Guys, just to ask:-

1. Download video fr phone 1080/60 while playing lag? Anyone experienced?

2. Bought crack English version. If i update to new firmware, does it goes back to Chinese?

Tq
*
Try vlc player or mx player on your phone and see...

Only be able to update English firmware only as the it detects the language stated on your serial number in your Yi dashcam... That's how they hacked the Chinese version to install English firmware, by changing the cn to en in the serial number...

it is a known problem for android phones when playing 1080p/60fps video. there will be lag using VLC player or the built in phone video player.
but there is a workaround to that but you gonna have to tweak some settings in the Android Developer Mode. There are some tutorials online to teach you how to tweak it.

for me, i just download the standard resolution to my phone via the xiaoyi wifi to view some scenes.

but if you really want to view the high resolution video, you can do it on your pc. no problem viewing 1080p60fps on your pc or laptop.

I'm using MX Player and it's fine laugh.gif

Received 3 weeks ago, still try to get the good view especially front number plate either stop or moving condition.
* already take out the plastic at front cam)

What the suggest resolution to use?
I: 1080/30f
ii: 1080/60f
iii: 1298
*
You need to test out the 1080p 30fps or 60fps. See which you like.

1296p is interpolated from 1080p.

any hint why that 2 different type of file in the SD Card?
What the different between the *_S (less than 100 MB) and file without _S (large than 100 MB)?
File without the _S are more clear than the _S.
* both are same time stamp
[attachmentid=8930710]
*
The smaller file size movie is for streaming to the phone via wifi... Download faster 30+MB than the full quality 300+MB file...

what kind of microsd card that suitable for this yi dashcam?
will the sandisk Ultra microSDHC C10 UHS-1 compatible?
any other recommended brand and model?
*
Avoid Sandisk Ultra. Will die very fast when used in dashcams.

My favorite is Samsung Evo+.

bought a yi dashcam from Kopipeng, delivery was fast (received on 11/07/17; a day after payment). 1st day in testing (12/07/17) and found that video have no sound. tried reset (poking the side button) and the reset in the camera menu. reformatted the SD card. all did not work. lastly i tried shouting over the microphone hole directly and played the video via desktop with my speakers volume cranked up to the MAX. the sound was played softer than in real life. i told the seller about it but his reply was "its a common issue. hope they will fixed in future firmware update". any advice?

Mine is still working since day 1 until today.

I been using Sandisk Ultra 16GB for 2 years in my phone and 5 months in Yi Dashcam, no problem so far.
*
Using the Ultra in a phone and in the dashcam is different. Dashcam is read and write the whole time while power on. Phone is not.

I got 3 64GB Sandisk Ultra that has died while using in dashcams.

Did you purchase from Kopipeng too? There is audio straight out from box for you?
*
Don't think it's an issue with the seller. Should be a faulty unit or batch, maybe?

ouch

Do you know any particular reason that such problem tend to afflict the Sandisk Ultra cards most?
*
TLC & MLC NAND Overview
Consumers typically see two types – TLC and MLC. TLC is cheaper and less reliable. Manufacturers increased storage density by stuffing more information (3 bits/cell) into a memory cell but sacrifices durability. MLC costs more money and is far more durable because it stores less information per cell (2 bits/cell) so wear and tear is greatly reduced.

Don't buy Sandisk Ultra
The Ultra series is a popular purchase because of their price and availability. They are not a good choice because of their high failure rates when used in dash cameras. As well SanDisk will not warranty any cards used in a dash camera unless you use their High Endurance lineup.

Suspected Problem
TLC cards like the Ultra can have worse controllers, error correction and wear leveling which reduces reliability in heavy use. It’s suspected that the Ultra’s controller chip has an especially hard time handling the constant rewriting of dash cameras. The Ultra may also be overly aggressive in permanently write-locking the card when it detects bad sectors. This is a protective mechanism found in many cards to ensure your data is saved when there are errors. The Ultra may be over-zealous and lock the card early.

Hi,

I have few queries,

a)  I can't connect my Xiaomi Yi dashcam with my iPhone via wifi.  Can someone here enlighten me?
b) I always need to charge my dashcam , if i unplug the USB cable, the dashcam will power off, is it defective?  How long the dashcam internal battery can last ?

TIA
*
1. Not sure as don't use iPhone.
2. Should be battery faulty d as mine also same as used for 1+ year d. If battery no issue can still record about 5-15 minutes.

If language is not a problem? Besides the wide angle lens, is it useful?
How does this compare to Mijia?
*
Basically the power edition is a slight downgrade of the other 2 editions.
Attached Image

I got Yi vs Mijia videos in the first post. Can watch and judge yourself which is better.

Anyway I'm waiting for Yi dashcam 2.7K King Edition to arrive.

I have never used the MiJia. But I have compared with the 165 degree version with ADAS.
I bought my power edition for only RM145. I cant really complain since recording quality is about the same to me although 160 angle lens is noticeable. The older version was over RM200+.

Nah...For anyone who wants to compare. Mine is XiaoYi No ADAS version

Better set the correct date and time. If something happens and you need it for a police report. Wrong date and time will make the video cannot be used in the police report.

It Chinese version lol....English version are extra RM 60-80 more expensive. You not need English version as not much thing you need to configure. Guess normally need is adjust are Resolution (Initially), have fun with the AIDS, On / Off WIFI...
*
Not worth it to spend a bit more for english version. Also, the english version firmware is a few versions behind the current chinese firmware. Not very updated.

(b) want to use it as external video camera for live video recording mah hahaha  tongue.gif
Thanks for your reply and advise mushigen

(a) I have tried numerous time two months ago, by clicking the wifi dashcam, type in the default password, it connected, but when I accessed to Yi Dashcamera apps, it was disconnected.  I kept repeat the same thing, but failed.  I will try again the new 3.0 YI dashcam app and see...

(b) I have tried that without external power, it lasts less than 5 minutes.  I was wondering to take out this dashcam to use as GoPro video camera tongue.gif Their internal battery capacity is tiny or faulty ?!
*
Are using the new Yi dashcam app (blue and white icon)? After updating to the latest app I also cannot connect to the Yi dashcam. But connected once only, after cannot d... LOL!

Well,  it's called a dashcam,  isn't it?  The battery imo is more to store the settings/configuration,  and to allow it to save the last clip than to power the dashcam.

Most can record a few minutes only worth that small battery... LOL

Hey guys, I'm new in this video cam for the car..

1) Is the XiaoYi cam/Xiaomi Mijia the best bang for buck cam? Which would you go for? I'm happy around RM200 budget smile.gif

2) Also, how does it work actually, the video cam will always overwrite the memory card when it's full? And does the camera automatically start recording when you start the car engine or when u turn the camera on?

3) Would either those dashcams be able to tahan in our Malaysian climate? Will always park under the hot sun, etc..

Sorry for the questions smile.gif
*
1. Yes, best bang for your buck. I prefer the Mijia dashcam more than Yi dashcam.

2. Yes, it's called loop recording which all dashcams have. It will overwrite older files first when full. All dashcams auto turns on when you start your engine.

3. Sadly no. The lithium battery might last about a year in the heat. After that, cannot hold a charge or gets bloated.
