This industry still need talents - always. Dont feel sorry for them. By the time they graduate, situation will change its tides.

Why O&G everything must petroleum engineering only? There are many skillsets needed in this industry which required different kind of peoples.

It just seems like their course is very specialised towards oil and gas, so its like a must for them to enter the industry. I know a few of my seniors, even those with amazing grades, still having trouble finding jobs.

I think this situation only effected students that recently graduated and will grad this year (or maybe next year also). They have to look other industry as well outside from Petroleum/Petrochemical. Most importantly, attitude. Do not act/think like you are 'special' just because you are PE graduate.

Your seniors are beginning to get a taste of real life. The days of spoon feeding are over. Now come the real test of life and character. Now it is survival of the fittest.

I know that, its just seem so scary when you see other majors have higher hiring rate when compared to P.E which is like full of the brightest students in engineering in my universities case. I'm not studying P.E though.P.E students I noticed that tend to be the most driven with the most working experience/internships so its very competitive amongst themselves.

The brightest with full 4.0 cgpa doest guarantee you a success in this industry - its just a merely entry ticket to enable you being called for an interview. Employers tend to look for street smart candidates, and the most important is EXPERIENCE.

Trust me. I have attend tons of interview throughout my careers.

Remember that always eat a humble pie no matter what your rank is. I had eaten mine, A LOT. Hahahaha.

Gosh.

Banks are discriminating against ppl working in oil and gas sector now. One big local bank with stripes rejected my friend's application for a housing loan because he's employed on contract basis in one PSC company, despite him having a 5 star credit rating, and having a long time savings and current accounts, credit cards, previous Hse loan and car loan accts with the bank.

He is in the midst of closing all his accounts with the bank. Anyone know the bank's CEO email? He wants to write one email to him.

Btw, 1 local bank and 1 foreign bank gladly offered him the loan.
