Just to share, today finally had a chance to try out Meguiar's NXT shampoo and it was a lot better IMO compared to TurtleWax wash & wax I used previously. Has finer suds and they last longer. Turtlewax's suds were.. rougher and doesnt last long, in the end it's like you are cleaning your car with plain water.

Slowly realised that some items are worth investing in, like shampoo I mentioned above , applicator pads and good microfiber towels which I bought SCGB drying towel not too long ago and they have fantastic water absorbency compared to my previous cheap MF towels. Quite an eye opener for me.

BTW, I am searching for a good detailing brush that won't scratch paint. Currently considering Osren or SGCB ones, or are there any better alternative to recommend?

On a side note : I remember seeing somewhere once that someone used paint brush (used to paint walls) as their detailing brush for car. Is this advisable or safe?

no matter how frequent i wash the car, i will get those kind of "marks"... more common/noticeable on a white/light coloured car. But it is easily remove-able after a car wash as paint is coated/waxed

I have the same problem too. I was thinking whether cleaning those tight spots with a detailing brush might help? Cleaning those spots with mf towels doesn't really help that much.

the rag company can ship from US to MY

Yeah. I searched and saw on Amazon also they ship to Malaysia. But still the price is a bit high for me T_T so I will probably look for cheaper alternatives.

Anyhow thanks for the recommendation. The brushes do look so tempting to Impulse buy. Haha

Hey guys, any good wash mitts brand to recommend that is good on paint and glass? Thanks!
*
If you want cheap noodle type wash mitt, you can find it at Mr DIY. You can also find wash mitt at ACE hardware. I suppose you can also buy branded ones if you don't mind the price.

I first started with rolson noodle type wash mitt. It works fine. Then I later switched to SGCB wash mitt (not noodle type). The advantage of this SGCB one is that it holds a lot more water and suds than my old Rolson wash mitt.

Yeah I think most detailing brushes are made with boar hair except for one brush that Slk introduced (as per below link), the hair is made from synthetic material it seems.

The sgcb mitt is wool type or the microfibre type? It seems you have tested a lot of sgcb products.
*
The SGCB wash mitt I got is loose microfiber type (not noodle type). You can Google the picture.

It's because SGCB happens to be the first batch of quality accessories I bought. At first (before I discovered this thread) I only got turtlewax products and cheap microfiber cloths from ACE Hardware, then after reading this thread and saw Blurcase's mention a shop in Puchong named Active Star selling good value MF cloth so I decided to pay them a visit and found out they mainly carry SGCB and Rupee (but I not knowledgeable when it comes to machines) products.

Overall I feel their price in general are lower than meguiars but competitive with Osren (my gutt feeling). Their products are quite worth it for the price I pay I think. I don't know how good their products are compared to other quality products as I only used cheap products before this, but at least I am happy with them. I bought the below SGCB products.

-long drying towel : works a lot better than cheap MF towel for sure. Still absorb water well after a few manual washing.

-MF towel for buffing : bought but have not use it yet.

-firm wax applicator pad : used a few times still retains their shape. A lot better than applying wax by MF cloth!

-long wheel brush : it works.

-tire wax applicator : mistake it for tire brush. I was wrongly advised by one of the staff there and dumb enough to think it is for brushing tire. (facepalm) ended up buying cheap brush at Mr DIY much later.

Probably will go back in the future to get a few more stuff. For those curious of what SGCB products there are you can search for pictures of their product catelog at their Fb page.

How much you purchase for the sgcb microfiber wash mitt?
*
Sorry to say I don't quite remember as I didn't record down the price at that time. Might be around RM50. If you really want to be sure you can fb message them. My advice is to send them a picture of the wash mitt when asking for price as it helps them identity the product you are asking.

Hello, can I ask anyone try polishing by hand (using Meguiars Ultimate polish) before? In my case there are no serious defects on my car, I plan to clay & polish off some embedded dirt that can't be clayed and maybe fix some fine scratches. No serious defects that I could see so far.

So I wonder if polishing by hand is enough? I plan to use firm applicator pad to do the job. Is it enough? Or need something else (hex-logic pad or microfiber applicator pad) that offers more 'cut'?

I read in V4 before that some seniors did it before, I wonder maybe if their opinion has changed since then.

I did that many many years ago when I was younger and had more energy. Based on what u plan to do, I dont think it should be a problem. Just try one section at a time, and see the results. Sometimes u may require to go in for 2-3 rounds depending on the severity of the defect, but as always, the rule of thumb is to let the product and pad do the work. Dont put too much pressure into the pad or else u may cause more problems.
*
Thanks for the advice smile.gif BTW as you mentioned you sometimes used dish washing liquid to clean off polishing oils right? Can I ask do you spray it or just drip the liquid on panel, wipe and rinse? If it's spray.. Is there a dilution ratio for it?

Yes, I spray from sprayer bottle and it is very diluted. I didnt measure the dilution ratio, however my sprayer bottle is Osren 1000ml bottle, and I squirt maybe 10ml of Joy dishsoap into the bottle and filled it up to 1000ml mark.

A light mist from the spray, then use a dry microfiber and wipe off. If all microfiber towels u have at the time are damp or wet already, then need to wipe few more times until bubbles are gone. When u swipe your car body after that, the feel should be squeeking like clean plates instead of slick and slippery.

Got it. Thanks again smile.gif I am planning to do a more thorough detailing (hand polish and apply pure wax/sealant compared to currently apply cleaner wax at most) sometime in the future and slowly gathering tools and information.

Still have yet to decide on a pure wax/sealant. Considered Fusso coat but some say it attracts watermark and dust. Considering FK1000p but recently heard some good things about Collinate 476s too. Hmm..

Thanks for the suggestion. Have you used it? Can you provide us a quick review? smile.gif just trying to look for something durable that can withstand our hot weather and also maybe not attract too much dust.

What color is your car? What wax or sealent u have tried?
*
Midnight blue (metallic dark blue). Relatively new car. So far only use Mother's cleaner wax and top up with Meguiars gold class premium Quik Wax (as i read it's more suitable for dark cars) so far.

Been looking for a more durable proper wax/sealant and so far considering Fusso coat, FK1000p and Collinate 476s.

U should try SONAX brilliant shine detailer (BSD). It's a sealant basically.
*
Yeah, haven't heard much of Sonax products until I read back V4. Seems like a lot of seniors have good things to say about Sonax BSD. Thanks for the suggestion.

So means use Sonax BSD as the only protection instead of like a top up sealant? In your experience how long does it last? Curious on the durability.

Much durable than Meguairs quick wax and less prone to waterspot. Easy to apply after each wash.

Nice. Will try to look for it and try it out in the future when have budget. Thanks for the recommendation smile.gif
