I just upgraded my Acer 4741g laptop from win7 to win10 but now I can't find how to turn on Bluetooth option on my laptop. Before this I just pressed fn + f3 but now when I press it only wifi connection starts to turn on and off
*
i guess it's driver issue. i went check the acer support page of your laptop. unfortunately they don't provide w10 compatible driver about fn key combo stuff for your laptop.

alternatively you can toggle bluetooth on/off via action center.

i think you need to reinstall your bluetooth driver also. check in device manager if bluetooth is present.

the latest iso is available at techbench, https://www.microsoft.com/en-us/software-download/techbench

be sure to get the correct edition based on your current os. the common ones are w10 (including core and pro edition) and w10 single language.

I just got a new laptop which comes with  Window 10, everything seemed fine at the beginning till it started to irritate me when I realised:

1. I can't open image! I liked the feature before this where I'd edit image..

2. My mail, calendar, store all applications are not working! Everytime I click on any of these apps, it freezes then gone!

I don't know what's wrong, I checked all window updates are updated, tried restoring but not worked!

Anyone else is facing this issue and how to solve this??
*
1. which software are you using to edit images? the built-in paint or windows photo viewer, or anything else?

2. not sure about this one. i removed most of them when i optimized my os.

also, if you haven't already, use ssd as os drive.

QUOTE(AlexisStarZ @ Jul 6 2016, 10:45 PM)
hey guys need some help here
finally got a ssd for my desktop, so want to reinstall windows 10
but where to download ISO ?
using media creation tool ? or tech bench ?
if not mistaken, if use the media creation tool seems like download windows 10 older version
but how about tech bench ? is it newer windows 10 or same as media creation tool ?
thanks in advance biggrin.gif
*
use media creation tool or techbench. they are updated when new releases come out.

note that there is a new iso coming up (w10 anniversary update scheduled in august 2016).

1. I was using "Photo"and I know it's no longer supported in Window 10 or smt, I followed some instructions I found online and installed Window Photo Viewer to open & view my photo. Sad thing is I can't perform any editing using this window photo viewer like I did with Photo programme.

2. How to remove? U mean they're actually useless? I've signed with with my email accounts but sadly I can't even access now. Even simple thing ie calculator is not workable!
*
1. that's one of the apps that i removed. never used it before.

2. they're not useless. it's just that i don't need them. i use dws in pro mode to remove them.

also, it's better to use local account rather than microsoft account.

QUOTE(AlexisStarZ @ Jul 7 2016, 02:54 PM)
oo, I thought media creation tool is old one as I found its setup is end with 10586.117 laugh.gif

btw how do I remove my C drive that exist in my hdd ?
since my C drive that in my hdd is my OS, so when boot in usb, use the windows 10 setup to wipe C then install ssd ? for my D drive unchanged
but is it possible to extend my D drive ? since I wipe the C drive, definitely got unused storage, so can I extend the unused storage and extend it once finished install windows 10 in ssd ?
*
that's the latest i think. the rest are in cumulative updates which will be downloaded automatically via windows updates.

yeah you can just do what you described (i.e. wipe c and system partitions to avoid potential issues). it's however better to make a full data backup first. for much better experience a clean install is much better.

yeah installed successfully and extend the volume using computer management > disk management

but I accidentally delete it, all my files in D gone, luckily most of them are games, only some photo and video are there
now using recuva to restore back, took ages to finished scan it cry.gif
btw since ssd is not for torrent, so can I install torrent software in ssd (since I used it frequently) and set download location in hdd ?
*
oh :/ it's important to do data backup first. it's lucky for you that there were no important stuff in the hdd.

yes, you can do that. just point all write-intensive operations for torrents to hdd. i usually create several folders to store seeds, incomplete and complete torrents for this in hdd.

it should work fine. however if you still use hdd, it's better to change to ssd first. you will have a better user experience with that.

So I finally received an update to Win 10 after registered last year, I think. But when I tried to install it, at first it didn't tick 2 things, space and disk installer. Now that I've freed up enough space, I'm left with this disk installer which I have no idea how to solve. It says "Disk installer: The current active partition is compressed". Can anybody help? I've been waiting to update since the day of registration. Thanks
*
i think that's caused by the partition being set to compressed partition. you can reset it to standard partition by right clicking the partition, choose properties in the popup menu, and uncheck the option that makes it a compressed drive.

alternatively, as long as you have a legit key for current os, i think it's easier for you to do a clean install with that key. (use it after installation when you activate it online)

i do; in virtualbox 5.0.24. ms.edge is running fine here. (watching youtube vids)

maybe it's just me, but this build is running more smoothly than the previous ones.

could you pls do me a favor (actually do MS Preview Build insider) a favor

could you pls test in your build these

- open ms edge
- go to low yat net forum eg this page or find a news page where there are paragraphs
of text in sentences ie a news piece where its made up of different paragraphs

