Does anyone know any retailers who is selling wii at price similar to usa? or australia market? I notice local retailers are marking up pretty high. Over here in Malaysia is costing us about RM1800 just for the standard set while in Australia its only RM1200 max. Anyone doing bulk purchase?

Yes it's true.. The RM2xxx model would give you a stepdown and 1 game of your choice. The RM18xx model would just have the Wii console, plus the free bundled game Wii Sports.

Come to the Nintendo Subforum for more info..

Well, the way I see it, the Wii is selling very well these days.. and to get stock now is very limited.. 1 shop holds 2 Wiis, sold within a day or two. So the demand is quite high, and retailers would usually ask you to price fight with another person.

So it's really up to you if you wanna secure a Wii now with such a high price. If you can be a little patient, you can wait for the optimum pricing which is RM950-1200.. which would make your wallet happier.

Anyone doing bulk purchase? Looks like retailers in malaysia are taking too much advantage over the stocks availbility in Malaysia. Maybe we should have a bulk purchase and order it directly from usa or australia. Prolly we will be forking out at most rm1200.

Bulk orders will include shipping fees, insurance and probably lots of tax. Whos going to calculate all that?

The problem is, as of now, even Americans are having problems with securing a Wii. I haven't been reading up these days, but that was the case during the first shipment(launch) of the Wii.. Totally sold out. I think the second shipments also sold out.. Retailers in the states are having this problem too.

So if them Americans or Japanese people can't get ahold of enough units, why should we? tongue.gif Besides, we are part of the reason they can't fulfil orders there.

Nintendo is already doing a good job in achieving their 1-2 weeks difference between different regions launch, Dec 19-20 US launch, Dec 2-10 Euro/Aussie/JP launch.. Man, are they tired.

And in all seriousness, if you can get bulk directly from US, great. If not, wait patiently, the fun isn't going nowhere smile.gif

If the bulk purchase volume is there then it will make some sense doing a purchase directly from usa since our retailers are doing that too. we will do calculations later on when there about 10 purchases.

Cracking the Wii would be the quickest way of hurting Nintendo. Hopefully, like the GC before it, it'll take a long while to crack. That and periodic updates that brick modified machines will hopefully keep the Wii as an original games only machine biggrin.gif.

i think it is like a chicken and egg problem. piracy are ramping in asia because of high prices of games. if nintendo, sony and microsoft are able to manufacture games for asia region. probably it could lower game prices to as low as rm50-70 this would definitely reduce the demand for pirated games but for now we still live with pirated stuff because it is not affordable beyond everyone. original games cost in malaysia approximately rm210 and above while ppl in usa they purchasing usd50.

yup, the business model of videogames suck. sure all those companies love to come in to asia & other developing countries and develope a healthy white market for videogames. but if they subsidise game prices & set region locks to sell much cheaper asian versions, sure the consumers of the developed markets will compare & cry foul.

i guess subscription-based MMOG PC games are the future for asia and other developing countries.

Once again, gaming is not a necessity. It is not a requirement in life. If you can't afford it, you probably shouldn't pick up gaming. It is not an excuse to resort to piracy.

There is never a justification for piracy. With Sony and Microsoft losing money for every console they sell, the only way they can profit is through the games. I doubt they will make it any cheaper than it is now.

Games for the 360 (Asian) cost around RM160-RM190 while American games are more expensive because it is imported. Sony games will forever be expensive because it is region free.

I think the equation goes....... higher piracy, higher game prices to cope with low game sales.......... but who's willing to change over with prices for example PS2 pirated game RM5 vs PS2 original RM200

Don't blame the game companies, blame the government. Singaporeans can get original titles for around Sing $60. Even Thailand has MS software price-adjusted to their standard of living. I guess in Malaysia it is more important to waste money on a fruitless space program, then do anything useful for its citizens. Doesn't matter lah. As long as I can eat my nasi lemak and watch Sarah Tan on Astro, I don't mind having my ass rogered by the government wink.gif.

Then they should have Msian version like euro version and with 5 combined language.
LIKE IN Asia can have 5 languaged too and have BM, Thai, Indonesian, Language and im sure even if there are modded console the poor kwai loh cannot understand "Saya akan hapuskan kamu!!!"...hehehehe..so it stays in this region only for a meager RM50...which i can buy 2-3 titles every month....

So now they need to spend more to translate the game and yet charge cheaper? Haha, doubt so man.

Maybe if the government reduce the tax on these games. Hell, transfer all the tax to ciggies and alcohol. Games should be tax free! biggrin.gif

Look at it this way, the smokers and the drinkers are going to spend because they are kinda addicted to it. So, more tax = more revenue for the government.

And by transferring the game tax to alchohol and ciggies, cheaper games here means piracy is going to take a big hit. Which is good for the government as well, with all their Ops Helang tongue.gif

And if higher tax for smokes and drinks = lesser people drink and smoke, then its a healthier community in Malaysia. In the end, its all beneficial. tongue.gif

Now if only I can persuade someone in the Government to lobby for it.

its more than just chicken & eggs. its numbers - pure & simple. will an original market be self-sustianable in a small developing economy? i always wondered if the original gaming market in singapore/HK/TWN amounts to any meaningful revenue to justify localised asian versions. keep in mind these 3 city-states have developed consumer market.

when even uncle ho and his operators have to bulk-export as the local consumer market is insufficient for them, what does it says about us consumers? tongue.gif tongue.gif

no need to sell ori printed disc. give the disc/demo/downloads for free. charge pay per play via online subscription or points. me thinks we'll all be playing korean & china games legitimately for years to come.
