better don't cover the front cover, it's a duct which let air out and in, and most important, might be able to balance the air pressure.
if u simply cover it, might harm the diaphragm of the speaker.
for speaker that they design with seal type, the diaphragm is different, the internal enclosure also different.

Yeah, he's right about this and only audiophile speakers like B&W comes with a special foam to be inserted to the air duct as some speakers have two firing air ducts so the foam is used to fine tune the bass for Altec Lansing's case, their speakers were not designed for such purpose so I would suggest you to avoid doing so. If you want tighter bass, add sound dampening materials inside your subwoofer enclosure, you'll be able to buy those materials from Hi-Fi shops but please take note that such materials might cost half the price of your speakers so I'm not sure whether it is a worthwhile investment. Well, you should probably auditioned the speakers with own cds or dvds before buying them in the first place.

If you wanna simple DIY mod, buy some 3/4" or thicker sponge sheer and gum them inside the woofer box. I'm sure the bass will be a lot more pleasant.

There's a few more mods but unless you're well equiped and knowledgeble of electronics, its not entirely encouraged. The advanced mods can nudge it to another level on power output and improved clarity.

thanks guys for ur reply. for ur info, i can only afford altec lansing vs4121, as my family needs comes first. anyway i simply rolled & stuffed some sort of sponge that comes with de mobo and de bass tighter now.

if i stick de sponge to de inside wall of de speaker using dunlop or shelleys glue, won't de sponge melt coz de glue is petroleum based.

Sponge doesn't last forever, it will turn to a powder substance after a few years. In Cantonese, we call it 'fu zhor'. Get what I mean? It will be messy when that happens. sweat.gif

Try getting decent sound dampening materials.

Sponge will last long enough inside the woofer box..at least 3 years or more, afterall we're talking about modding a RM200 thingy and most would likely dump it for something more canggih in future.
Anyway, if cost is no object (in my case) I used audio approved sponge damping inside plus other electronic mods all worth a fair amount of money and effort. Whoever I sell it to (if?) in future, after listening to it, may have an erection. sweat.gif

Well, if the enclosure is made of solid wood from a tree trunk, I believe that will be the ultimate upgrade for a start since the speaker box enclosure has an impact on the sound quality but honestly, it's just a RM200 pc speakers, lets not get too carried away or have too high expectations, even the top of the range speakers are still nowhere near dedicated Hi-Fi speakers.

ATP3 has good bass but VS4121 has better clarity but bass isn't too shabby either. For techno music, I think ATP3 gets the job done pretty well. By the way, have you guys heard of VS4221, the bigger brother with extra 4 watts to the satellites and a remote control plus the subwoofer is housed in a solid wood enclosure. How does it compare to VS4121?

The sponge is not for increasing the bass, it's to make the bass less boomy and more focused. If it's under warranty, you better not open the subwoofer, you'll risk voiding your warranty. sweat.gif

There's this one other mod i know of....,they get a bunch of straws(yes, the one's used for drinking) and insert the whole bunch into the blowhole/duct...,wether or not this will give you tighter and more controlled base i do not know but you might wanna give it a go......

it won't melt as the woofer is made with medium density fiber board (MDF), sort of easy name "pressed wood" easy suggestion, try put ur woofer far from wall and corner, then buy two small carpet which people put at entrance of door, prefer those braid and cloth type. put two / three layer under the woofer, it will lighten the resonance and boomy of the woofer.

it's not from solid tree trunk it's MDF, or LDF.

hell agree, i just gonna suggest that, ATP3 sounds much cleaner than the 4121.
but what to do? 4121 always sound better in open space. and ATP3 sounds like no bass at all at the rack they sell speaker.

this is an great idea, i never though of it, teorically it can alter the air flow and hence reduce the woofer effect..

one suggestion, maybe u can change the potential meter of the BASS level to higher value.
so it might be able to reduce the bass, simple and fast.

Actually there's a another technique, by varying the length and diameter of the port, maybe inserting a fitting pvc pipe of different length internally. The length of the port (since the diameter is already of fixed size) can alter the bass frequencies. The effective length and diameter of a subwoofer port is seriously taken into the design of a subwoofer for desired frequency response. Nevertheless if the speaker is somewhat boomy (due to manufacturing cost reduction of this RM200 thingy), damping the internals can be to good effect, but to my experience because they used a rather underpowered chip amp, excessive internal damping can seemingly reduce the overall bass dynamics but with tighter bass lines for sure. Its a trade-off for a nicer bass tone in this case for the 4121.

