•We are downgrading the Star Ratings of the markets as follows:
◦US - From 2.5 "Neutral" to 2.0 "Unattractive"
◦Europe - From 3.0 "Attractive" to 2.5 "Neutral"
◦Brazil - From 4.0 "Very Attractive" to 3.0 "Attractive"

•Investors should not chase prices or performances, consider seeking more defensive strategies for US and Europe, relook their portfolio allocations

I plan to buy PRS scheme through FSM.
But I am not sure, what is FSM role in this? Is it acting as the agent?

I know it sounds very no0bie, to which I am. Hence asking it here biggrin.gif
*
hmm.gif I think it is just a reseller of funds......it is an online platform where it provides an avenue for UTs selection.
(sort of an agent that represent a wide range of FHs)
think of it like ...ebay, amazon or lazada......that provide added info like UT investment education, current insights and etc

Dear all,

Wanna double check how shall we calculate our fund growth.

Let's say for a fund, i bought one year ago, the price is RM0.20, I spent RM400 to buy 2000 units. Between one year ago and today, the fund distributed dividend at RM0.01 per unit, when the price is RM0.30. Today, the price is RM0.25.

Neglecting any management fee, so my fund growth is {[(2000*0.01)/0.3+2000]*0.25}/(2000*0.20)=1.2917, 29% growth?
*
you got 2000 unit at initial investment = initial value (IV) is RM 400
today how many units you got in total?
multiply that total avail units with the current NAV = current value (CV).
CA-IV = x value...do the maths with IV to find the % of gain or lost.

try use this tool?
input / select required input...then wa-lah....
Fund Returns lets you derive the performance of a fund over the specified period.
Fund performance is not available for funds with a history of less than one year

Thanks sifu for the tool, I've now bookmarked. Apparently a lot of the funds are not performing well over the past year.

Relatively new to this, just wanted to double confirm if my concept of calculating the dividend is correct. Thank you for the explanation  thumbup.gif
*
sorry...I cannot confirm as I don't do serious maths.
I just calculate
(current NAV x current unit available) - invested value, to get the profit or lost value in RM
than if I want % I do another simple maths cal.

Can that work in UT? We don't need to do IRR our some complex excel right? brows.gif
*
yes, it can works in any investment.....just that you are not sure how efficient is your investment.
ex,..a quick glance the ROI (previous calculation) can gives you a very high ROI of lets say.....100%...but it is just part of the story.....for one does not know how long had the investment be......if that 100% ROI is 2 years or 50 years.....the IRR will tell you which one is more efficient (based on historical returns)...

How about count the ROI every year, divide by the number years you have invested? Give a much accurate answer. No?
*
the answer is not so straight.....for simple estimated calculation...can use that.....
in post # 1, FAQ # 5...got a simple chart that explains and also there is a formula.

see a very well explained post by forummer idyllrain in post 2377 about IRR things.

Are growth or small caps funds recommended for people more than 50 years old?
*
hmm.gif normally they would advise people with that age to be more on "conservation"/ 'preservation" of asset value...thus less on growth or small caps which are more volatile....
but what the hack...unknown to your risk profile, the amount of money you wanna invest in relation to your asset value and etc....I would say...invest a portion in to them at an amount that cannot affect your emotion or sleep for a few years of down trends (if that happens). biggrin.gif