- highlight a few paragraphs as if you want to copy the text out

- with the para highlighted, click right mouse button and select COPY

-- this action is done like when one wishes to copy the highlighted text

- take NOTE now if MS edge lets you do a copy or if the tab freezes (don't worry
the OS wont freeze just this particular tab)

try to paste the text into notepad or some editor to verify that you had successfully
copied the text or if you cannot
that's all - this is for me where MS edge will freeze and I would have to close the tab
and reload the webpage - which happens again until I close MS edge itself - which
sometimes give the same freezing effect and sometimes not - ie its intermittent

thanks
*
it appeared that you're correct in idenfying a bug in the case of forum.lowyat.net. when i selected a few paragraphs of text, the tab froze smile.gif and yes, it's intermittent.

this however didn't happen when i did the same at msn news page. i did that many times, with different paragraphs.

Tried that, got an error. I don't know what the error is. Not a computer guy

Yeah, I think I still have it. How to do clean install tho?
*
i think i have given you the wrong idea about activation. from this link, http://www.howtogeek.com/224342/how-to-cle...all-windows-10/ old keys can be used at the activation screen during install.

just follow the steps in the link above and you should be fine. note that after this upgrade, you can skip the activation screen by choosing the option, 'i don't have a product key'. also, normally you don't need to do 'slmgr.vbs /ato' when the computer is connected to internet.

QUOTE(ricstc @ Jul 10 2016, 04:28 AM)
great testing

it means that its likely a more common bug than just for me
at least something in lyn forum paragraph kicks the freeze in although
what we see seem to be merely text like any other news paragraph

great work - let me know if you encounter any more of ms edge bugs and
I will get the bugnotice in to resolve in their coming or next after build

thanks a lot keep it up
*
the same doesn't get fixed in 14385 also (w10.pro.x64). you can check out event viewer for more information; related to microsoftedgecp.exe and wpaxholder.dll.

note that not all sites triggered this. i tried other forums it worked well. (at first glance, most of them using div instead of tr / td to format data)

rclxm9.gif

seems like a good deal, btw the upgrade is permanent right?
*
a better path is to upgrade, then clean up the disk and do a clean install. this will save you from all potential issues.

the upgrade is permanent if you don't revert to old os.

Is security  update  kb3172985  and cumulative  update kb3172985  the  same? Installed  security  update  kb3172985  yesterday  via offline  installer .... But,  I discovered  that Windows  Update  is  downloading  cumulative  update  kb3172985  in  the  background today.  I can't  stop  that.  It's  taking  up  all  the  network  bandwidth,  I can't browse the internet....
*
they should be the same. i use offline installer for cumulative update too (check stasio's link; 915MB for x64 os); didn't have issues previously.

know that it's normal that there will be delays for the os to process everything in background during shutdown, especially when fastboot is enabled (saving the os state to physical disk).

disabling fastboot means you sacrifice speedy boot time in order to have faster shutdown.

after selecting the defer upgrade options , I found that the windows update showed your device is up to date  . But , netsvcs process is taking up network bandwith . It's downloading something . I have no idea what is going on there  confused.gif
*
not sure what's happening sorry. just curious, how fast is your network bandwidth to the internet?

in terms of windows updates, i just turn off the option for windows updates delivery. besides that, i also turn off all apps that run in background. my network is almost always idle when i don't download stuff.

Ok well if it's a laptop, maybe you should find a hotspot (cafe or something) and do update. If it's a desktop, the better option is still offline installers. (Download it at locations with better bandwidth; it only takes few minutes to get the file downloaded, for instance, with 50Mbps connection)

your main purpose is to get the offline installers. i think any cafe have internet connectivity that's way better than 384kbps.

yes, w10 insider preview build 14393. some said it might be the so-called rtm (this is the term that many still use to refer to a final release build). there is no watermark in this build.

bro, just wondering once the anniversary update is out
is it recommended to do another clean install again ?
or just use ISO or windows update to update that anniversary update hmm.gif ?
*
not sure.

if it's like current cumulative updates (offline or online), we might not need to do a clean install. after all, it's w10-to-w10 upgrade, not cross-version w7/8.x-to-w10 like free upgrade offer. incompatibility issues should be relatively minimal.

Nice!

I have read about the new tcp features in the new w10 and windows server 2016. (Edge have the features by default) It's very likely i think too much, but build 14393 is kind of solid in terms of networking.

haha who aren't? luckily i need only a minimal set of software to be reinstalled in windows (dev tools, games, and virtualbox mainly; the rest are portables; just need to do some quick reconfiguration and it's done) also, most of my common tools are in virtual machines. (so i just need to run vms and i am ready to do my stuff)