Well, by comparison, VS4221 might sound a tad better as the subwoofer is made from solid wood as mentioned by AL's website, I never get the chance to hear it but from foreign sites, they gave it 4 out of 5, considered quite a good review at this rating.

So, what type of music should be used for that purpose? Errr ....... is it only effective when the music is played through AL 4121? Other AL models can, ar? No lah, just wanna double confirm with you. icon_question.gif

So, how's the progress of modding your speakers Bro? Do keep us updated on your new DIY project yeah. Thanks! notworthy.gif

You can consider buying Yamaha subwoofer lor, they have those units available for sale from a few hundred ringgit to two thousand plus. I'm using SW-315, bought it around RM990 last time, maybe cheaper now, 10 inch woofer and 270 RMS, very good bass and it goes very loud especially when watching movies with my Yamaha amp. Not sure that's what you want. Can get sakit jantung if you put the bass level at full blast. laugh.gif

You're not supposed to turn up subwoofer level where you can hear it loudly or distinctively seperate altogether. Its supposed to add to the side effects without drowning the rest of the higher frequencies.
Anway, Ah Bengs don't subscribe to appropriate levels as long as it suits their whim.

You cannot say people like that lah my friend, people who likes more bass not necessarily Ah Bengs what. Besides, a good subwoofer always have room for you to push the bass further, louder and deeper if needed, they have an allowance for more demanding listeners (more refine word).

Well, there's nothing wrong if you fancy more bass because I myself do like more bass when watching my dvds at home. The bass gives the movies and music the much needed oompphh so biasalah unless you're listening to classical or jazz, you might want a neutral sounding system so that it sounds natural and soothing to your ears but if you're listening to Akon, Outcast, 50 Cents, etc ...... a big subwoofer is a must. thumbup.gif

Yamaha subwoofer is a common thing actually, most Hi-Fi shops have it, you can try going to Sungei Wang, Plaza Low Yat, Midvalley, etc. Electrical shops do sell Yamaha subwoofer and they have various range to suit your budget but most important you listen first lah, see whether you like it or not. My subwoofer is close to a thousand last time and that's not considered mahal, my friend bought a REL subwoofer, it costs RM6000 plus but he orang kaya so different story lah, I can't afford that unless pay installment for 3 years lah. Hahaha. doh.gif Well, you try and listen lor, if not Yamaha, you can consider other brands like Infinity, JBL, KEF, etc.

there's one altec lansing stand alone subwoofer for sale, i think the model is XA 301 or somethings like that. looks like a bomb, u can add it to ur ACS45.1 easily.
but for yamaha woofer, u might be a bit troublesome to set it up. as u must has an crossover before sending the low frequency signal to woofer.... not sure the woofer alone has built in crossover or not.there's a lot of things u have to take in count when u buy those theather woofer. in connecting it i mean.

Those AL subwoofers are pretty old and are discontinued a long time ago, I never heard them before but I believe your CS21 will pawn them easily because newer model normally is a step forward than the older models, right? If CS21 also you feel tak cukup ooompphh, you should be getting a much better subwoofer.

Well, most HT subwoofers have a crossover inside whereby you can control the cut off frequency of your satellites (or speakers in layman's term), so you can choose say 40HZ, that means 40HZ and below, the sound will be handled by the subwoofer, the satellites handle the remaining frequencies. It is adjustable but honestly, HT subwoofers a little bit mahal lah but will give you the bass that you want, that type of solid and hard hitting bass that can cause jakit jantung, you actually feel the bass, with my Yamaha subwoofer at 40% of the volume, my table and chairs already vibrate liao and including the water in my aquarium too. Yeah, it's that powerful, with 40% of the volume and the bass level set correctly, you'll in for a surprise, that's something pc speakers cannot compare but it's not fair to compare this way lah because my Yamaha subwoofer is already the price of two sets of CS21 and you're talking about a subwoofer only and nothing else. There are cheaper models from Yamaha, as low as RM500 plus but I never tested it before, supposed to be an add on to a Plasma or LCD tv whereby the bass is severely lacking. So far, I never seen people using HT subwoofers for pc lah but the wiring no problem one, you can always modify it, 3.5 mm mini stereo plug to RCA.

No lah, my HT subwoofer is not for my comp, my comp is in my room, connected to my AL MX5021 but it can be used for a comp lah, the cable can be bought anywhere, less than RM8. Not very expensive, you can DIY yourself but I think no need lah, buy outside much easier.

