How was highlander bean taste? Found out that Highlander is singapore based company.
Urban cafe coffee taste does not give me a good first impression. At least Arnold Cycling Cafe coffee is better than Urban.
*
Ya, highlander is from singapore. The first package i open is costa rica. Strong aroma & taste. Good crema. Im not good at describe the bean profile. Haha.

Thanks for ur suggestion arbold cycling. I dont know they do sell bean. Urban coffee that u tried is old one in brownish bag or new white & long bag? Old one i also dont like.

*

I plan to get a simple coffee roasting machine call quest M3, rm 5400, shipping fees 85 usd via EMS from taiwan. How much custom tax? GST? Can avoid those tax if i travel to taiwan & bring along check in flight?
Whats the comment on quest m3? Other better roaster at similar price range?

BN is planning to implement GST on coffee bean.. We r paying for the hole that 1MDB digged. Should put the one responsibility inside that hole instead

I was talking to some roasters in KL about the idea of "Car pooling" but in coffee world i call it "Beans pooling". the idea is to do something like "kickstarter" getting people to do group buys with any amount of roasted coffee beans with a deadline, then the roaster roast and send out the beans fresh to us coffee lovers. its like accumulating orders and then roast but with a cutoff time and deadline to meet, to avoid @sonny experience sweat.gif

Maybe can do this with special blend roast or something like that.

advantages for roasters is they already know the "demand" now the need to "supply" and gets to maximise the potential of their "expensive roasters" to reduce cost.

advantage for coffee fanatics, we get "special beans" on demand hopefully reduce cost.

Disadvantage do we have a huge enough community to do it?  laugh.gif

Well I'm just a caffeinated dreamer.

This is call subscription, already exist. Unlikey cheap coz need to count in postage fees & they also wana make profit. Unless u found a non profit making home roaster

Not exactly subscription model but a more unique modified model. and i think @ymeng understand what i'm saying.
yes ymeng. but you need a website to do it, to promote what ever blend you are planning to make for the month. here is the idea where i got from thailand which i think its good have a view of their website http://www.philscoffeecompany.com/COFFEE-POOL.php

you can do what you are capable and ofcoz at the same time maximising your roaster and also your ROI. have a thought of it!  rclxm9.gif  thumbup.gif

You see my post got a few customers want already! hahaha we want fresh beans and hopefully at a reasonable price if we can coffee pool together.  drool.gif  brows.gif

Becareful if u wana repacking branded roaster, coz u need their authorization if u wana resell it to public. U might end up receive legal letter. Haha. Just a friendly reminder.

*sigh!* The eternal struggle between Freshness vs Cost.... freshly roasted beans at high cost due to small quantities and frequent shipping/delivery. Go for larger quantities then can't utilise in time, not fresh.

One of the big reasons I started home roasting. Green beans last months (longer if stored well) and can roast as needed.

Only the neighbours think I'm insane, because sometimes roast on front porch, in the middle of the night!
*
the reason is u dint treat them ur coffee. if u treat them they will understand why u do it at middle of night. haha

+1 on the grinder. Regretfully even after a lot of research I could not find anything that lies outside the price/performance straight line relationship... essentially you get what you pay for, in terms of consistency in grind size. The outliers to an extent were the Feima 600N and some Breville especially when on deep discount.

For me, this is primarily focussing on espresso; other brew methods seem more forgiving and accept a greater range of grinders. Opinions?

Speaking of beans in the hopper, what is everyone's choice?
- load a week or more worth of beans and grind as needed, or
- weight whole beans then load the hopper with exactly one cup's worth
- something else?
*
What i do is use ikea small glass containers, it is called korken jar, i hv 6 of them, each size 7cm diameter x 7cm height, 4 oz. i measure weight of the bean n keep inside each container. I pour the bean into hopper only when i wana brew coffee. Im not at home, dont hv photo. I shared what i found on internet.Attached Image

They r small & cute. Looks nice to put them beside ur grinder or coffee machine

Any suggestion for a good beginner burr grinder? Seems baratza encore is the best for beginner but its super expensive in malaysia!
*
If ur budget is tight. Can look into Welhome grinder. I used to hv zd-16 (bought from taobao), cheap. But it is stepped adjustment for finess & small cornical burr. In the end u may end up upgrade to stepless grinder. I later upgraded to stepless mazzer Super jolly manual model (also bought from taobao)

Dear expert,
Can help to suggest a grinder for my pressurized espresso machine? Budget around RM500, newbie here

Thanks
*
Due to your limit budget, can survey welhome grinder to get bang for your buck.

Welhome WPM ZD-12 Conical Burr Coffee Grinder via Lazada
http://www.lazada.com.my/welhome-wpm-zd-12...r-20603238.html

U can also visit Dankoff coffee to survey, local retailer.

Cheapest is still taobao if u know how to buy it via sea freight.

Your comment is much unappreciated, comments for the sakes of count? I am asking for idea, be it I have done my homework or not.
Is those oversea has local warranty support? I found this delonghi KG89 which around 300-400. Any idea of this brand and spec?

Thanks for the suggestion above, will take a look
*
Dont buy KG89 for espresso. Haha. The grind fineness step is quite big & too coarse for espresso. I owned one b4, modified with washer to make it to grind finer but sold it coz it still cant meet the fineness step i want. It will choke if grind is too fine post modify

I owned welhome ZD-13 & used it for sometimes until upgrade to mazzer super jolly. Welhome grinder is step grinder. I dont know ur budget can get china stepless grinder or not. But welhome grinder is good enough for pressurized portafilter espresso machine until u upgrade to non pressurized or proper good espresso machine to meet the expectation of commercial type quality coffee drinks.

If u buy from dankoff, local retailer, price is more expensive, mayb under their company warranty. Im not sure. U need to check with them.
Usually, good review items rarely break down. Sometimes i dont even care about warranty coz the taobao price is twice more cheaper than retail price. I can afford to get another new one with no loss if it is really failed.

i got a problem with my oscar 1; only 2 holes in the steam wand is working - how to clean them? can the tip be unscrewed?
*
People say two holes r better than 4, better steaming power. Ur oscar u bought it new or 2nd hand? Thought possible previous owner modified it, block the holes. It can be unscrewed n removable
