Expected result. Don't think we'll progress beyond thia stage anyway. Need a miracle for us to keep a clean sheet in the 2nd leg. PSG wont settle for a boeing defensive game.

2-1 very risky.... we might get a repeat of last season looking at our leaky defense... one away goal is nothing to PSG... sigh

Hope that is true. I think he is the right person to take over Hiddink after this season.

We going great against Newcastle just in time to get back our confidence... and Terry is a worry during that match. After what happened to Zou, hope Terry well.

And Baba is doing pretty well, if not at least covering well during PSG match. Look like Baba got his chance now that both our CBs out... Still PSG how did Zlatan manage to maintain his hungriness and fitness is beyond me. Second leg at home, our fans will be out 12th person I hope icon_idea.gif

From ESPN

Player ratings (1-10, 10=best; players introduced after 70 minutes get no rating):

GK Thibaut Courtois, 8 -- He knew he would have a busy game, and he was not disappointed. Made several decent stops to keep Chelsea in contention and could not be blamed for either goal.

DF Cesar Azpilicueta 7 -- Many of PSG's more-promising attacks came down his flank, though not due to any deficiencies on his part. Had his hands full with Di Maria but refused to be cowed or pinned back in his half, even trying to get on the end of a Costa cross in second-half stoppage time.

DF Branislav Ivanovic, 9 -- The Serb has had his critics at times this season, and justifiably so, but he answered them all with a commanding display of pure rugged defending. Imperious in the air and decisive on the ground, his only disappointment will have been failing to track Cavani's run for the winner, the only mistake he made all game.

DF Gary Cahill, 9 -- Another to have suffered at times this campaign, but displays like this will dissuade any doubters. Cut out more crosses than one could count and laid his body on the line whenever called upon.

DF Baba Rahman, 8 -- One of the forgotten men of the season, this was his best display in a Chelsea shirt by a considerable distance. Positionally excellent, composed on the ball and always looking to join the attack, the future is bright for the Ghanaian if he maintains this form.

MF Cesc Fabregas, 8 -- There were concerns about Chelsea's soft centre against such skilled operators when the team sheet saw the Spaniard playing in a more defensive role. The worries proved totally unfounded as Fabregas put himself about effectively while also distributing cleverly. Tired visibly as the game wore on.

MF John Obi Mikel, 7 -- It looked like being one of those days for the Nigerian, having been given the early runaround by Lucas Moura and being doubly culpable for the opening goal. Redeemed himself no end with the equaliser and did well not to earn a second booking considering the theatrical opponents that he had to deal with.

MF Willian, 8 -- Used the ball intelligently and with purpose as he constantly looked to spring counter-attacks. The only blemish was his dead-ball delivery, which, by his standards, was poor with the obvious exception of the corner that led to Mikel's goal.

FW Eden Hazard, 7 -- Linked the play well but did not offer as much direct running as one would have liked. Was withdrawn in the second half as his influence began to wane.

FW Pedro, 8 -- Fresh from his brace against Newcastle, the Spaniard was bundle of positive energy from first minute to last. Although not a natural defender, he never shirked his responsibilities despite being caught unawares on occasion and was a constant threat on the counter.

FW Diego Costa, 8 -- Will be wondering how he didn't score all evening, with his first-half header being the most glaring chance. Even so, he led the line magnificently, chasing every lost cause and getting an assist for the equaliser.

Substitutes:

MF Oscar, NR -- Never quite got up to the pace of the game, but did almost score a second goal that really would have made it a night to remember.

I say better ship him off. With that kind of attitude, he can go.

No passion at all. And his style of play is irritating. Yes he can get past player but if 10 players already inside the box what can he do?

He is just like joe cole

Thought we can hold for a draw but I think they deserve to win, they dominate our midfield and there's nothing we can do about it. It's a great away goal anyway. Hope we can win 1-0 at the bridge.

Maybe we can tempt Madrid to give us Bale for Hazard.

Inclined to agree with hiddink's assessment,we weren't lethal enough in front of goal. These 3 crucial chances come to mind when I look back on the 90 mins.

1. Costa's open header

2. Azpi completely mistiming his shot when pedro pulled it back for him early in the first half.

3. Oscar failing to get decent contact on fab's long pass.

I think if we scored first,it would've been a different game altogether and we'd definitely have more space to punish them on the break. Mikel was unlucky to be at fault for the goal as he gave away the freekick and was on the receiving end for the deflection, but you have to admit that was a cracking equaliser! laugh.gif

Baba was very good at LB,and he can only get better. That delivery for costa was superb and really2 should've ended up in the back of the net. Can't believe we've taken this long to try and integrate him into the team.

Iva was fantastic up til that point that he didn't track cavani's run. But overall there's definitely some substance in him striking up a partnership with cahill.

Hazard as usual flatters to deceive, with little to no impact on proceedings. Honestly I'd rather have kenedy or RLC in there. Doesn't matter if his head's already turned by psg or madrid,if he keeps this up either one of those teams will end up with the most expensive benchwarmer in football history. I don't see him displacing anyone in their first 11 at the moment, quite frankly.

Pedro was a livewire all over the pitch but will be a bit disappointed with his short passing accuracy. Could've setup costa for a run or two at goal with a simple pass, but just couldn't get the weight on it right. pity. Almost carried over his newcastle form but just failed to do so.

Costa was a menace in patches, but at times tried too hard to dribble his way out of trouble. Haih still can't believe he didn't put away that header. The goal he scored vs newcastle was 10 times more difficult at the very least sad.gif

Willian was alright but not on his usual high standards.

It's imperative we get as far as we can in the competition to minimise the impact on the club's financial coffers for missing out on a top 4 finish. There's still hope in the return leg if we give it everything we've got!