Your budget around 3++ , right? Well, I'll search around for you to see if there's such a subwoofer suitable for your budget and no need to say lah, I know what type of bass you like. icon_rolleyes.gif

By the way Bro Narkon, my friend said Edifier not bad, he was referring to this model, http://www.inter-asia.com.my/Review/X600%28HWM%29.jpg but I dunno the price lah, he said the bass is good. You can listen to it in their Plaza Low Yat showroom. thumbup.gif

If you wanna use both subwoofers, can, can, you need to buy a splitter, you know like the Logitech accessory for the PSP, one 3.5 mm plug to two earphones. That's the cable you need if you wanna use two subwoofers but you test the X600 first lah, see whether you like the sound or not, Penang don't have this model but my friend bought it from KL but I never listened to his system before because his house is very far from mine. doh.gif That's a 7 inch subwoofer.

Otherwise if not, you can sell your CS 21 and get Logitech's Z-2300. Alternative method lah but pretty sayang also lah since your CS 21 is pretty new.

Remember to audition Logitech Z-2300 also, compare and see how's the sound quality, sometimes cheaper speakers can give you the sound that you want like those from Edifier and Sonic Gear but the power rating is not as good as your CS21, it might have a hard hitting bass but I dunno whether it is loud enough for you or not as some most of their models are not even half the power of your CS21, maybe bass good but not loud enough for you because some people (even myself) like listening to music or watching movies at a louder volume so that the sound got more kick.

CS21, ar? If you sell now, will rugi a lot lah because people will keep on nego, negeo until you wanna pengsan. I dare not say how much it's worth now because it's pretty subjective lah, it depends on the buyer lor, if there's a buyer willing to pay higher because your CS21 is quite new, then you're in luck but got some people dunno how to appreciate and will keep on telling that it is second. Get what I mean? You don't sell first lah, tengok macam mana dulu lah, okay? CS21 is not that bad you know, many of my friends like the sound too.

Yalor, I honestly don't encourage you to sell the speakers lor because when it comes to second hand ones (even if you bought it yesterday), buyers will keep forcing you to lower your price sampai you feel that it's not worth selling, rather throw the speakers into the sea for Nemo or Sharktale to listen than to sell them like Petaling Street prices.

So, where's your location Bro? Are you from Melaka? Don't get angry lah, Edifier X600 also cannot find in Penang but Logitech Z-2300 got la, I've tested it, it goes pretty loud, bass is satisfying but I didn't test with my own music lah but the bass definitely there but what I dun like is that it doesn't have a remote control especially when it's priced over RM500 plus. cry.gif

Well, if you can sell your CS 21 for RM300 plus, I think you can just top up RM200 like that enough for Z-2300. Just a suggestion if you manage to sell your CS 21 at this price lah. Of course, you must 100% confirm you like the sound of Z-2300 before you buy it. sweat.gif

Well, if you got go to Penang, I said if lah, you can go to 1-Stop Midlands, Gadgetzone shop on the sixth floor, find a guy named Ah Hao, he can test Z-2300 for you, they have one unit there for testing. I dunno about any shops in KL lah, I just go there tengok and if the price is good, I'll take it but since I'm from Penang, I'm more familiar with the shops here. Sorry, can't be of much help to you. cry.gif

seriously, you can find HT subs in Melaka Raya. You know where is the old Senyum? There's a car park beside it, and beside the car park there's an electronic shop selling speakers etc. They are more towards stage speakers and performance equipments like lightings, but they do sell HT subs. Get one active sub and get proper cables lo.

And by the way, its not a good idea to have 2 subs. Firstly, the dominant sub will overpower the weaker one. Second, different subs different sound signature, you mix them up and you'll get rojak instead. Thirdly, 1 + 1 don't always equals to 2. 2 subs means you have 2 drivers pumping the lower frequencies. At the point where the sound waves bump into each other, it will cancel each other off and you'll actually get milder bass that what you current has. Still remember a chapter on "gelombang" in your high school physics?

Unless your speakers are 2.0, then yes, getting a sub will allow you to obtain a fuller sound spectrum, but 2.1 + 0.1? I'm pretty sure it will be a waste of money. If your CS21 really doesn't suit you, just sell them off lo. There are a lot of speakers that produce heavier bass, let alone the price might be cheaper than your current CS21. Name a few: atp3, Eacan, Klispch GMX2.1...

