my home Unifi is now 10mbps. parents watch lots of YouTube. sometime I play game will lag. does upgrading to 30mbps will make any difference ?
*
Yes, there'll be a difference in available download bandwidth for all... Unless the lag you experience is as a result of upload speeds... QOS rules..

QUOTE(hafiez @ Feb 14 2016, 06:49 PM)
no

unless u do bandwidth control

WHICH I find it is useless anyway

AAAAAAAAAANYHOW maybe it just me.
*
Yes, it's just you and a fine tuned network is quite useful. If your current network conditions suck, get a better router & learn how to optimize your network.

maybe it's the router problem? they tend to push all HD content to the YouTube apps in iPad.
*
Yes, I've experienced this too.. Using the stock router, there's something about playing videos with the YouTube app or Chrome browser that tends to "suck" all available bandwidth.. It's like, it grinds every other connected devices' speed to a halt till the app is stopped.

Both my parents like to watch Youtube by ipad, so the only way for me to get 30mbps is to get a new router?
*
Yes...Yes.. This has been echoed so many times... TM's stock router is crap and they aren't changing it anytime soon...Why? Cuz they don't care, despite all the complaints against them... A more concerned company would have listened to its subscribers and upgraded our hardware..

If you can afford to pay almost RM200 per month for just home broadband & locked in for 24 months, you CAN definitely get a much better router for cheap/higher.. Get a good one and it'll last you for years.

so many brand for Unifi router around, TPLINK, ASUS, DLINK.. which one good? what's the difference between the <Rm100 and > rm200  products?

I need something that can support wireless throughput more than 30mbps as the stock router by TM really sucks.
*
Difference is like night and day. Usually for routers, the higher the cost, the better the performance. Personally, you need to first access your network needs and purchase accordingly. Better to spend a bit more than to deal with network issues.

QUOTE(euphoriaa @ Feb 16 2016, 11:29 AM)
Hi,

I have recently upgraded to TM VIP 50Mbps (50dl, 20up) package and was told the stock TM router does not support unifi up till that speed. Only by cable. My questions:

1) Are we entitled to get a new router which can support the 50Mbps speed both by LAN & Wifi?

2) If not, any recommendation on what router to use to fully utilize the speed?

Thanks.
*
1. This is bolehland...
2. See other posts... Lots of review threads, articles and videos. If in doubt, go for the most popular router that meets your budget and requirements.

QUOTE(ongw @ Feb 16 2016, 02:25 PM)
I'm using a Macbook 2015 and Iphone 6+

@blacktubi LAN is able to reach 30mbps. Not sure what you meant bout wireless AC but I'm connected via 5ghz channel.

Thanks for the help so far but issue still remains..
*
Since, upon initial setup, you were able to get the full 30Mbps via wifi.. Did you take any other steps afterwards? Say like updating the firmware, introduced other electronic or otherwise devices that may have caused interference, etc? If not, try resetting the firmware, scan for wireless channels around you and switch to the least congested channel. The Asus RT-AC55UHP is a dual-band wireless-AC1200 gigabit router, but all those only matter if devices connected to it are capable of utilizing it. Finally, see if switching between 20MHz to 40 MHz channel bandwidth helps.

anyone facing very slow download speeds and high pings at night?

currently im using unifi 30/10. Max download speed is normally at 20mbps but at night im only able to get max of 3mbps using speedtest by ookla.

any solutions to that?
*
Check speedtest server & speed via wired connection, if still the same. Try to reboot and retest... Although, recently there have been a few complaints about slower speeds at night.. Peak hours for Unifi perhaps.

TM called me again and trying to pursuade me to take up th 30/10 package for RM179 + Ruby package .... No change in existing hardware but will have warranty coverage renewed on the old hardwares whereby if rosak, they will honoured the replacement. Mind you my current vip5 package is more than 3 years already. Can take or wait for something better to come up?
*
No! Since the 2 year contract is over... If you really need the upgrade now, best you terminate the current subscription & go apply for a fresh install & get new hardware.. Warranty & contractual period starts over again. If you don't need the upgrade at the moment, then wait a couple of months and see how.. There are some rumors floating around.

QUOTE(soonwai @ Feb 18 2016, 01:00 AM)
As many have suggested here, what you need is a new router especially if you want QOS or device bandwidth limit features.

Personally I'd recommend Mikrotik since that's what I use. The RB951Ui-2HnD is RM300. It's over your budget by RM100 but well worth the features. I'm sure other brands such as TPLink, Asus and DLink have routers with similar features too.

