Avoid Sandisk Ultra. Will die very fast when used in dashcams.

My favorite is Samsung Evo+.

bought a yi dashcam from Kopipeng, delivery was fast (received on 11/07/17; a day after payment). 1st day in testing (12/07/17) and found that video have no sound. tried reset (poking the side button) and the reset in the camera menu. reformatted the SD card. all did not work. lastly i tried shouting over the microphone hole directly and played the video via desktop with my speakers volume cranked up to the MAX. the sound was played softer than in real life. i told the seller about it but his reply was "its a common issue. hope they will fixed in future firmware update". any advice?

Am not sure if it's truly common, mine function well with audio out of box until today. Perhaps it should be replaced.

Using the Ultra in a phone and in the dashcam is different. Dashcam is read and write the whole time while power on. Phone is not.

I got 3 64GB Sandisk Ultra that has died while using in dashcams.

Don't think it's an issue with the seller. Should be a faulty unit or batch, maybe?

TLC & MLC NAND Overview
Consumers typically see two types – TLC and MLC. TLC is cheaper and less reliable. Manufacturers increased storage density by stuffing more information (3 bits/cell) into a memory cell but sacrifices durability. MLC costs more money and is far more durable because it stores less information per cell (2 bits/cell) so wear and tear is greatly reduced.

Don't buy Sandisk Ultra
The Ultra series is a popular purchase because of their price and availability. They are not a good choice because of their high failure rates when used in dash cameras. As well SanDisk will not warranty any cards used in a dash camera unless you use their High Endurance lineup.

Suspected Problem
TLC cards like the Ultra can have worse controllers, error correction and wear leveling which reduces reliability in heavy use. It’s suspected that the Ultra’s controller chip has an especially hard time handling the constant rewriting of dash cameras. The Ultra may also be overly aggressive in permanently write-locking the card when it detects bad sectors. This is a protective mechanism found in many cards to ensure your data is saved when there are errors. The Ultra may be over-zealous and lock the card early.

Hi,

I have few queries,

a) I can't connect my Xiaomi Yi dashcam with my iPhone via wifi. Can someone here enlighten me?
b) I always need to charge my dashcam , if i unplug the USB cable, the dashcam will power off, is it defective? How long the dashcam internal battery can last ?

TIA