I'm not saying that Sunauto is wrong. But i do understand that some audiophiles have 2 subs in their system. That is also due to its placement. Maybe one sub at the front one at the back, or one at the left and another at the right if the room is big. Accurate planning is done to ensure both subs won't interfere with each other to produce clean and accurate bass throughout the room.

And that also is done by 2 similar subs, not 2 DIFFERENT ones.

As for you, its better if you just change your speakers. I guess you know CS21 is a decent set of speakers, but what can you do if it fails to meet your requirement? Its just like you bought a Myvi but your preference is you like to drive fast. Won't it be better if you just sell the Myvi off and fund for another car, rather than to do engine-transplant on the Myvi?

Or you can try replacing the sub of your CS21 with HT sub. I mean replace, not compliment. And please bear in mind that audio manufacturers don't design their products via the modular way. They tested the speakers to make sure they synergize well before they mass produce it. Thus you won't see CS21 using the same sub as atp3, or MX2051 with CS21's sub. You MAY try mix and match, but it will alter the original sound signature completely and the outcome might not be what you like.

Well, Bro yrh0413 is right to say that it's pointless to use two subs because if you're getting a better sub, why bother using the weaker one and if you're getting Logitech Z-2300, a complete 2.1 system, I don't think you really need to keep your CS21 anymore. For my system, it's different, my Yamaha A/V amp supports two subwoofers (must be of the same brand and model of course) but for your setup, I think, you gotta decide whether you wanna keep your CS21 and find a better sub or replace the whole system. There's a 2.1 speaker which is quite good but pricey, it's called Aego M if I'm not mistaken, that's rated five stars by What Hi-Fi UK for this year, I think some members are selling it here, should be around RM780 if I'm not mistaken, it's by AE, very famous loudspeaker company in the UK.

AegoM ain't his cup of tea. The bass is mild, very musical type of bass. The higher end you go, the more refined sound your speaker will produce. No more exaggerating and overwhelming bass that eats up details, no more thump-in-your-face. You'll hear details you never heard before. MX5021, Klipsch, CS21, AegoM, Megaworks 250D etc... all these speakers produce more accurate sound rather than emphasizing the lower frequencies.

narkon, just sell off your CS21 and get another set of speakers. You may audition the speakers you want as long as you like, then only make your purchase. Music is not about getting lots of bass anyway. smile.gif

Well, there's only choice left Logitech Z-2300, the bass is boomy and loud, it should suite Bro Narkon's musical taste but I still like Aego M, it's not bass shy but it's very accurate sound pair of speakers, just love it but of course, I still love my AL MX5021 lah. tongue.gif

RM380 for a 2nd hand set? Most people will rather pay a little bit more to get a brand new set with full warranty instead. As for clear sound, it is because your bass doesn't overwhelm the mids and highs. You crank up the bass knob, it eats up the details. There's always a balance there.

erm... from AL vs4212.. to CS21.. to MX5021's and Aego's..? blink.gif

I have one question.. similar to the ATP3's.. I also noticed that VS4121 have 2 different batches.. one with the blue LED indicator and another one with the yellow/green LED indicator..

The later one is the one I've tested.. music sounds bad especially the mid range/vocals.. same with movies, can hardly make out what the characters are saying on normal volume..

However, when switched to playing techno/dance songs, the bass and treble excells well, but can get a little bit woozy when paired with PSC805 with QSizzle and QRumble enabled.. sweat.gif

Any VS4121 users having the 'earlier' blue LED batches care to give some comment..?

If you don't have access to a desoldering and smd device workstation, forget it. Conventional removal may risk untold pcb damage.
Couple of chips there can be swapped for better ones. Perhaps the easiest and DIY mod is to obtain and install fairly thick acoustic sponge padding onto the internal walls of the woofer box. The TDA7377 chip is somewhat a bit underpowered.

Well, my old junk AL ADA305 also sounded better than some of the precier AL models too because the subwoofer is made from solid wood, it might be underpowered but the sound is more superior and the total weight of the speakers are indeed heavier than most of the last AL speakers. Cost cutting measure I guess. sweat.gif

If your vs4121 is under warranty, do not attempt to open it. Not worth voiding the warranty just to take a peep inside, you know what I mean? sweat.gif

Given to me by a very good friend, perhaps from excess which he has used for room damping. I've seen some 1" sponge sold at a hardware/DIYhandy shop here at Taipan USJ. Acoustic sponge its not exactly cheap as Tong Lee does sell them for more than a 50 buck note a piece. End of day, its entirely up to you how much one likes to spend on modding a RM200 speaker set.

