How's the mirror coat zero effect? Any visual difference after application? I saw some reviews mentioned that there will be a minor white coat on the mirror after application.

If u ask here, sure everyone gonna ask u to do car detailing DIY 😆
PPF is expensive.. just stay away from trucks/lorries that can cause stone chips..
*
haha.. Are there any coatings that I could apply DIY to reduce scratches?

I do have it 13 years ago, I don't do PPF, no money haha... Just regular DIY detailing to protect it.

I see, will the white turns yellowish in time too even with regular detailing?

QUOTE(Quazacolt @ Mar 3 2021, 04:23 AM)
Hey long time no see bro! biggrin.gif

yes you definitely could buy even from reputable brands or the cheapo Lazada/Shopee/Aliexpress coatings that's widely available

few caveats:
1) your biggest challenges will be the surface prepping prior to sealing it with coating
2) whatever coating you may have, scratches will still be there, it is merely on the coating surface instead of the clear coat.
what i meant is that, depending on how thick the coating is, scratches will still be visible and as you polish it down, you remove the coating, and/or the clear coat.
3) high durability/high thickness (or hardness) coatings may be challenging to apply themselves, they may cure to a solid lump on over application/drips like i experienced a little with the 3M headlamp clear coat not too long ago as that was literally a clear coat meant for plastics.
imagine repainting the clear coat on your car, albeit at a thinner level/not so permanent level.
some coatings even require UV light to speed up curing so that it does not stay liquid for too long as it has potential for running/drips/contaminants (dusts) to ruin its finishing.
*
Hey! Nice see-ing you here too!

Noted on the caveats, maybe i try apply on a small section and see how is the effect first. Any brands can recommend me to look into for starter? biggrin.gif

Getting the car soon wanna preserve the white as long as possible.. biggrin.gif

Stoner speed bead good? I still got alot of waxes to go through haha..
Btw last weekend project i tried paint touchup bought via shopee..

1st n 2nd pic using ezy touchup paint. Can notice the diff on red car (10+ years old) compare to white (1 month old). Should i try using the rubbing compound to even it out?
3rd/4th pic before/after using turtlewax scratch remover.

Your white is platinum pearl white? noticed the touch up park abit dull, is this before you applied the basecoat B?

Yes white pearl. White is abit dull compared to the original.
Can't really see the difference unless you shine light (hence i had to take pic with flash to show it). But based on my experience, if can remove via scratch remover is better. But if it's too deep, touch up paint might make it look uglier.

Any ways to even the paint?
*
according to eztouchup, the rubbing compund can help to even out, but according to the official FAQ it will affect the surrounding original clear coat.

your touch up paint comes with 2 base coat (tricoat)?

Only one base coat and clear coat was given. Seen others giving similar feedback e.g. the touchup not same with original. Let me see how it looks like after few days and get back to u
*
Hmmm i think you may have got the wrong paint, for platinum pearl white should have 2 base coat.

1 is flat white another is the platinum pearl effect layer. I just got mine havent use it yet. Plan to test it on a paper first. Got 1 small stone chipped paint on car acceptance dry.gif

Yeah some color/base coating have another layer like yours.
My Iswara only one metallic silver so base/color coat > coat coat and a rubbing compound.

The base coat term can get confusing as sometimes that could refer to the primer coat.
Car bare metal > galvanizing/anti rust/e coat > primer /base coat > color/top/base coat/main paint > finally a clear coat protection
*
Things get even more complicated when it comes to paint with special effects/tricoat paint rclxub.gif like Toyota's Platinum Pearl White and Mazda's Soul Red Crystal because they have extra 1 layer of metallic coat between the basecoat paint and the top coat instead of mixing the metallic flakes into the basecoat paint

QUOTE(woodentiger86 @ Mar 30 2021, 11:00 AM)
I think the newer ones have 4 bottles.

Mine which is the S43 Granite Grey still comes with 3.

Upon first application will look like splats of paint on the impacted area but after letting the clear coat cure, it should be fairly negligible. It won't be 'perfect' but at least masks the scratches etc.
*
Yup EzTouchUp newer ones have extra rubbing compound. But for tricoat paints will have 5 bottles in total.

Just tested out on a paper. Happy to report back EzTouchUp Platinum Pearl White (089) turns out to be quite similar to the original paint provided with the clear coat application.

Haha, yea. Sold off 2 weeks ago with the balance going into the downpayment for the Ativa.

user posted image

It's been a good 2 years although slightly underused and everything was stock, hence possibly the decent price I received. I removed all the stickers except for the boot bar decal though. brows.gif

So new project coming + coupled with the almost daily evening rain - might want to start claying the car by this weekend.

