notes: for those who use offline updates, there are 2 types of update files:

1. .msu - for this one you can just double click it and it will run and update automatically;
2. .cab - you can use dism command at administrative command prompt to install this type.

for instance,

dism /online /add-package /packagepath:R:\dl.tmp\windows10.0-kb3176931-x64_04587a629ee0dd3650ba8a492a0eb5107197b786.cab

replace the path in green color with the actual path to the downloaded update file. this was how i installed .67 in my machine.

1607 update takes time to propagate. since w10 is delivered as service, cumulative updates for older versions will still be available to cover identified vulnerabilities, until all have been moved to 1607.

They could have just stop 1511 and concentrate on 1607.
This way everyone is on the same page.

yes they could, but i think they honor the concept of windows as a service, which in general should take care of everyone during the transition.

My main desktop just got updated to Windows 10 Anniversary 2 days ago. Its original Windows 10 Pro license. So far no problem and like the some of the changes.

I also have 2 notebooks, currently running Windows 10 Pro and Home, but both actually free upgraded from Windows 7 Pro and Windows 8 Home respectively. Will this 2 "upgraded" Windows 10 get the Anniversary update too? So far I checked update, not receiving any notification for the update to the new Windows 10.

yes they will be updated eventually. you can also do offline in-place upgrade with latest w10 iso if you don't wanna wait.

Thanks bro. Not in a hurry, so maybe I'll just wait for the upgrade to pop up by itself.

oh man sorry to hear that :/

from all related online readings, there are several workarounds, but none of them works for everyone, including clean installs. this is nasty.

Edit: if possible please share the specs of your machines that are affected. So far my main rig and aw18 are ok. This weekend i might try my z97 build.

For clean install, one thing that i always do is to pull out my lan cable physically first, and do everything offline (os and drivers) only after all are done then i reconnect my lan cable for activation.

Desktop has no problems to get the Anniversary, best way is to :

1. Upgrade assistant, search for the upgrade site, download the assistant and it will download.
2. Go to settings-Update & Security-Windows Update-check for updates

I did mine on 2nd August but also bear in mind there is another Cumulative update after that.

After the update i do notice that at times the CPU and 'C' drive seems to have abnormal high activity which freezes the PC for 2-3 seconds, before this is was ok. Apart from that there is no other problem

update: i have re download Media Creation Tool, upgrade Windows (instead of create media), downloaded and let it install again. Apparently in the earlier download there seems to be problems in the file. Use the latest download of Media Creation Tool and Anniversary + Cumulative will be downloaded which is version 1607. It is running smoother now, with lesser spike and minimal freeze.

Offline install also failed? I also think you should try troubleshooting or do sfc /scannow

it could be normal. based on the feedback of our friend here, the time needed to complete upgrade depends on system configurations (in his case, ssd vs. hdd)

if you are still stuck with it until now, maybe it is something else. sorry i am not able to provide more useful steps to fix things.

edit:

i have tested my xps 15 that still run w10 1511. all updates went ok.

wow. when they started to put secureboot in our machines a few years ago, i thought of a huge mess that could happen one day. i didn't realize that it already happened since last march :/

http://arstechnica.com/security/2016/08/mi...aks-golden-key/

for those who haven't installed antivirus or antiexploit, it's time to use some. windows defender + emet 5.5 can be a start.

edit: this is not a joke. the keys could be used for many purposes (including deploying rootkits).

weird. what do you get in the event viewer? all failure should have some sort of messages in the event viewer. maybe from there you can have some clues.