Yes, you have to be careful pulling out the back module as the speaker wire to the PCB is very short and risk ripping it off the woofer. I've said earlier, I didn't take many pictures so I'm unable to show exactly how to remove the panel. If I remember, there was some difficulty because they put some epoxy adhesive onto the connectors. I reckon these measures are to prevent tampering and repair. Spoilt?..throw away buy new one!.

The sponge (as seen in shop) comes in some colors, 1" thick and about 18" x 20 something inches...unsure what its actual purposes at a DIY hardware shop in Taipan USJ. I've seen some at tailoring supplies shop but its too thin.

About 3 months ago, my VS4121 developed a problem....

I get microphonic effects when I touch the cables. The effect mainly comes from the cable that connect the sub module to the stereo speakers. Any ideas how I can solve this problem? I am guessing a rounding point probably came loose.

Jason biggrin.gif

ps-by microphonic effect, I mean: when I touch or cause the cable to rub, I get an amplified "rubbing" sound coming out from the speakers too.... weird?

Jason, since you're handy in DIY, you can remove the amplifier module and inspect it closely if there's any broken or dry solder joints at those connector areas. There's 2 modules inside, namely the amplifier board fastened by 4 screws and the PSU transformer assembly above it also fastened by 4 screws. The manufacturer has used some epoxy glue to fasten up some cables and areas for obvious reasons. You may have to use some ingenuity here for removal and its of course not impossible.

Here's a pic of the main modules.

I've the VS4121 with blue LED, but I've never heard of the yellow LED version, so can't tell the difference tongue.gif
BTW, I wanted to mod the amplifier, but I can't figure what I should mod, any suggestion?

I dismantled the subwoofer and below are the pictures of the amplifier

hmm, it is true that vs4121 black edition is the newer version of vs4121??
and the newer is the cutcost version?
the first time I bought these I'm kinda dissapointed, it just doesn't sound like what in the review.
I even thought that it's fake speakers or something like that..
mx5021 have dropped its price from 210$ to 170$ also!
but some tells its a cutcost version too..
ahh, is that for real or just a bad business campaign from the competitors?? sad.gif

oh.. and in previous post some say they found vs4121 in yellow LED?
vs4121 with yellow LED is never exist! except if thats some kind of modification though--

ohh, sorry for the misinformation..
according to the video on the youtube (that nismo tells us)
the earlier(first time) vs4121 are using green LED. .
then it changes to blue.
at the 70th anniversary of AL, they create the black edition with red light..
also heard that the earlier version(with green LED) are better.
the new ones are cutcost product.. but I just heard it somewhere, not a fact yet..

erm... i did my altec by replacing the 2 satellite output cap (either 2 sticktogether 1000uf for most models or 470uf for atp3) to 16v 2200uf according to the datasheet tda7370b,tda7375 and tda7377
you can also improve the bass by replacing the 16v 220uf cap right before amp ic(tda73XX)
replace the china, taiwanese 'samxon','capxon','gluxon' whatever cap to better ones

i've got mine 16v 2200uf elna re3 for rm1 at KE electronics jln pasar
you might find 220uf for your smoother bass there too i think
and if you are there, you might want to buy fake elna lp5 4700uf for rm5 for your power cap beside the transformers (nnot in pic)
forget the sponge sponge thingy la.. later your amp overheat no space to breathe

small price for your rm200 speaker but goes a long way =)

i'm no expert, but i can try to help you since i'm an altec fan and i have a collection of most popular models
your problem description is vague, do you mind to explain it in better detail? like eg. i've tried changing the input cables, it only happens when i crank up the volume?

common altec problems:

if your 3.5 jack is oxidized, cleaning with lighter fluid (zippo) and a rag would suffice, also look for deforms on your input cable

if the volume drops at a high volume like it has not enough power to boost, then probably you should replace the caps i mentioned above with better ones because altec cut cost use lousy caps.
also you will get significant sound quality boost after mods/repair

also, i guess you don't have a soldering iron and skills, you can purchase it for a cheap price at your local hardware and learn the skills from googling.
remember to practice before attempting to repair/mod your altec..... altec comes with cheap pcb and the trace easily gets ruined =)
and if all fails, buy a new one =) i hoped i helps

