I have tried it severa;l times , i gt into the advanced startup menu and selected the pendrive that contain the bootable file , but the pc restart , no memory test , dunno what's wrong .  rclxub.gif

did you disable fast boot in bios as explained at the beginning in the article? if you did, disable also secureboot in bios. (normally not necessary)

please read the whole thing. there are many ways to do this in the article. if option one didn't work, try the next one.

i assume you're not actually technical savvy but wanna learn something out of this, so i try to help you out as much as i can. however, you really need to help yourself. btw, tenforums.com is a good place to learn about w10. go ahead and check their tutorials out. it helps.

try option two in the article. on boot, press repeatedly the key that lets you boot with other devices (normally on post screen they will tell you which key to press, eg. esc, f11, f12)

try this: once you're in w10 desktop, try reboot it (not shutdown). once the screen goes blank/black, spam (press repeatedly) the particular key that gets you boot device menu/options. the settings of fastboot and secureboot must be disabled in bios.

it's funny that you cannot do this, because it's basically the common way to boot other bootable devices (dvd, usb stick). it's just that not all mobos/laptops use the same key for this purpose.

what computer are you using? (if it's a desktop computer tell me the mobo model; if it's a laptop tell me the brand and model)

the correct key to spawn for common asus laptops is esc key. firstly i think you need to set up your bios properly.

1. press and hold f2 key, power up your laptop. continue to press and hold the f2 key until bios screen is shown;
2. goto boot tab, enable launch csm; make sure fast boot is disabled;
3. goto security tab, make sure secureboot control is disabled; press f10 to save and exit bios; turn the computer off.

then,

1. plug in the usb stick;
2. press and hold esc key, then power your laptop. press and hold until you see boot menu list is shown;
3. select usb stick from the boot menu list.

if this cannot work, i don't know what will sorry.

edit: after tests are completed (when you decide to stop it), make sure check the first part to restore respective bios settings to the original ones, or your laptop will not boot normally.

yes you can.

you have a weird asus laptop. i just happened to have an asus laptop running w10 beside me. the first part was what i did to goto bios screen. the second part was how i choosed different usb devices to boot. tested and verified.

i followed the steps that you told me , yet still boot to win10 . rclxub.gif  sweat.gif  doh.gif  btw , i have run the windows memory diagnostic tool , no problem found . Back to the topic now , it 's the gpu driver that caused BSOD ? P/s : I also got into the bsod setting theu the advancved startup options , but not thru pressing f2
*
ok. built-in mem tests are short and simple. however it's not that thorough.

yeah i suspected that it's your igpu driver.

maybe a clean install will make it work. (since you were not able to goto bios or boot from other usb devices, i think you never did a clean install before)

How long does it take to install Windows 10 after downloading Win. 10 updates? I'm downloading Win. 10 updates now (progress is 54%, bcause of slow internet), but I'll put my laptop to sleep mode & resume downloads 2moro.

Can anyone tell me whether it's worth it upgrading frm Win. 8.1? Frm wat I've seen on d internet, upgrading takes a long time...  unsure.gif

the time needed depends on your system (eg. how many software applications are on your old os; doing it on ssd or hdd). to cut the time shorter, you can grab w10 iso with media creation tool, make a bootable usb with it, and run setup.exe in it to do offline upgrade. you can run the same bootable usb to do a clean install of w10 later, after successful upgrade. (make sure the computer is connected to the internet during the upgrade)

before doing anything, it's safer to do a full data backup to external storage.

tbh, worth it or not, it's up to you to tell (it's really a personal preference). some adapt to w10 quickly and their systems are running fine; some have hiccups here and there and do not like it. in terms of costs, the upgrade is still free before 29 July 2016.

thanks for d reply!  smile.gif
this morning, I resumed d download, but d download failed towards 100%. I'm re-downloading d Windows 10 update and I think I'll juz forgo d Win. 10 upgrade should this current download fails, bcause I feel dat upgrading my Win. 8.1 to Win. 10 is juz too time consuming & too much of a hassle, due to my slow internet connection & bcause I'm juz not tech-savvy enuf...  blush.gif

good luck; yeah with slow internet, everything will be much slow. in such case, the better upgrade method is to download w10 iso and do it offline.

for things like os upgrades, it's better not to take it lightly if your computer is the main one for daily use. although it's not the end of the world, but disasters can be PITA. fortunately, associated risks that can lead to disasters usually can be minimized with a simple preparation and recovery plan (prepare for the worst; you can recover much more faster when bad things happen):
1. make full system and data backups;
2. download all latest and compatible drivers for new os;
3. download w10 iso and prepare the bootable usb stick.

Nice smile.gif

You should check if everything is working fine for you. Get latest drivers and patches from vendors if necessary.

personally i think w10 is getting better after recent patches.

note that i do have some system optimizations applied based on mainly blackviper's guide (www.blackviper.com/service-configurations/black-vipers-windows-10-service-configurations/) and some other sources. it does help make the os to run in a more efficient manner in terms of system resources (eg. disabling unnecessary services running in the background).

one question, Intel® PROSet Monitoring Service disable or not? what's that?
*
intel proset is a toolset from intel to manage network related stuff. i think this monitoring service is only available for certain intel-based networking products (i'm using intel wlan but it's not in the services list)

if you want, you can test it yourself by disabling it and see if it has impacts to your system. you should be able to turn it back on when shits happen hehe (i do such tests all the times lol)

Hi all,

Recently I updated to the latest version of Windows 10, and I'm very frustrated with it. After the update, it takes longer to boot up Windows, clicking on the start button doesn't show the start menu instantly (need to wait for 1-2seconds) and I can't freaking search in the start menu! Anyone facing the same problem?
*
after doing a full data backup, i suggest you to do a system reset. better yet do a clean install. trouble shooting an upgraded w10 can be a pita.

Thanks for the suggestion. I reinstall Cortana by following the steps below:-

http://answers.microsoft.com/en-us/windows...0e763858?auth=1

Doesn't work right away after the powershell script. I think it needs to re-download the updates and reinstall it. Then only it works.

And it is working now! Start menu start normally and search is working again!  biggrin.gif

Good for you smile.gif

Although machines here worked fine after w10 upgrade, i did clean installs to all of them just in case hehe
