Monthly? Woah.. that's a bit too frequent right?

Googled up the DIY cleaning video for my grinder and managed to take it apart, cleaned it but wasn't able to remove all 100% of the coffee powder but I'm satisfied with the final work, forgot to take pics of it though.

I only make max 2 cups a day, so I think back flushing weekly is fine.
*
You have left over coffee grounds in your grinder, depending on retention amount and humidity leaving the ground in the grinder for 30 days is too much?
some ppl don't mind leaving ground peanut butter on the knife over a month and reusing it, but I prefer cleaning it after I am done.

U can do backflushing weekly, better than not doing at all. Keeping group clean so that what is left there wouldn't affect the taste of your coffee.

how clean one like their things really personal. some ppl wash jeans weekly, other annually or never.

I plan to get a simple coffee roasting machine call quest M3, rm 5400, shipping fees 85 usd via EMS from taiwan. How much custom tax? GST? Can avoid those tax if i travel to taiwan & bring along check in flight?
Whats the comment on quest m3? Other better roaster at similar price range?
*
5400 not simple at all, 300gm capacity

There are many less expensive ones

From my last visit to Starbucks roastery in Seattle, their reserve is ship out of Seattle. One not expected to find a lot of them. Expensive beans, their roastery exclusive beans cost even more! Usd$22 for 8oz. Not impress with them.
http://www.thestarbucksroastery.com

At the HQ beans are degas for 7-10 days before they serve. Not tried it there cause across the street I have victorla, 5 mins away I get slumptown

Hey when you guys get fresh roasted beans do you guys check the beans before use?

My Grinder (Encore)  Burr Holder Flange broken already. cry.gif
*
No, I don't check
What do you watch for? Light roast? Some roast is supposed to be light.

From here, seem like u can weed out b4 roast easily. Roasted seem harder

Quakers can be brittle like the rest of the beans. You found quakers in your beans?

you dont normally do 'cupping' after roasting?
*
Under control system maybe need to cup once to make sure setting is right. With change of beans maybe should do it. But it's not normal to do it really if one cannot tell diff. If one makes milk base drinks subtle diff often masked.

How good do you need?
Which delonghi model?

Name brands you are limited unless u want to buy Chinese brands on taobao. Someone claim they better value as they lack of marketing

Your budget really cannot demand for good. Most ppl here definition of good is a HX. I own a themo block machine but they are like 4-5x your budget. It last me like 10yrs

I go through 1kg in about 2+ weeks (about 4 lattes per day) which is not ideal but I've lived with it for the past year or so. The coffee arrives within 1-2 days of roasting so a bit too early, and by the time I finish it, it's past the peak.

The ideal for me would be 500g every week.

Lucky good have access to machine to drink so many a day.
I will have to bring thermo to office.

Tried it a few times on my Hario Mizudashi cold brew maker.

Still prefer my normal pour over/drip/aeropress coffee.

Plus the ratio of coffee beans to water are insane.
*
My spouse enjoy Hario Mizudashi.
The ratio for cold brew pretty normal, I used like 115gm to 1 litre

This method 1lb to 2litre

this one is multipurpose

http://www.mudah.my/Grinder+Machine+for+Sp...in-58222046.htm

It can grind coffee, green bean, rice, wheat, sorghum, corn, chili, soybean, walnut, sesame, jujube and pepper etc.

it only take half minute to finish.
