The difference between ieian81 and ikanair is the Uber fee (20% vs 25%) and car type (Viva vs Alza).

That's why fishwater is saying don't earn much, right?
*
My costing
Petrol cost 1Liter/10Km
assumption average drive speed 1km/1minute
average trip = 20km = 15 trips/day
average pickup distance 3km =15*3 = 45km

to drive 300km/day
i get from Uber = 300km*.85 + RM15= RM270
less 25% = RM203
Petrol = 345km = 34.5liter = RM69 (i use RM2/liter)

Rm203-RM69 = RM134

300km/day, every 33 days i need service car (1 year service 11 times)
Alza maintenance is not cheap :/
Tyre 60,000km change = every 200 days (say longer 365 days) change every year
Yearly cost tyres= RM600 (cheapo tyres at RM150 each)
Yearly maintenance cost = say average RM200 each = RM2200
Per Year = RM2800 (not yet include major parts replacements ), per month = RM233

In 6 years, i would guess car would kaput = replacement cost = Rm60k (resell 10k) need fork out 50k
Pay cash zero interest, car replacement cost per month (50k/6*12) = RM690

To drive 300km i would guess working 10 hours a days
say i very hardworking tongue.gif , 25 days a month = RM134*25 = RM3350 - RM690 - RM233= RM2427 (RM9.80/hour)

RM9.80/hour ohmy.gif
- have not cater for major parts replacement
- with 90,000km/year on road, chances of accidents increases - emergency fund needed (ever wondered why our current taxi are in such sorry state?)
- in sitting position for 10 hours a days is not healthy for your spine (remember to get health insurance)
- have not included those RM3-5 trips

Pros
- you get a car
- days of laziness tongue.gif for you to decide

Me? economic reason forces me to drive biggrin.gif
- count my blessings, i like driving

ikanairCar depreciation also need to factor in ke? If you don't drive for Uber/Grab, your car will also depreciate but not at the expense of high mileage. About the high mileage, any car dealer is going to whack regardless of the mileage anyway,
*
first car was Wira, last me 15+ years (at the end of those few years, monthly upkeep are about quarter to half of installment for a new car, not to mention quality of ride deteriorate alot)

at 90,000km/year, after 6 years and 540,000km, the ride quality would've force you to change or riders would rate your ride same as those taxi on the road

"Bukan di paksa, tapi terpaksa" tongue.gif

driving for own at 90,000km/year is different from having extra 1-4 rider in car for 90,000km/year, wear and tear would accelerate lots

Hi, if I plan to do Uber...i'm getting a used car.

atm, i have no loan commitment. previously I made 6k personal loan but paid all last year.

current salary..Rm1.8K:
- balance after spending about 800 to 1K.

car: ford fiesta or honda jazz:
- wife have axia, but she live far away. if she live with me i can use her car instead
- year 2014 or 2015
- i'm more inclined toward jazz due to sparepart availability. jap cars always easier to find spareparts than an european car
- i lead very simple life..basically home & work only
- prefer non-hybrid
- my place near honda sc. ford not sure got or not. bangi/kajang/puchong

uber-ing plan:
- after work. 5pm to 8.00pm. rest 1 hour. continue 9pm until 1-2am
- weekends morning start until night
- target rm500/week after uber commission..per month is rm2K
- 40% will put into car maintainence, including car loan and petrol. probably will have leftover which will be put into saving
- 60% will be kept for purchasing property
what's your say? buy jazz/fiesta?

or i better of purchasing below 100k house and use wife car instead?
*
You're prefect candidate for the dark(green) side incentive mode (easy minimum RM120 gross daily from 5pm to 8pm)
Weekends are just bonus

PM me for details

note: give your wifey the Jazz and you take the Axia tongue.gif

Don't buy a new expensive car to do Uber/Grab, it is a disaster in the making

the problem is that you wouldn't know if Uber will switch that request or not.
*
You accepted rider ping request with rider rating 4.9*, then halfway, Uber switch your request tongue.gif

