QUOTE(Dan430 @ Jan 4 2017, 03:00 PM) i dont think its an issue if you know what you are doing. it only becomes an issue when you screw up. because coppers are relatively soft and delicate and the right tools is super important. dont use those inaccurate spanners and tools made in china. coz that will screw everything up. @D33 has vast experience in tearing up the oscar and did some mod. if I'm not mistaken it should be around pg 50+ haha @luvox our water is not really as soft as SG, but still quite soft la so 2 years once is ok i think! I've not descale mine yet and not looking forward to it SG bought water from us right, treatment done to remove hardness? Anyway for ppl doing it for the 1st time no way to really know what you doing. You sort of know from reading or watching YouTube. It's not like one can get an experience one to stand by your side to guide you. DIY ppl always learn from mistakes, you earn experience that way. No one born with experience or know. Just make sure you done enough prep

QUOTE(ymeng85 @ Apr 3 2017, 10:27 AM) Time and electricity taken to get the boiler up to temps then make 1 cup and shut down But enthusiasts will love them. When you wanna re-calibrate and pull again or want to do a tasting session of multiple single origins side by side These machines will get you the consistency you want so you can just concentrate on the recipe Usually if you have this kind of machine, you'll be asking friends to come over all the time. Family too! Well some ppl make 2 shots! Don't think it will take so much time to bring up to temp. It can make 240 shots an hour, that's over 5L

QUOTE(frozen7 @ Apr 25 2017, 06:32 PM) May i ask if which one is more suitable for beginner since you have tried most of the brewing devices? Pour over method supposed to require more skill right? key qns is what kind of coffee do you drink? I drink only mostly latte and that limits the brewing device.

Most Ppl in cold country runs furnace to heat up the house or some form of heating. Here ppl may have climate control cooling, wouldn't help to keep machine warm
Easy way is test these 2 side by side. Dont know the 17% up in power will make up for the mass increase. Between shots better at retaining heat with the mass.
Iirc when I had my HX in my cool basement (temp ~18-20c) took me ~20mins, now maybe ~15mins even in winter. Then my boiler 250ml smaller
If you comparing to your current machine that a 15-20x increase of time!

QUOTE(dominicpcl @ May 10 2017, 01:14 AM) Thanks lowkl on your recommendation of grinder too. Seriously I'm lost now. I know it's best to save for the best but that takes a lot of time. My friend persuaded me to get a grinder as it gives better taste as compared to pre-ground coffee. However, I never expect a good grinder can cost up to rm2k. Noob me.. Best grinder over rm2k easy I.e. http://lynweber.com/store/http://www.espressooutlet.net/mahlkonig-k30-air-grinder/? Don't mind the trouble these maybe your best bet http://www.oehandgrinders.com/OE-Manual-Co...inders_c_1.htmlThis post has been edited by patryn33: May 10 2017, 12:28 PM

QUOTE(ymeng85 @ May 10 2017, 01:30 PM) Bro you're crazy lol Why not throw in the Peak and EK43 while you're at it EG-1 cost more than peak and EK43 if you can compare numbers and it's on the list of examples. Examples no need to be complete 😅 Again it's just for his awareness As for crazy, there ppl out there who buy those for home use. This post has been edited by patryn33: May 10 2017, 09:31 PM

QUOTE(vincabby @ May 15 2017, 11:21 AM) hi to all, i am new to all this make yourself coffee so just want to ask an opinion from everyone here. i got some ipoh coffee grounds and i am using the pour over coffee way to filter them. a friend told me ipoh coffee grounds has a lot of ash so better not to drink it. Is he correct in saying that and if so, what would be the best way to filter them grounds? thanks for every information. Ash tasting? As in alkaline? Or texture? What is bad and don't drink it? Your friend worry about acrylamide? Where you buy your Ipoh coffee? http://www.star2.com/people/2016/04/11/pha...egan-the-trade/QUOTE(vincabby @ May 15 2017, 07:10 PM) not too sure either. prob he thinks it's the ashes that give the coffee from ipoh that bitter than usual taste? personally i find it ok. anyway thanks for the reply and recommendation. You may want to get the details from your friend. This post has been edited by patryn33: May 16 2017, 05:30 AM

QUOTE(lowkl @ May 27 2017, 10:41 PM) Explain to me again as to the cons of the Breville double boiler BES920 vs anything in the same price range (circa RM 5k)? Thanks in advance! Biggest CON is quality, built to last for how long? If you don't mind repairing or buying another after few years great machine. Otherwise forgo the PROS and opt for a expobar HX, can easily last over 10yrs There is a good reason why plenty of refurbished out there. Either they break down easily or some ppl just don't like it This post has been edited by patryn33: May 28 2017, 10:08 PM

QUOTE(kenlui @ Jun 3 2017, 02:19 PM) How often do u guys clean your group head with the cleaning tablets? and for grinder as well. my grinder is 2 years old and has never been cleaned internally nor serviced. Some ppl do it weekly otherwise monthly. Really depends on how much coffee u drink. You should back flash daily before turning off machine. As for grinder will do it monthly. Open it up and clean out the burr. You may have to readjust
