Which 1 have a smaller size of video rmvb or mpeg4/h264 if convert from a same source.
*
like shinjite siad, its all depend on encoder settings and bitrates,
but iirc real video codecs/sdk developments has been stall for sometimes already, no update since 2006 june.
the video quality is inferior compare to x264 and other h264 encoders even its based on h264.

download smplayer, http://smplayer.sourceforge.net/
after install it, at menu there, click preference > go to advanced > go to "Options for mplayer" tab > type -lavdopts fast:lowres=1 on "options:" there.
the option lowres=1 will reduce the video resolution by 50% which doesnt require cpu resoures, lowres=2 will reduce further, but i think it only works with mpeg video + avi container.

if the video really smooth for u, try lowres=0 to restore the video resolution, lowres quite ugly lol.
sub display works for me though, im not sure coz the mplayer version u using is rc2, while im using the latest svn version.

try play the video again, then press CTRL + M,
copy the entire log, post here.
example:
» Click to show Spoiler - click again to hide... «

actually i know how to one shoot transcode ur wmv to divx/avi, but i dont think u even know how to use it, unless u know what its batch file tongue.gif

download xvid, http://tirnanog.fate.jp/mirror/XviD/XviD.cvs.head.MTK.exe
or dixv here http://www.divx.com/
once finished install one of the vfw encoder from above, virtualdub will be able to encoder ur video to the so called mpeg4 video.

if u wish to resize ur video, press CTRL + F, and press ADD button,
and search for resize filter, press the preview button to preview the changed resolution on-the-fly.
explore yourself tongue.gif

open virtualdub, and press F1, that should pop up a virtualdub help documents, although its outdated, but i think that should help alot. virtualdub not that hard to use, just the codec settings are too complicated for new users.

feel free to post here if u have any questions sweat.gif

youtube re-encode the audio to 56kbps, 22050hz and mono mp3 iirc, thats why the quality is low, unless they use he-aac.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Flash_Video

too bad i cant watch the video smoothly sweat.gif connection slow lol.

Added on January 5, 2008, 7:05 pmor try divx stage6, http://www.stage6.com/
it should preserve the audio/video quality if u use the correct settings.

u can try experiemnt with xvid encoder, 2 pass mode with target file size, use high quality settings. after that u can use the bitrate setting form xvid on x264 encoder, but its up to u tongue.gif

i think what usually encoder do is, lower the encoding bitrate,
resize the video resolution is not a good idea because of pixel interpolation will make the video look blurry, or other artifacts.

vbr mode is like that one iirc, if the part of the audio doesnt require such high bitrate to encode, then it will stay at lowest bitrate as set by user during transcoding.

and depend on audio player u use, some player will only show average bitrate, instead of dynamic bitrate info.

u can try mine config:

abr 134 -h --nspsytune --athtype 2 [--lowpass 16] --ns-bass -8
*
hmm, custom command line options is not recommended, unless u know what are u doing tongue.gif
and abr 134 is... sweat.gif quite a low bitrate setting.

maybe thats yours, but my requirement is very high
finally i hv successfully convert it in VBR mode but need to sacrifice to a big MP3 file size cry.gif

duh its depend on settings, and i seldom use mp3 encoder tongue.gif
highest quality settings for lame mp3 encoder = --cbr 320 -h lol
if this one cant satisfy u, use lossless codec instead? brows.gif

u can still edit further mar , below is sum refer examples:

simple  120 kbit/s
classical 160 kbit/s
global  170-175 kbit/s
metal  200 kbit/s
hyper  260-270 kbit/s
*
ok, but if u are using the bitrate settings from above with ur custom command line, the audio quality would be mess up, correct me if im wrong sweat.gif

cdex just utilize the lame encoder dll only, which dont have much options can be tweak on there.
the command line version one will give u the full power to tweak the encoder, but hey, its for advanced user only tongue.gif

instead of messing with the encoder settings, save ur time and read this:

u can play with Exact Audio Copy v0.95 b5.

if really higher quality, u can try with tis.  tongue.gif  i usually only use it on original cd which i borrow from fren and when i really like it very much the song in it.

--abr 160 -b 32 -B 320 -m j -q 2 -V 1 --lowpass 19.5

thumbup.gif
*
ur command line have ABR and VBR options appear at the same time, which will probably overriding each other.
and lowpass setting already incuded in preset -V0. again its not recommended to modify it sweat.gif

really high quality would be -V0 -h/cbr 320.

--abr 160 -b 32 -B 320 -m j -q 2 -V 1 --lowpass 19.5

either remove -V1 to get true ABR, or remove -abr 160 -b 32 -B 320 to get real VBR.
add --vbr-new for faster encoding speed brows.gif

strongly recommended to remove the lowpass options, its redundant and probably for experimenting audio quality only.

u have to choose "burn/create audio cd" from nero, and select ur favorite mp3/wma or other audio formats, nero will convert it to wav file and burn it to audio cd.

the .cda file u sees on windows explorer is some kind of "fake file" its a small file and its only readable by media player classic(or its external cda dshow decoder installed.)
only cd-ripper and som other cd-burner software can read the true audio-cd file.
its 16bit, stereo, 44100hz, 1411kbps uncompressed wav file.

so ur recomend for real vbr is: ?
*
should give u an idea which VBR quality to use brows.gif
http://wiki.hydrogenaudio.org/index.php?ti...ate.29_settings

if u wana get the technical details of the VBR settings used during encoding, add --verbose switch to the command line, with --noreplaygain -V 0 --vbr-new --verbose, output will look like this:
