Hi,

I recently bought a modified xbox360. Along with this, i bought a few original games and a few other ones (mainly coz i wanted to try them out and chances are, not like them and put them aside forever)...

To be clear, the purpose of the modified xbox was primarily o make copies of the games i bought.

I learnt however that despite having original games, i won't be able to use the xbox on Live, and therefore not be able to use multiplayer.

Assuming that microsoft knows if your xbox has had a firmware change, i started looking for modchips that do not require firmware hacks, and found a few options for modchips that do not require a firmware flash and automatically switch off when i am online...

Now my question is basically, can i get a modified Xbox returned to its original state, and then modify it with a chip sourced on my own to allow me to play back up games whilst simultaneously allowing me to play online with the original games. I am no electrical engineer so the process of modding is somewhat beyond me.

But as i find that my original game discs stop working after a little while (i found this out with the previous xbox and ps2), i want to be able to backup the games i buy..

In any case, any opinions would be much appreciated...

Thanks.

Regards,

Pars.

Hmmm.. i detect a degree of scepticism... ohmy.gif

Ok ok... i also bought a modified box so i could try shitty games that i don't really want to own or pay a legitimate dollar for. As unlike clothes, i cannot generally try before i buy.

I own 6 games now... 5 of them are originals...

The problem with CD-ROMs and DVD-ROMs is not their theoretical lifespan, it is the coming home after a night out and manhandling them into the machine, strewing them about, using them as coasters (sic) and so on... the practical lifespan for a disc is far shorter than the theoretical one...

I am considering another unit as the last option i guess.

But the question still stands, can i re-mod a modded xbox?

You can revert the firmware if you want to do that. And then after that, you can add any modchip you deem fit I guess.

You must have the original firmware in order to put it back into it's original state. As for Samsung drive you can find the appropriate original firmware version and replace it with your current dvd drive key. For instance if your Samsung original firmware was MS25, you need to find the original MS25 firmware and replace the dvd drive key with your hacked firmware dvd drive key. This involves opening your box and dump the current dvd rom drive firmware and copy out the drive key into the original firmware and flash it back into your dvd rom drive and you'll have your x360 back into it's original state.

But better be safe to have the original firmware. That's why I modded the box my own so that I can backup the original firmware and flash it back to the original state whenever I like.

Excellent...thank you for the response. Reverting the firmware is principally what i want to do...

I kinda bought the machine without really doing any research whatsoever... so this is just rewards i guess.

the modchip i am considering is manufactured by... http://www.team-underdog.com/

Is there somewhere i can get this done? I am not to comfortable with doing this myself...

Thanks again..

Ack!! i just noticed more responses so a quick edit... ok... no, i bought the machine modded so i don't have my own key... hmmm... hell, i don't even know if its a samsung drive, its starting to sound much easier to just but an original one... :-)

Once again, thanks for the response...

Pars

Personally, I would have two 360s in that case, one to play strictly jacksparrow stuff and one for LIVE, when you buy a game, if you want to buy the pirated stuff then test on the modded 360, and if you like it and want to play on LIVE with real gamers, get the original to go along with the original 360. It's an expensive jump to fully original games, I would know I made that jump six months ago.

As it stands, I think that there is little that you can do about the modded 360, this being because knowing the sellers of such goods in this country, they lost the original firmware. I would PM djinn on this forum and ask him for the best course of action.

Personally though, I from now on ALWAYS support original games and their developers and what not thumbup.gif

I am pretty sure he is about right with 1 and 2. Not sure about 3 though.

The only question is how long will Microsoft let modded consoles go on Live?

Actually you can revert back to your original firmware. This can only be done like I said, if you can find the untouched firmware (it's possible...I've found all the untouch firmwares for all drives, Samsung and Hitachi) that matches with your original firmware and ask someone that really know how to do it for you.... biggrin.gif

Original firmwares for Samsung Drive have 2 versions i.e ms25 and ms28. If your box was manufactured after June and your drive is Samsung, 100% possibility your original firmware is ms28.

As for Hitachi there are around 9 firmwares and version 0078 being the latest.

If you want to install a modchip and if your box is fitted with the latest Samsung or Hitachi drive, the installation of the modchip will be a bit difficult if compare to older drives as you have to remove the epoxy around the flash rom (the SST chip). One way for M$ trying to stop people to put a modchip inside the dvd drive. But yet it still can be done with a proper tool.

Here's to check wether your drive is a Samsung or Hitachi. Just eject your drive and compare with the picture below.

It depends on which firmware hacks is being used to flash into x360. If the shop is using the latest firmware you can play original and backup offline and online (XBL).
The question now is we really don't know when M$ will going to ban all the modded boxes. If you're really concern about XBL and you'll die if you ever to lose it then stay with unmodded boxes and play originals.

my 2 cents:

thts the reason they give out demos on live. personally, if i want to know whether the game is a must-buy or not, i will try out the demos first. then read reviews, online or in mags. or thru threads here.

if it's a damn good game, i'd save money to buy it. if it's a so-so game and not 'play-it-now-or-die' material, then i'll wait. probably just buy 2nd hand or wait till price go lower, etc. if it's shit, i won't buy it.

dude, where there's a will, there's a way. i respect your principle of having a modded console to 'make copies of your ori games' or to 'try out the game see if its shitty or not' but why spend the extra dough just to get a modded box + jacksparrow games to try it out when u can try the demo for free? sweat.gif

this is for those who have the intentions to buy both consoles: if you're rich enough to buy 2 consoles and probably pay for 2 games (eventually u will, even if jacksparrow costs RM1 still it's like..extra?) why not channel that dough into full ori?

my opinion anyways. but trust me dude when i say..just go ori and you'll never regret it. no worries for bricking yer consoles, no worries of which firmware/modchip to get, stable or not, no worries of gettin banned on live. the only thing u need to worry/think about is your financial mgmt. case closed. thumbup.gif

cheers dude, and merry xmas! ..an advanced wish if i must say eh? laugh.gif

p.s: sorry if any of my opinion offended u or somehow sounds like a repetitive nagging. smile.gif

Hmmm..wonder wwhere is the moderator???? Piracy is evil no matter what is the reason.....so, hope that u find a way to re-mod it to original or the easiest way..return it back to the seller n ask for the original 1...one of the forumers here had even traded in his modded console for unmodded 1....
