Yi dashcam vs Mijia dashcam

The Mijia dashcam looks clearer in the video but the video is darker. The Yi dashcam can see more details in darker areas (Hopefully Mi can fix this in a future firmware?)

XIAOMI YI Action Cam and YI Dash cam is two different thing.
(Albeit the two share the same manufacturer plant)

This is misleading with the consumer

Come brother I don't need you to spoonfeed me. I can do the research by myself to find out the actual facts. I think you might want to do some research on how the name of xiaoyi came about from xiaomi.

Xiaoyi is the R&D arm of Xiaomi to develop the Yi technology products.

https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Xiaomi

Yi action cam is also from xioayi... Please see xiaoyi website as the yi action cam is listed in their product range... So does that means it's not original from xiaomi also?

By the way, perhaps you want to read the Chinese explanation again to understand better. My advise is don't use Google translate cause it doesn't give the correct meaning.

There's no settings from left or right hand drive... You can see the settings screenshot in the first post.

That's the ADAS function... Not that accurate yet... Maybe the later firmware updates will fix it...

Look at the light.
The star effect which i dont encounter on 013 firmware.
Will test 024 firmware next.

QUESTION : Is it safe to leave this dashcam in car for all day?
Will meletup or degraded the battery lifespan?

Thanks

The star effect which i dont encounter on 013 firmware.
Will test 024 firmware next.

QUESTION : Is it safe to leave this dashcam in car for all day?
Will meletup or degraded the battery lifespan?

Thanks

Do you hardwire it?

Guys,
About the glare/star effect, nothing wrong with this firmware.
Just don't mess with the lens.

Thanks.

The Yi dashcam don't have parking mode, so don't need to hardwire... Also with 64GB, most is 8 hours of recording...

My current setup as I'm still testing the Yi dashcam... I don't unplug when I park my car...

I search in gearbest but cannot find one.

The original mount is getting loose, because my car is under the hot sun everyday.

YouTube downgrades the video quality. YouTube's settings are so that when you upload a large bandwidth file it is automatically compressed loosing a lot of clarity. This is mainly because YouTube would like to keep it's bandwidth usage down so that the most people can upload and watch videos.

bang, depends on the car.... as they have mentioned most cars dont have power going to the ports once the car is 'off', but on certain cars, power is still supplied even though the key is removed.... (its a feature)

hi guys, i just had this xiaoyi dashcam, so far its great with great videos but one problem is that i'm not sure is my car's cig lighter problem or xiaoyi's car charger problem, there isn't any power coming from it... bought another car charger and it is working. however sometimes need to turn left and right abit like the contact is not so good.

with the ciayi's ori car charger no matter how i turn also nothing... hhmmm... just my luck i guess... but overall great cam.

@ RM187 include courier fees (peninsular only) with 1 year warranty by a company seller

i guess only this company seller can offer 1 year warranty so far. others are 7 days ~ 6 months.

can pm me

valid now till 30/4, and only can do 3 or 4 purchases for this price.

There's a difference I think, read it on the forums. The FAQ on their website mentioned this too ( just found out ).

QUOTE
To make the use of the camera more convenient, we provide a double-port cigarette-lighter adapter in the product pack. While the adapter is charging the camera, you can still use the other USB socket for your another electronic device. However, do plug the charging cable of the camera to the socket close to the blue light.

Via the Xiaoyi dashcam app... Make sure you have a microsd card in the dashcam before starting as it needs to copy to the dashcam before it can flash the firmware... Also a stable power supply...

Just checked your Aukey USB charger, it has one 2A and 2.4A ports... shouldn't be a problem. I have a feeling the port near the LED light on the yi USB charger has higher output than the other.

hi guys,

anyone here have both the xiaomi dashcam and action cam? I am currently using the xiaomi xiaoyi action cam as car dashcam but i find it very warm while it's operating...

i wonder is the new xiaomi dashcam also running as warm as the action cam? does the ventilation hole in the new dashcam really help to lower the operating temp of it?

anyway i managed to find the cheapest xiaomi dashcam sold by kopipeng in 11street....

with voucher and free credits, this is the best price i could find for time being...

what type of coupon(s) can render discount to that?

