Before you could legally transmit on amateur frequencies .. you need to pass the RAE first .. no exception there... however .. if you're working on a field day, anybody (SWL or not) could transmit on air .. PROVIDED that the stationmaster need to start the conversation.. and close down after the conversation ..

BUT .. hee..hee.. you've got a radio .. you've got hands/fingers .. do whatever you ought to do with the radio .. if MCMC caught you .. you just need to pay RM30K fine .. but heck, don't think they've hands to monitor the frequencies .. .. do it at your own risk is what I mean here...

oh...got in to one funny xperience last week with the police.
juz reach home in the wee hours and the police follow me till my house.
check my whole car and ask me bout the antenna and the rig in my jelopy!
wanted to show my AA from the beginning but they say no need. and saying all kind of rubbish such as:-
1) 'orang yang jual benda ni salah'
2) benda ni salah kalau u guna
3) kalau u dgn kawan2 u pakai, boleh pakat buat jenayah
4) ni boleh dapat polis punya radio(meaning can get police freq)

i m so lazy to answer them.i ask them u can check my callsign wif MCMC if they dont blif. but i guess they dunno wat is MCMC oso.

I can tell u that 98% of the police petroling the street these days are USELESS in knowledge. They dun even know the basic of this radio communication thingy(which they have one in their car) and start to accuse ppl.

I was blocked by JPJ 3 months back n they wanna summon me for fixing the radio on my car.

2 of the experiences makes me feel that they did not get proper training and education while in the academy.
anyway, i m not afraid of anything as i have a license to go on air and fix a rig.

Hee..hee.. you mentioned about the police force, you'll be surprise even MCMC is also blur about amateur radio. My neighbor is someone higher up at Bukit Aman but never asked me about all the antennas and all the audio coming out from my radio shack .. guess the guy who followed you have other thing that they wanted from you .. hee..hee.. BTW, have not been stopped at any JPJ nor Police roadblocks for having my long antenna sticking at the back of my car

i was also stopped by the police once during cny when travelling on ns highway and they also said something like tat lor, pakat buat jenayah bla bla bla i just ignored them and i had my rc vest in my car thn they said oh so u use for ur rc i just ya. idiots. and wat if i do monitor leh? nt like itz illegal to monitor a freq rite? unless police wan different la LOL

hahaha, good shit ... but their "tali tali" is also issued by mcmc themselves, so they actually have no jurisdiction for your radios unless they suspect you of having criminal intent ...

yes boleh la ... try some other states frequencies which does not have a scrambler ... can pick up wan la ...

simple, when u kena roadblock, just lower down the volume or shut it down la ... simple ...

but if u kena tail until home like jlee ... then bad luck la ...

like i said jpj's radio also under mcmc's jurisdiction, they have none ... unless they claim ur antenna is too long and will endanger other motoris la ... hahaha

Gosh .. only three to monitor the whole spectrums? Hee..hee.. tough luck for them then. I heard they've the white storm with all the equipment inside.. but with just three trying to enforce for the whole country.. tough luck.. they need at least 300 enforcers ..

I for one went for my license before getting a chance to go on the air. There is nothing wrong to 'tergagap-gagap' on the air for sure.. My daughter has license too, but she rarely goes on air ..

ekk at Kota Kinabalu, most of JPJ dan police staff also join radio amatur commercial club and some of them also got valid B licence.
