Hey guys, I’m getting a new Ioniq and the SA offered to do some sort of coating which has 5 years warranty. She offered 1.3k for this.

Would anyone know what type of coating is this actually? From my conversation it’s actually from outside vendor not from Hyundai itself. For some reason I’m not sure if it would actully hold the shine for 5 years
*
Tonnes of brand in market now, all claim last x years of durability.

My suggest is ASK till you get the brand name, and all the T&C + do homework kaokao....

If you have concern, my advice better don't spent the Rm1.3K, find one that you are comfortable with

Any recommended product to clean matte black wheels?

So far i just use water. Doesnt seem to clean well, the black looks a little brownish now. Is regular car shampoo alright?

If possible, I also wanna give it a bit of shine. Some say it's ok to just apply some tyre shine on it, but some say it's gonna peel off the paint.

Any suggestions?
*
plastidip, after market spray or genuine coated paintwork ? any photos to show ?

Sorry for the blur pic.

When i bought these Taiwan rims, it was already black. So I guess it's genuine coat?
Tq!

Umm you can wash it with normal car shampoo and clean the contamination with any alkaline based wheel cleaner (since it has no clear coat, don't take the risk using any strong/acidic based cleaner).

For the little 'shine', you can apply a think coat of car wax and buff off ....applying clear coat aside make it over-gloss (which not many ppl liking), you also need proper surface preparation so it will bond better (but durability will be in doubt) since it quite a temperature area (progress will get more complicated)...

End result, you can turn flat matte paint to semi gloss matte

Hey brothers,

Just asking a newbie question. I have read through many posting but unable to find the advice.

For Ceramic Coating
1. Any specific car shampoo that specialized for maintenance or just normal PH Balance shampoo?
2. Can you still use QD like the MG's Last Touch
3. What about Whell brightener on Coated Rim?
*
you newbie ex-sifu ? ohmy.gif biggrin.gif ...

1. Any car shampoo will do - washing and drying method is the concern.
2. Yes for sure, can even wax and polish
3. Cannot. Brightener is acidic bases.

I dont think its right to say that u can polish after coating application unless u want to remove the coating. Polishing contains abrasives that will shave the coating.
*
nowadays ceramic coating is hard enough, polish will hardly remove them...unless compound/heavy compound. I have done so many correction on the surface and protection is still there.

Hi All,

May i know what is different between Waxing vs Ceramic Pro Coating vs Diamondbrite Coating?

Any professional can advise on it?
*
wax - something that you have been hearing all 'this while' when you start knowing about car care.
ceramic/glass coating - a next level of car care protection (chemical) product that is being introduce to the world in the past 8-10 years....

lain2 you can read here - (many here like reading tongue.gif)

https://www.sensha.com.au/blogs/magazine/gl...ts-and-demerits
http://www.mingshine.com/blog/2017/9/12/ce...traditional-wax
https://adamspolishes.com.au/blogs/news/pai...-sealant-vs-wax

My view :

1. Wax - way cheaper than coating - durability will wear off faster (depend on product and how you maintain it)
2. Coating - 10x to 50x more costly than traditional wax but durability is 'higher' - usually maker tell their product can last between 1-5 years (need proper preparation before apply)

Both also require regular maintenance

Hi guys

Just wanna ask is it necessary to send a brand new car immediately for detailing or wait until 2-3 months? Because I heard that sometimes dealer did a poor job at "touching up" all the factories defect (if any) to make it look brand new.

Also I'm wondering how much does full car detailing usually cost
*
Factory paint is sprayed by robot/machine. They have gone thru proper 'cure' time + by the time you collect your car its usually at least 2-4 months seated in the store/open space parking)

Is the 'touch up' you referred to = polish/waxing job before deliver to you ? - well this is very much depend on dealer, some just get their service center worker (if they tie together with sales office) to wash it else send to any car wash outside to wash and pass to you...UNLESS those that offer coating package to you prior for car delivery.

Coating package usually start from 1-2K and above

Can I just get any brush from the toilet cleaning department to clean the rims and tyres?
*
toilet brush is hard bristle and likely will scratch your rim.

U can look for this kinda of brush or even bottle brush from supermarket, online store, hardware shop...

The car brought by 1 year ago , is a second hand car.

No polish or detailing job done by me, only regular clean.

The car claimed as no repaint job done before.

The problem only on my upper C pillar.

If clear coat failure, any workshop can respray the clear coat only? I don't want to brush off all my paint, coz is a lexus is250, damn heart pain.

Here is the closer pic

Nope, unless is a fresh paint then applying a layer of cc is possible. Since its silver colour, reapply the silver primer also need skill else different angle/lighting you will notice different tone....e.g plastic bumper/car body - there is some differences even from factory...

ok sifu-sifu sekalian, first time wanna try car detailing. Please do advise if this is the correct steps and right products/tools to use:

1) Wash
    - Tools = mitt, bucket with grit guard, snow foam lance(optional)
    - product = Osren buble&wax/Osren Nano wash/Meguiars gold class

2) Clean
    - Tools&product = Claybar with Meguiars Last Touch/ONR as lube

3) Polish
    - Tool = DeWALT DWP849X/Osren DAP15/Porter-Cable? - which one better?
    - Products = Meguiars Ultimate compound/Meg Ultimate Polish

4) Wax
    - Tools = DA Polisher/Hand applicator
    - Products = Meguiars Ultimate paste/liquid Wax/Fusso coat 12month

5) Maintain
    - wash every week
    - wax every 3months? then apply SiO2 sealant - Carpro/Feynlab

Correct?
*
There are tonnes of ways available and there isn't anyone specific one which is 'correct' or definite way...its totally depend what you like to achieve....

This so called 5 'steps' is just a generic process if you are new into detailing enthusiasm.

With all the modern ceramic/glass/whatever coating (not paste/liquid wax). The preparation work/process could be vary...

My suggestion is that do ONE round for step 1 to 3. Step 4 for you to decide u still prefer conventional paste/liquid wax or sealant..OR go for modern ceramic/glass coating

Subsequently, your REGULAR care should only between 1 and 5 or 1, 4, 5 or 1,5,4.....

Generally u have the right idea, but as g88 say, there can be variations for every detailer depending on what they are trying to achieve. I added some comments to your post for additional reference.

With regards to your choice of polishing machine, I suggest starting with Osren DAP8 if u have no experience in this area. Dewalt is rotary and maybe not advisable for newbies, Osren DAP15 is heavier and also more aggressive cut (also maybe not so advisable for newbies), and Porter Cable runs on US 120V current means u have to carry a heavy transformer around.

Additionally, sealant is generally more durable than wax, so it is generally suggested that sealant should be the base layer if u want to apply wax as second layer.

Also, u should decide if u want to go for Meguiars Ultimate Wax, Fusso coat, or Carpro or Feynlab. Among these 4, Fusso seems to have the longest durability, and for some ppl it is not recommended to apply anything on top of Fusso else u bury Fusso under another protection layer and not maximizing Fusso protection.

Again, it is all about what u're trying to achieve.
*
Not sure if u notice Fusso coat is a dirt/dust film magnet ...if gone thru multiple wet > dry by sunlight or win...the contamination will be harder to be remove compare to other wax like M16, 1000P, and some other brand...
