a better path is to upgrade, then clean up the disk and do a clean install. this will save you from all potential issues.

the upgrade is permanent if you don't revert to old os.
they should be the same. i use offline installer for cumulative update too (check stasio's link; 915MB for x64 os); didn't have issues previously.

after selecting the defer upgrade options , I found that the windows update showed your device is up to date . But , netsvcs process is taking up network bandwith . It's downloading something . I have no idea what is going on there confused.gif

know that it's normal that there will be delays for the os to process everything in background during shutdown, especially when fastboot is enabled (saving the os state to physical disk).

disabling fastboot means you sacrifice speedy boot time in order to have faster shutdown.

not sure what's happening sorry. just curious, how fast is your network bandwidth to the internet?

in terms of windows updates, i just turn off the option for windows updates delivery. besides that, i also turn off all apps that run in background. my network is almost always idle when i don't download stuff.

Oh i see, so mine is Win 8.1, can straight away upgrade without removing/disturbing currently installed software inside?

rclxm9.gif

seems like a good deal, btw the upgrade is permanent right?

Yes. It won't remove everything.

Ok well if it's a laptop, maybe you should find a hotspot (cafe or something) and do update. If it's a desktop, the better option is still offline installers. (Download it at locations with better bandwidth; it only takes few minutes to get the file downloaded, for instance, with 50Mbps connection)

Wouldn't recommend at all. Although they provide free WiFi service, it's quite bad - connectivity, stability, speed and security..
Unless you're only surfing net, casually checking emails, then I wouldn't suggest to go there.. My own 3G data is better than their WiFi

your main purpose is to get the offline installers. i think any cafe have internet connectivity that's way better than 384kbps.

no i think there are still many that are stuck too.

w10 anniversary update is coming upon or soon after expiry of free w10 upgrade offer. tbh build 14393 is solid so far. (didn't test edge's problems reported previously)

bro, just wondering once the anniversary update is out
is it recommended to do another clean install again ?
or just use ISO or windows update to update that anniversary update hmm.gif ?

yes, w10 insider preview build 14393. some said it might be the so-called rtm (this is the term that many still use to refer to a final release build). there is no watermark in this build.

not sure.

if it's like current cumulative updates (offline or online), we might not need to do a clean install. after all, it's w10-to-w10 upgrade, not cross-version w7/8.x-to-w10 like free upgrade offer. incompatibility issues should be relatively minimal.
