To : Mr 1024kbps
I am having difficulties with .wtv from Windows Media Centre!
Doing tv recording and .wtv is so unfriendly + its HUGE! (running out of disk space...)
Any way to make it smaller without loosing much quality? (only recording at 720p)
How on earth people BlueRay-rip into .mkv so small and still retain high res high quality? (1080p)
Sorry if my questions are repetition in threads.
Thanks in advance to all for help!
How big is your hard drive?
Those live recoding video codec are more optimized for speed rather than compression efficiency,
video codec that use higher compression use more cpu resource and its slow, thus unsuitable for realtime encoding with high compression ratio.
you will need fairly powerful computer to caputre video with high quality + compression, eg, x264.
Those blueray rip was encoded with x264, most likely.
You probably need this if you want your live recording use less disk space,

You prolly can use VC-1 or h264 for live recoding but your must use nvidia GPU cause its CUDA optimized.