Think tank table at Uber .........
"We have been getting complains from riders, request for pickup takes a long time to be fulfilled"
"Seems like low rated riders are being ignored by drivers"
"What are we going to do about those low rated riders?, our driver are not picking them up anymore since acceptance rate doesn't mean a shit"
"Ya, if they are not getting pickup, their rating will remain low"
silence........
silence.......
Bing Bing
"I know!!, lets just implemented a rider switch, we can always switch the request to a low rated rider"
"No way... our driver would complain like shit"
"No Worries, just say it is for their benefit"
"Ya.... we shall call it nearest rider switch, it is for driver benefit" tongue.gif

Guys:
Finally I tried using my friend's GrabCar (Economy) to try out one trip on my own. Shhh, it's secret on this okay. But what I can tell about Uber vs Grab. The only good thing about Grab is we know the destination, pickup point and $ for the fare. But the rest are all... lousy. Note I am not looking at the incentive portion and fees k..

The trip that I did yesterday was from Desa Park City to Kelab Gold Sultan Aziz Shah Alam was charged RM29 exc toll. So think was OK... followed the GPS and it brought me to the middle of the NKVE!!! Then it took another 10KM to reach the actual destination. Because GrabCar is a one time charge thingy, the rider refused to pay extra for the 10KM. But I am not that heartless to kick them out in the middle of the highway lar. My point is, if it's an incorrect location for Uber, then we won't even need to be worried as long as we don't complete our trip. Note that I waited for the rider at pick up point for > 15 minutes too.

Toll calculation is also manual... overall, Uber will still have my support lar.

Note: Despite picking up rich people, they are actually cheapskates.
*
Yes, driver App for Grab driver is totally fucked up now, the old version is much better, sadly some misguided techie soul in GrabHQ decided to follow Uber instead on making the good stuffs better

Grab Rider app also fucked up (or interface to Grab Driver app), sometimes rider put pickup location while in LRT station, haha guess what, most of time is ok, but if the LRT is next to a highway , hehehe, waze direct to the highway, can see LRT, but focking shit, this is highway , muahahahaha
- happen to me once

As Grab got no penalty charges for waiting time & cancellation, some Grab customer have not evolved past the stone age
- now Grab are the de facto transport of choice for Ma Pren
"Pren where r u?", "Wait there, i koming" common phrases heard daily for me, if you get a lady Ma Pren, the wait time >10 minutes and tel. no. lotsa time not contactable

With all above problem, I'm still driving for Grab biggrin.gif
It's like why some people pay a premium for an iPhone and insist on it, while i''m still on a cheapo android (XiaoMi)
- kinda tells you where the money is

I just completed my first trip today... smile.gif first I got a shock, when I reach the destination, it shows fare as RM0.00, it was weird and I thought maybe the rider got some free promo or something, then when I drove out, the app shows total pay out of RM30++ so I got a shock!, because I did not collect the fare from the rider. So now I am not sure if this ride is cashless or the rider should pay by cash and how all these work. Can someone enlighten a newbie please?
[I did swipe to complete the trip]

btw, mine is a 7 seater and I am not sure why it shows as UberX, shouldn't it be UberXL?
*
If there is no UberXL request, by default you will accept UberX also.
This is so you have more chance to drive
(hehehehe, Uber mumbo jumbo translation mean, you get cheated, customer happy, uber also happy, win win situation, but only you lose)
- last time on Uber, my Alza was rated as UberXL, i go service center to remove from UberXL

But..costing wise...think you would be driving for charity if running on 7 seater car

Learn from the Uber pro ieian81 , check out his car

RM76 OK ah? Sorry, actually 7 trips.

Considered lucky la but had difficulty locating one rider. That one really rugi. A hotel hidden behind wisma MCA. Gosh..and called the rider but can't understand a word he said.