229 -25.19(11% bonus coupon) -7(shipping coupon) -cart coupon? = RM114? there is no such value cart coupon, even payday cart coupon

so u have tremendous credit saving storing from last time till now or using bcard points as cash redemption? i guess this is the method u got such huge savings right.

btw, cheapest in 11st is the company seller who offer 1 year warranty. if u can get RM114 with rm229 price tage, u should able get from the company with RM105 and got 1 year warranty. also got several other sellers at rm227.90.

p/s:
after analysing your coupon combination mechanism, i guess it is

rm229 +pos rm8 -rm25.19 (11% bonus coupon) -rm28 (payday cart coupon) -rm7 (ship coupon) -rm62 (your credit or bpoint cash) = RM114.81

if company one is rm220 +pos7 -rm24.2 (11% bonus) -rm7 (ship coupon) -rm62 (your credit or bpoint cash) = RM133.8
payday cart coupon can't apply bcoz of not fullfiling min rm200 requirement after bonus coupon discount (thus makes kopipeng pricing is strategically good timing for this coupon working mechanism, the company pricing is on the losing side ~ with regards to 11st platform at this moment)
it is rm18.99 more to pay but u get 1 year local warranty, worthy or not depends on your own judgement wink.gif since only you got huge credit store up in your account, who/what ever u choose it already way far cheapest and lucky u. thumbup.gif

Just got my dashcam that I bought from coolstore today!

Cant wait to test it out. Btw, I need to dl the app right? what else?

EDIT: Oh and one important question, got 3 resolutions to choose from right, which is the best one that I should use?  I have a 32gb class 10 micro sd
*
Higher resolution slightly more detail, but I prefer the smoother motion on 60fps.

Not much noticeable difference. Of course the higher the better. Which one you targeted?

i wanted to buy the 32gb sandisk class10 microsd 80mb/s from my seller, but he's out of stock and only has 32gb class10 48mb/s..

So was wondering if not much diff in dashcam performance, then i just get the 48mb/s instead. Cause he said need few weeks to restock.. sad.gif

no lah, i don't sell xiaomi stuffs, only help buy deal i think worthy with coupon in hand (and earn little handling charge brows.gif ) else coupons expire what a waste...

btw, i noticed the company increase price by rm19 already on 1/5 (i placed order on 30/4 ~ rm220 price before discount with 1 year warranty really a deal, but a loss to company). it is very expensive to send overseas warranty claim with sth got battery inside, pos malaysia registered mail not allow it, poslaju(ems) and private courier cost a shipping fees of around half of yi cam price juz for 1 trip.

bundled free car charger got problem?

the 360 gen2 dashcam already no bundle car charger, asking user to buy your own

i guess the reasons are:
a) cost of producing high quality charger is expensive, giving low cost one might cause problem
b) user use own cheap charger if damaging the dashcam, manufacturer no need entertain warranty

Better not leave dash camera in car while parked. Rather just get something portable that can cabut out and throw in bag or something.

Last time my colleague car got broken in (smashed window) and steal coins.

My case 2 years ago more worse, pecah my window, but steal nothing (they hit the whole row of cars though). Parked at Sitiawangsa LRT open car park below the tracks.

Nonsense.

i guess yi dashcam is officially reduce it retail price already in china, juz no official announcement, as the latest price shown at their commer site already indicates a same price as pre-launching price.

why drop so fast juz 1 month or 2 only? bcoz dashcam market is within a stiff competition now in china, it started hot from 2015 onwards. yi head-to-head competitor: 360 dashcam juz launched their 360 gen2 dashcam with ambarella A12 chips. yi dashcam can't compete in quality, then resorted for price war.

local dealers would drop their price in coming a week or 2 if they get in new stock.

OK finally got my dash camera.

Hmm the file size is fixed to 3 minutes (311MB) per file?

Wont have some 1 second delay in between files?

Cant seem to find a place to set file type.

what so far knew are:

a) sandisk is the one which causing most incompatibility, so better don touch sandisk
b) 80mb/s , 48mb/s i think more like advertising words, the manufacturer may use data speed of writing or data speed of transferring, "up to" is the keyword
c) samsung one some reviews said the card die fast, not as durable as kingston

so i think juz class 10 + genuine card is enough lah,
fake card + class 10000 also die

48/80 is just the max write speed.... Compare it to a 1cm diameter straw and a 0.5cm diameter straw, given maximum pressure, you can blow more water out of the 1cm diameter straw. Keep in mind however that we don't really need that 'flow' rate, most of the time the smaller straw will cater to our blowind requirements

Why I say best 80 is cause its recommended you use that spec.... But am saying that in using 48 with no issue..

thank you guys for your reply, really appreciate it thumbup.gif . spoke to seller (a nice lady from atcetera solutions) & said this is new packaging (reassured by pointing out that there is "YI" logo printed on it). will test it out and see how it goes. if not, probably get dual usb from Xiaomi M'sia after they restock.

The firmware prior to this

I am suspecting leaving the camera in the hot sun causing that is causing this issue, as othwr forum have mention that if its left under the sun the camera will be out of focus

sunlight > out of focus?

unless it use plastic lens, plastic lens deform/degrade then giving blurring image

if tiz from pg2 was correct, then it is to do with the sensor hardware quality

which batch affected? if xiaoyi recall back then company make loss, since already very low profit margin per unit

if degrade caused by external heat, try put a solar film on casing see can solve or not? biggrin.gif (i got, check my signature link)

if is was due to internal heat e.g. battery, mainboard that cause sensor degrade... then must drill many many hole on plastic casing to see how

Tempted to buy but how you guys use with only chinese language is available?

And does it need to be connected to phone all the time? If can store the video in the sd card, will it automatically delete the previous videos when it gets full?

Got mine from Atcetera Solutions too.. biggrin.gif Fast delivery!

Anyway, i only had one problem and is not the dashcam itself, it was the usb cable that Xiaoyi supplied.
At first i couldn't get any charge to the dashcam and thought it was faulty or my 12v socket was faulty... bangwall.gif
At the end found out i just need to bend/twist a little bit of the cable's end to get the current through... doh.gif

there must be reason dashcam makers switching car usb adapters

wonder these dashcam motherboard built with intelligence ic that can communicate with adapter for the voltage it requires. if no sure, it better stick with 5V 1A single port adapter rather than buying market type like max 2.1A output (1 port max 2.1A, 2 ports connected sharing 2.1A), 3.1A output (similar...) and so on...

thus for the dual port charger given, they ask u to connect to the port near to the power LED which means it should be 1A port, the bottom one is 2.1A.

is that sandisk brand? switch over kingston for compatibility test confirmation, if kingston (genuine one, not fake from roadside/pasar malam/online) also cannot record it, then it is machine hardware faulty.

why should the warranty be 1 year? technically there is a 1 yr warranty...................... valid in china. the warranty stated here, are the honored by the distributors themselves

i got mine for rm17* 1-3 months back? no sd card though

Dear All,
May I know if the LCD screen display can be set to default "off" when recording? I intend to install one at the rear windscreen and the display can be distracting especially at night, when seen through the rear view mirror.

I am using xiaoyi dashcam too. Would say that their HD quality isn't clear as compared to other HD videos i watch

So, i doubt it is actually REAL HD quality. Would try to upload a sample video here later...

apply 1080 60fps

don choose 1296 30fps

the novatek processor's native max resolution is up to 1080

for competition sake, cam makers now juz keep pump up & pump up as knowing consumers like higher resolution specification thinking better video image, can make better sale.

simply saying, price = quality always rules the biz world

I just bought one from Gemfive for RM182. CN version. Bought along with 64gb Evo+.

I haven't really look at the video yet but from the lcd, it seem ok to me. I tried taking a picture and it does ok ok. Not sure if Xiaomi reduced the image quality to save space or not.

I had another DVR named tantugo t300. The thing is that all of them are fixed focus. The clearest would be the center and blur out as you goes further from the center.

Dvr can be dangerous to you.
You are recording from home to your workplace.
If someone break your car screen snatch your dvr. They will now where you stay when they replay the dvr content.

I think acceptable. I compare it with my other DVR which is a Novatek based and its comparable. Sometimes the Mi is better and sometimes the Novatek look better. Mi does have more noise in the video.

I bought it because it has wifi to view the video and take picture whereas the Novatek one would have to take out the sd card to copy.

Mi for RM182 vs Novatek for RM12x (bought from Taobao), I think I still prefer the Mi for the wifi implementation. One thing though.. the image quality also depend highly on the tint. Most people have tint their windscreen and it does disperse the light that went through. Thats why I think it look horrible at night compared to the promo video that demonstrate the dvr capability.

Actually the Xiaoyi dashcam's A12 chipset is a Novatek 96660 chipset... They just rebrand it as their own... laugh.gif laugh.gif laugh.gif

You need to know which Novatek chipset your RM12x dashcam is using... Could be a lower range Novatek chipset...

Another thing is that you need to know what image sensor is used... Xiaoyi dashcam is using Aptina AR0230CS image sensor...

This is not an updated chart but the Novatek 96660 is among Ambarella A7 & A12 range...

out of focus for couple of meters away - high chances are production quality, need to send back for rectification, ie. dismantle the lens and redo focusing.

it juz like camera dslr moving their lens forward/backward, but for dashcam need to 'lock' at steady position after confirming the focus point, can't zoom in zoom out as u like. if self-adjusting would void the warranty as would involve dissembling casing.

nope.

c example of good focus:

(not xiaoyi, another brand)

Attached Image

this is one example slightly out of focus:

Attached Image

to do a simple testing:

stay put, full stop. 0km/h

can view 5-6 meter away plate number clearly?

if not, that not best focus setting.

for mainland buyers they juz send back for tuning focus (foc), but for overseas buyer then need bear shipping cost.

it has been reported unnumbered case of out of focus matter, all brands also kena, bcoz factory need to produce so many cam per job batch, cannot guarantee flawless of every unit.

hey guys im planning to sell my Yi Dashcam as im upgrading it to another one.