With regards to bandwidth, I'm actually in a similar situation as you. However in my case, it's my kids who are on Youtube sucking up bandwidth all the time. A single iPad can easily use up to 30mbps of traffic all by itself when buffering a video.

There're 2 ways to approach it, QOS based on ports. eg: higher priority to gaming ports or whatever boils your kettle. Two, limit each devices' bandwidth. I use number 2. It's easier to setup and works for everything including torrents. For example: I have 4 iPads in the house. If I allocate 2mbps to each of them, I'll still have 22mbps for myself. If none of the devices are in use then I'll have the full 30mbps. If you need more bandwidth you can just allocate less to the other devices. Youtube, for example, is watchable even if limited to 512kbps.

You can also do both if you like.

nope seem like u misunderstand me .I mean before i upgrade to 30 mbps, i have subscribe to different channel and wish to cancel it and get the channel from the new package  since the new package have the same channel... Hope i make it clear =) and tanks for the reply
*
I think I get what you mean.. You manually subscribed (usually from the hypptv remote control) to a single channel which ordinarily isn't included in the previously chosen packaged that came with the upgrade to 30Mbps... But now, you want to switch hypptv packs to one which said channel is included... Yep, just call 100 using the TM phone.. It's free.

Just upgraded from 10mbps to 30mbps. Previous 10mbps was consistently getting 9-10mbps. Which is good.

With the newly upgraded 30mbps (same stock TM router), I get 18-22mbps via wifi.
Remembered that a friend said he got 18mbps via wifi, after he tried with wired LAN, he can get 30mbps consistently.

So I tried mine with LAN cable too and it worked! ... getting 31mbps consistently. Lucky!
*Tested on both TM Unifi Speedtest and Speedtest.net

Now I'm wondering what should I do to get at least 27mbps++ on wifi .... rather lazy to change the wifi router.

here are my pics :

wifi router and modem (nothing changed since my 5mbps --> 10mbps --> 30mbps) :
[attachmentid=6024627]

now scouting for affordable wifi router  icon_question.gif  ... any suggestions (cheap is always preferred...LOL!  tongue.gif  biggrin.gif ) ?
*
You need to first get rid of as many network interferences as possible, starting with the position of the router & that DECT phone. Both need to have quite some distance away from each other. Then about routers, I get there's not much cash & cheaper would be better. However, we are talking about a router here. A device that handles and routes all network connections. Get a really good one (not necessarily the best/most expensive), not just a cheap one cuz it'll serve you better and for much longer than your TM contract. So evaluate your current network setup, devices & plan for the future as well.

QUOTE(Fat Cat Lim @ Feb 22 2016, 11:40 AM)
In early February, a TMNet telemarketer told me that the upload speed for 30Mbps plan has been upgraded to 10Mbps, so I agreed to the upgrade from VIP10 to the Advance 30Mbps A couple weeks after the call, I've yet to receive the upgrade. When I tried to upgrade via the TMPoint at UTC KL, they claim that there is no such 10Mbps upgrade for the 30Mbps plan, and they keep referring to their website (which has already reverted back to the old 5Mbps).

For those already on the 30Mbps plan, are your upload speeds constantly 10Mbps? I don't want to sign the contract if my upload speed is dropped to 5 Mbps. If it's already 10Mbps, TMNet is doing a really lousy job at communicating the upgrade in speeds to their on-ground people.
*
Well, most have had their upload speeds increased to 10Mbps and more will get updated. I believe TM reversed their decision of officially listing it as 30 down & 10 up as they are facing some issues with full rollout as initially intended. So better safe than sorry, they are back to officially announcing as 5Mbps up. As is, it's alright to sign up.

Today I experience extremely slow downloading speed. Anyone experiencing this today?

I am downloading the TV series LOST. The downloading speed used to be around 50 Kbps.. but today suddenly dropped to about 5 Kbps..

[attachmentid=6032679]

This is really slow! It will take 20 hours to download a 350MB file  sad.gif
*
Could also be an issue from the source you are downloading. Go download something "normal" & test speed.

this is default password for unifi wireless router/modem
username : admin
paswword : (leave it blank)

username : operator
password : h566UniFi

if we change the password, can we get update from TM or effect other technical issue? (update for router firmware or STB version or sometime TM operator will configure our modem from call center)

thanks

I'm unsure about router updates but can confirm that changing the passwords does not affect STB updates..

What's the final bill amount and breakdown? Perhaps, post a censored image of the bill. Sometimes as in my case, Mega Pack is free but they charge RM50 and later apply a discount of RM50.