So many racun coating packages on offer on the Ativa FB pages too, like Alva at RM 588 but all this while I've pretty much resisted doing coating...

Not sure if I should take the plunge.

rclxs0.gif

Probably just stick to DIY and save that RMXXX instead.

#throwback

[attachmentid=10836317]

is it only me or does everyone who uses the Soft99 Fusso Wax suffers from this. no matter how much the surface was prepped prior, a "dark" layer will develop on top of it few months into its application. it is not obvious and is not visible until you take a clay bar against it.

because i re-apply the wax every 8 months or so, claying the car becomes a ritual.

what gives?
*
could it be the wax is picking up the residue from the clay and leave it on your surface?

Hmm I did take a look but didn't really pursue.

Are you using it? I still wondering if it's a worthwhile addition since the results does look very similar to spray on products like Seal & Shine or even Meg's HCW.
*
tempted to try but the price tag abit holding me back, waiting for good voucher in lazada/shopee. it should be similar to HCW as it contains SiO2 iirc

personally not fond of trapo mats.

my wife bought into the hype, and now a wee bit regret as they are very overrated classic rubber mats lol.
you're paying for the hype/trendy and marketing.

personally, i hate how exposed the dirt/sand are, and if your phone happen to fall on to the mat, and on the glass side, prepare to get a very dirty phone screen.
*
I'm using Trapo Classic, it is quite pricey and doesn't really feel worth when you held it, it is really light, feels like it is just made from some cheap foam.

But apart from that, I guess the main selling point for this mat is that it's really easy to clean compared to my past experience with coil mats and factory stock mats.

Whenever i wash coil mats, always there will be hairs got stuck with the coil fiber and small stones somehow got caught in it, need to dig it out with hands and really having hard time to wash it.

As for factory stock carpet, it doesn't holds small stones/sands in place, often the sands will just roll off the carpet, when your shoe is wet, oh boy, carpet just soaks right up and often i will need to spend quite a long time scrubbing off harden dirt from the carpet.

Trapo, IMO, easiest to clean, don't really need to scrub long to get off the dirt, and most of the time when i saw some sands/stones accumulated, i just remove it out from the car and just shake it off for a few seconds, don't need to dig out the sands/stones. Oh yeah and most importantly, really fast to dry up after washing with water, i just leave it indoor by the window, even though without direct sunlight it will just dry up after 1 day, the hardest part to dry up is just the edge as it is cloth material.

Hello car fans
Im trying to restore/maintenance my car's leather recently and im not sure which product to use
There's some minor cracks currently and it is enough for me to purchase Leather cleaner like Meguiar's? Or i need to use Leather dye or some sanding skills to make it looks nicer in this case?

Thanks.

I never done leather restoration before, remind me a video i watched few days ago.

From the pics seems there are no leather peeling, so I guessing you will just need leather cleaner then dye (you really need to find the exact matching color else it will look bad) then leather conditioner/coating.

I did a bit then removed it this morning cos taking the plunge into coating...

They having special promo for first 100 Ativa units - mine was apparently #95 already across their 4 outlets but was their 1st Granite Grey unit to be detailed at their Glenmarie store. I was quoted 1,288 for both interior and exterior. RM999 only for external coat whilst they had another RM1,888 package [super glossy] which I didn't opt for.
Looking forward to your results too bro!

I was advised not to wash my car for the next 7 days...  hmm.gif Still need to let the coat cure for a week but no issues exposing it to sun/rain though.

So just monitor first.

Unless those tree sap/bird poop then need to wipe immediately.

I really will see if it's really 'maintenance-free' for the 3 years. As a DIY wash person, will be very interested to know whether these 'coatings' work or are just 'gimmick'.
*
RM999 consider not bad la.. I did sent my Yaris for ceramic coating, the applicator warrants me for 7 years, meaning during the 7 years if the hydrophobic effect worn off or if I got my car repainted, I can just make an appointment for free recoat. I would say it's not a gimmick lar (just that some applicator advertised it until too extreme already, some mentioned it's scratch resistant and can prevent stone chips doh.gif) So far after a month and 3 washes later, can still feel the body paint is still really smooth, hydrophobic effect is still like new and washing off dirt is really easy, as of how long these effect will lasts, I'm still monitoring on it.

Last week I had my car repainted by the dealer on 1 of the body panel due to paint chipped upon car delivery, I had set an appointment for recoat as well. Hopefully all goes well biggrin.gif

Yes it is better for your to touch up/respray the paint first then only go for coating. but some say better wait for the paint to fully set then only go for coating.