Overall, started at Sentral to KLCC, Jln Ampang to Imbi, Cosway to Menara Felda, Traders to Times Square, Bkt Bintang to Tasik Permaisuri, Leisure Mall to dunno what taman inside Len Seng & Alam Damai to MV.
*
Rm76 for 4 Hours, Gross? or after Uber commission?

If you drive 8 Hours , get RM152 - (cost of petrol? maintenance?)

You have to decide yourself, is it worth it or not tongue.gif

Note: please check previous post by Uber Pro here, they making RM200+ to RM300+ / day
Just ask them nicely how to do it
(if after ask nicely, drinks and all, you still need a better income by driving, please pm me biggrin.gif )

I love this idea. BTW, after the Uber rider app updated to "where-to" the app became so damn stupid. For example, if a rider wants to pick up at One Utama, the previous app will show the pick up point e.g. Old Wing --> First Avenue / One World

Now it completely doesn't.
*
QUOTE(guanteik @ Jan 9 2017, 10:51 AM)
Last weekend I used the Uber Rider app from One Utama. It does not show the pick up point like how it used to be. I have to call the driver to tell him which pick up point.
*
Uber is not investing its technology+money on human drivers, any new changes to Uber Software is to prepare for self driving cars
Current loyal Uber Slave(drivers) are just expenses to be replaced as soon as possible

Self driving cars will be online and widespread used by 2020 in the developed world, count our blessing we are living in Malaysia, the land of boleh tongue.gif

My bet is on Grab to become the leader here, while Uber running on one policy for the world, will struggle to localized their offerings to suit local needs

if it's a boost or surge, i don't mind. since no boost nor surge, the rider have to settle by their own.

yesterday i got an incident, there is this rider who i drove there to pick her up at menara guocoland, damansara. i parked my car at the lobby and the distance is about 40m from there is waiting inside the aircon lobby. she insisted that i must make a big turn around the 1-way street to stop right in front of her and she refused to walk. as i was making the big turn around the building, she cancelled the trip. luckily i got the RM4 compensation and i just drove off after she cancelled.

she's kinda foolish to show displeasure to cancel the trip when driver have already arrived. it cost her RM5 and she need to wait for another car. LOL....
*
for these riders,

rider that want drivers to wait for them, while they take own sweet time (ya, know, it's hot, their time more valuable, etc.. etc... basically they just disrespecting the driver, they would love a personal driver, yet too cheapskate to pay for one)
arrived, immediately ping i'm here, 1 min passed, called rider, wait, at 5 minutes cancel and run
but............................. that is not good, sometime i bring up cancellation screen after 5 minutes, wait until see rider(remember don't do eye contact) , then cancel and drive off tongue.gif tongue.gif
You should've seen their faces from the back mirror
Yup, some called (i will complain to Uber/Grab), i always answer nicely (I'm sorry, i cannot wait that long, it is already xx minutes)

for the one that no wanna walk little 40m, why do u-turn? they already in bad mood, the drive will be bad
just cancel
or if i was in bad mood myself, i would drive around, wait a few more minutes and cancel, not for the money, but i got lotsa time, and they don't biggrin.gif

But I kena Driver like this.
Accepted my request.
Waited more then 15 minutes.
I was rushing to go see relative who just passed.
Look at GPS the car never even moved nearer to my location.
I called the guy no answer or anything.
Had to cancel to get another ride.
*
Accepted ping, open waze, focking shit!! the location is more than 5km(as this is Uber, you might get hit with a 1km ride) or takes > 10 minutes, as a driver, what will you do?
a) wait it out
- while waiting the rider may call you, do you take the call and explain the situation or don't take the call(no reason required)
b) call rider to ask for cancellation (need to explain)
c) cancel it from your side (this will impact the driver's cancellation rate)

a) b) or c) ..... i've done all of them biggrin.gif , frankly a) is the most convenient, it gives me some downtime to relax and best part is, no need to explain to rider

As a driver, anytime you take a call, any miscommunication and rider complain, you're in trouble
but......if you never take the call, hey hey hey, lotsa reason to give tongue.gif