Age of item is 2 months+ only, still new.
condition i would say 9/10 as my car isnt exposed to the sun much.
grey colour.

bought it for 190 + 40 (32gb class 10 microsd card).
Planning to let both go at 180. or just drop me an offer.

If discreet, can look at A118C or the A119 or the Shadow1s or the B40D...

Bro, a few questions I have :-
1. Did you install it yourself ?
2. Are the cables all hidden or exposed ?
3. Did you mount it on the rear-view mirror or stuck on the upper windshield ?

Thanks.

The Xiaomi Yi 4K is launching soon - wondering if it's worth it since the price is 4-5X more than the current one. It has the same specs as the GoPro Hero 4 Black though...

Hi everyone, just bought a yi dashcam from 11street. But the yi dashcam always hang when attempt to view album via yidashcam app(latest .013). Using sandisk 16gb 48mbps class 10. Anyone having same problem? Wonder is it app issue, hardware issue or sd card issue?

All dashcams now is using microSD (other or older name is TF cards) cards now... Only left a few dashcams using SD cards...

But Xioayi dashcam must use class 10 & above only... Lower class it will reject...

I know, but SD card got 2 type, 1 is SDHC another is common SD.
so I'm just curious whether they supported with SDHC or not.

don worry about format/standard, juz refers to their maximum supported capacity & card manufacturer compatibility list (generally juz avoid sandisk would do)

if one manufacturer mentioned maximum 64gb supported, it would already take care of the latest hardware standard

You need to find out what the max size the micro sd card the dashcam support before buying the micro sd card... I can tell you the most can support max 32gb... Some is 64gb and some is 128gb and above...

Just use the dashcam to format the micro sd card... It will format to the format it's using... No worries...

Anyone has the CN latest firmware? I thinks it still in Beta.
Can share the link?.. Cannot access from the site.

I'm also having these issues using the current CN firmware;
- Noisy recording (especially when you zoom in)
- Difficult to read car plates (unless if the car is right in front of you)
- Button unresponsive after a while (camera is slightly hot) and needed to be push around 2-3 seconds.

If they can solves these issues, I'm a happy user.

Hi guys, I just bought 1 from 11 street as well. So far quite happy with the quality per price but haven't check the out of focus thing. The only problem I had is the mount is very tight and hard to detach once you pasang...since it's not really discreet so I also don't dare to put it overnight, scare people pecah window to steal so every time need to put on and off = /

Btw, oh shit mine is shipped along with Sandisk micro SD sweat.gif Still can use for now but not sure any disadvantage hmm.gif

I bought the gold version some more. Standing outside is very very obvious plus the size is not discreet as well. Keep putting on and off I scare the mount will rosak lol but memang take off the mount is easier than taking off the camera from the mount. Another way is only mount half; as in not to lock it tightly when pasang it to the mount sweat.gif

Didn't considered the discreet part when buying it...should have invest more to buy a discreet dash cam so less hassle sweat.gif

Haven't test the quality of the video and out of focus thingy yet. Tonight will take out the micro sd and see the video okay or not laugh.gif

Just DIY, use creativity, disguise only

those discrete cam also juz design a not obvious plastic casing for the cam to sit in

there are a lot idea for that, ranging from

car fragrance casing (if put on top of dashboard, drag hole, cam sit inside)

to hanging decorative stuffs (below rear view mirror, put in front of cam, make hole for lens, juz like spycam idea)
Attached Image

or even fengshui stuffs (below rear view mirror, if roomy stuff can drag hole inside)
Attached Image

if got budget, design your own disguise casing with 3d printer

The wifi is ok when watching live videos... Only slow a bit when downloading the videos to your phone... You can setup on the Xiaoyi or on the app...

Prefer the 1080p 60fps... Read the 1296p is just digital zoom or something like that on dashcamtalk forum...

I noticed 1080p 60fps color looks more washed out and slightly more blur...compared to the other 2 modes.

that's the problem of malaysia distributorship once secure the 'authorization letter'

everything up 3 figure percent, thus local bulk wholesale price can senang senang deduct couple of ten ringgit to reseller, whereas in china their wholesale bulk price only can reduce few china yuan only even ordering hundred units, imagine that (hard to believe leh...)

same apply to papago malaysia price, asus malaysia price