your 3.5 cable has oxidized OR your soundcard ones has oxidized have you tried with earphones, other devices?
you can buy a new cable =) or you can clean your oxidized 3.5 by using an emery board (to file your fingernails) gently rub the contacts and wipe it with wet cloth would suffice, if its in your soundcard, you can try using an cotton earbud soaked with WD40 and poke poke the contacts inside
wait it to dry up then try it again, if fails... do what power911 tells you to do =)

i suggest you change TDA7377 (30w) to TDA 7375 (35W) this ic amp also used in old batch atp3 which widely know as the best speaker sound to it price. deep bass will never make you regret. by changing caps it sound better but how better it be? it worth to pay? the core bussines here is IC and driver... after all has been mod capacitor will be the last part you should play with. (fine tuning ur taste). good luck cool.gif

hmmn down firing is good, if properly implemented... atp3 has fairly good implementation because its versatile construction, can be placed anywhere and will be consistant
side, fornt firing ones need to be placed in the sweet spot =)

only downside in altec lansings is the heat sink placement, size, shape and the box not fully wooden. the plastic parts makes sounds vibrate

down firing is good when the subwoofer is huge... but I don't recommend small speakers to have down firing subwoofer cuz they are too weak
front firing is great on big and small speakers. but yes... the position is very important

Guys, my VS4121 recently decided to give up halfway on me. Meaning only the left channel ( the one without controls is functioning). The right one is silent. I'm guessing that the cable is damaged or something.

The controls work perfectly fine. I wonder if I can repair this problem or DIY it. But I don't dare cut open the thick cable without knowing what's inside.

Any help sifus?? smile.gif

try to disassemble the right speaker by removing the rubber pads to reveal the hidden screws.

no screws? that's sad...
if I've caused any problems... I'd say sorry first

knobs come off once you found the screws... so do that later

you sure there is no screws hidden there?

The amplifier board inside need diagnosis and repair. The last time I did one with buzzing was a dry joint at the PSU section which the main filter cap was having a loose solder joint. Resoldering the points did the trick. Could be coincidental with others having buzzing sound, I won't know.

I modded the VS4121 by changing the voltage regulator to a 12V one, it improved the sound tremendously. The original one was 9V regulator and supplies DC to the main TDA chip.

sometimes it is also because of the wire starting to die off. that causes the buzzing sound.

just an opinion smile.gif

40-50VA at the most, 1.5Amp maximum, not exactly optimum but useable. I remember a previous model had slighlty bigger transformer. All due to cost reduction.

....atp3 runs on tda7375 i think.... =)
12v to 14v 3 to 4a
if you use a lower than 3 to 4 it will greatly reduce your bass performance
especially on high volume but it will work =)
have fun, but if you are noob at this... get someone with experience to change the high voltage section for you... you might get kill if not careful

mm... common stuff
but forgot the solution. try oiling the volume knob potentiometer with WD-40? or some sewing oil.
it should smoothen the connectivity. if not I guess you've got a busted volume pot

Wow..still got fans for this speaker set. Back in 2006 I mucked around with this set, actually still have mine sitting in the store, may re-use someday. I modded mine to what I thought was great and not to break the bank. I can't recall all the stuff I did to it but it was extensive.
1) Replaced main chip amp to TDA7375 (slightly higher output) from existing TDA7377 (I could be mistaken ah..so long ago)
2) Upped the regulator to 12V from 9V to increase voltage to opamp circuitry.
3)Increased PSU cap for higher ripple current
4)Changed a couple of opamps (can't remember if SMD type, think it was to LM6172 from jelly bean types.
5) Padded the interior of the subwoofer compartment. This seriously damped the vibrations and also makes the woofer more power hungry. Damping does incur some efficiency away. Take some loose some..no free lunches.
Lastly the satellite speakers are glued sealed tight and any repair require ripping it apart in whatever method you choose, risking breakage. This speaker set wasn't designed for repairs and mods. Use as is. Lastly, never found any circuit diagram. Overall improvement to the sound made it more enjoyable to listen, tighter bass at high volume and for whatever its worth. No going overboard on this, not worth it. Its still a RM260 worth speaker system, nothing more. Lastly, I'm not offering to do any of these mods for anyone. My interest is not this stuff anymore.

Still using altec landing vs4121 (bought in 2009) but now connecting to TV , most of my condo neighbors cant tahan when I start "frying" song. So no good reason here to upgrade the sound system...

Mine just suddenly couldn't switch on. Weird, just no power but working well the night before.
